Can anyone recommend a good ad blocker, please? Don't mind paying for a really good one

I use NordVPN and turn on all its security stuff and haven't seen an ad for years on Mac or iPhone. Set it to Albania and you won't even get ads on YouTube.

Long term Wipr/Wipr2 user here. Very lightweight and unobtrusive, just gets the job done efficiently in the background. I only remember I have it when I use someone else's device and I'm reminded just how terrible the internet is without it 😂

I've never seen ads on YouTube, only on - so called - "smart TVs" and other people's smart phones using the standard browser...

Another vote for Ghostery. I like its simplicity. I've tried AdGuard, but found it overwhelming with all the settings and toggles. And if I remember correctly, it didn't even block ads right out of the box...some settings needed to be enabled within AdGuard first. (Not a big deal, but why aren't they enabled by default?)

Also, Ghostery blocked more content than AdGuard when I tested and compared the two here:

Another vote for Wipr 2. Install and forget kind of solution and the developer is pretty responsive too whenever any issue arises.
Apple has introduced URL filtering in the OS 26 releases wherein a content blocker can act at the network level and instruct the system on what to block and never has to see any traffic at all compared to how apps have to use a pseudo-VPN to accomplish it till now. And Wipr 2's developer is already on it and just waiting for Apple to resolve a certain bug halting it's release.
I do assume others 'might' start using it too.

Ublock origin lite is a pretty good option too, so is Adguard(especially if you're willing to fidget around with the settings.)

I like AdGuard Pro the most—for me, it blocks the most ads, trackers, and annoyances on the web. I can add my own block lists there—for example, to block YouTube shorts. It can also block at the DNS level, so even in applications and the system.

Then I like Wipr 2 for its simplicity, but it blocks less. Then Ublock Origin Lite for its undemanding nature.

If you use Safari, go with Adguard. Firefox, Brave, and Vivaldi have pretty good ad bockers built-in.

Or if you just want a light-weight browser with good ad blocker, I recommend a browser called Quiche Browser

Simply use Brave instead of the standard advertising browser.

[edit] You don't need to pay any optional things!
Brave has really grown on me. I actually end up using it more than Safari these days. I love how it “eats” the annoying and increasingly present Google login popup on all sorts of web sites.

I don’t have any ad blocker extension recommendations for OP, though. I use pihole at home and VPN home when I want ad blocking elsewhere. Makes a noticeable difference if I’m web browsing on a not-so-great cell signal.

I have Adblock-lean installed on my Linksys router that runs OpenWrt. Unfortunately it doesn't block Youtube ads.

I use 1Blocker when I'm not at home.
