I really can’t recommend 1Blocker enough. For me it transforms unusable websites, into ones I can actually get something out of. I can allow ads on the sites that I frequent so they will stick around, while blocking a lot of other nonsense like FB tracking. It has a VPN option that runs locally on your phone/ipad itself and stops any other apps from sending information back to snooping entities.

I use Wipr 2 and I've had it since it released 10 years ago. It's lightweight and works really well with very minimal site breakage. It's a single dev working on it, regularly updated and she's very responsive to any issues.

Adguard (free version) also works very well but I find it uses more battery and when updating the rules manually, it makes my phone hot so I don't recommend it.

I would try uBlock Origin Lite by Raymond Hill(https://apps.apple.com/us/app/ublock-origin-lite/id6745342698). I've used the original in Chrome since forever and it's the best there.

just got my iPhone 17 and am getting lots of ads on websites
Can anyone recommend a good ad blocker, please? Don't mind paying for a really good one
Use 1Blocker. It is the best AdBlocker you will ever use. The settings sync across your Apple devices, and it doesn't demand you start a free trial or start paying every time you try to use it.

I use 1Blocker for Safari and NextDNS for system side ad and tracker blocking. But uBlock Origin has been in the business for so long so I decided to give that a try and so far no issues.

DNS based blocking has no impact on the battery so I went with NextDNS since it can be used with custom filter lists like HaGeZi.

Having tried a handful of different ad blockers out, I’ll parrot what everyone else has already said and recommend Wipr 2. It’s worked flawlessly for me, cant recommend it enough

I've used a few and I like Wipr 2 the best. It's minimal (no settings/configuration), has a very reasonable one-time payment, and is a universal app for iPhone/iPad/Mac. Just enable it and forget it's there. Though if you want custom filters, you'll need one of the other content blockers.

Free System wide adblocker : DNSsecure

"DNSecure is a configuration tool of encrypted DNS for iOS/iPadOS. An encrypted DNS service you configure will be used system-wide."

This worked really well for me on my ipad air 2 before i sold it a few months ago .

I’ll second this. I can’t speak for the tracker blocker as I don’t use it, but for adblocking it’s great. I use it on 2 iPads, iPhone and Mac.

Used it since 2018, no idea what it costs these days. 1Blocker are still honouring my legacy grandfathered in price of £4.99 a year, I respect them for that. If they upped the price I’d still pay, but don’t tell them 🤫

AdGuard, but I paid for it.
I use AdGuard on iOS and Mac OS and also for extensions on browsers other than Safari. If you are using Safari then 1Blocker is also good but not free. Adblock Plus is good but costs $40 per year (there is a free version with a bit less functionlity) but works on all browsers. Wiper is good for Safari and not at all expensive. Brave is good if you want to go that route but their business model seems a bit suspect as it involves crypto. Brave also sells a built in VPN that is not as good as most stand alone VPNs that is $100 per year. That is as much as Express VPN. I almost forget--Privacy Badger from EFF to block trackers and it is free but EFF does accept donations.

I’ve always used AdGuard with no issues. But when i updated to iOS 26, some white boxes started showing up on websites that i use all the time that weren’t there before. So Apple has changed something on their end I think. I can manually block out the boxes, but that’s annoying ha.

I forgot to mention that AdGuard removes ads from YouTube in the browser (Safari).
Hell yeah it does. Been using YouTube in the browser for around 6 years now on my iPhones.
With a shortcut, you can even use Picture in Picture without being a US premium subscriber.

Have you tried Hush for cookie blocking before?
I haven’t used Hush, so can’t say anything about it. I’ve been using Ghostery on desktop and mobile for many years and haven’t had any reason to try something different.

  1. Adguard (free) si slow (check speedometer), but it is blocking ads in PWA
  2. ublock lite is fast, but it does not block ads in PWA
  3. Brave is fast, but it does not handle PWA, and it does not handle Apple Password keychain on mac (without an extension, a pin code, bla bla bla...)
So, after many years with adguard free, a few months with ublock, a week with Brave, I'm going back to Safari+AdguardFree, on Mac and Iphone
