I use Wiper2, but think it is having trouble with websites picking up it is an Adblocker lately. Reported the issues to Wiper and see if they take care of them quickly. Or maybe it is settings I need to change in Wiper2, but usually it is very simple.

I’d recommend everyone give WBlock a try! Developer is very active on Reddit, it just released and uses AdGuard’s filtering, the design of the app is lightweight and Liquid Glass for those who care, and it has been less problematic on select sites than Wipr has been.
I looked for wBlock in the iPhone App Store and could not locate it but it does seem to be in the Mac App Store. Is it available for iOS?

Try disabling Wipr Extra for just that website. The dev is pretty good at fixing broken websites and sometimes a force refresh of the database in Wipr will fix it as new rules get published but hasn't been auto-updated in the background yet.

Ghostery is excellent, I agree.
Ghostery has a conflict of interest because it is owned by Hubert Burda Media. They supposedly fixed a similar conflict back in 2017 when Evidon sold Ghostery to Cliqz, but Hubert Burda Media owns Cliqz.

Hubert Burda Media is one of the largest publishers in Europe with many digital publications that rely on digital advertising. Per Wikipedia, they own over 70 magazines, roughly 600 media products and "various mail order and service and marketing firms" across 19 countries.

How does Ghostery fit into such a business? Why does Hubert Burda Media want to own them?

I use AdGuard since years.

Blocks ads on YT (most important for me) and mostly on websites. Quite good.

Are there blockers in AppStore, who can block ads in Apps? No i guess?

I've been using Adblock Plus for a few years now with good results. The one I use is free but I think the offer a paid version too.

Was using 1Blocker until recently, noticed that 1Blocker seems to be not blocking ads well anymore (especially those Admiral Popups) and I started seeing website slow downs.
Switched to Wipr2 and it's like my Safari has been reborn. You can tell the difference between an app written well and one that seems to be in need of being rewritten. When I uninstalled 1Blocker I noticed it was taking up almost 800mb of space, yet Wipr 2 is only 12.3MB. So now I know why websites were slowing down, 1Blocker is bloated....

Same story here.

My safari was getting sluggish and I didn’t know why.. removed 1blocker to give wipr2 a chance, and now everything loads instantly.

Another vote for Ghostery. I like its simplicity. I've tried AdGuard, but found it overwhelming with all the settings and toggles. And if I remember correctly, it didn't even block ads right out of the box...some settings needed to be enabled within AdGuard first. (Not a big deal, but why aren't they enabled by default?)

Also, Ghostery blocked more content than AdGuard when I tested and compared the two here:

Just ran your test with 1 Blocker and passed with flying colours at 100%. 👌

Hmm... I feel no difference speedwise. I like 1Blocker better because I can manage and whitelist whatever I want. For Wipr2 they manage fixed lists. I can`t check what they include and also I can`t add exceptions.

Does not Ghostery track you itself, as Safari asks you for permission to allow Ghostery to monitor your web traffic?
1Blocker does this as well if you enable scripts. The main difference here is that Ghostery has all its features under one toggle, and as a result, the warning always displays; 1Blocker split things up into multiple toggles, and the warning only displays if that specific feature is enabled.

This prompt doesn't necessarily mean it's tracking you. It needs to be able to access the webpage code in order to do stuff, such as removing awkward spacing and boxes where ads would have been, and other advanced filtering. So if sensitive information is displaying on the page, they could see it. It's just a matter of whether you trust the developer or not to allow it.

Thanks for the explanation!

After testing a few, ended up with Wipr2 as well, very sleek! 👍 If I had to choose a free one, I would go with 1Blocker, as a maxed-up wBlock reached 97/100% of the turtlecute test:

https://adblock.turtlecute.org

For a context: I have been using a free version of AdGuard for years, but lately started having issues with a web-based invoice generating software on my iPad at work, but it was still working fine on my iPhone at the same time. So I figured out that the only difference between the two devices was in the AdGuard settings. Once I turned the AdGuard off on the iPad to test, the issue disappeared. Sure enough, I could have adjusted AdGuard settings to less aggressive ones, but figured I could then start having issues with other sites.

Thank you everyone for your suggestions!

One thing I noticed running Wipr 2 is it does score lower on speedometer 3.1. 51 vs 59 without it and it does break a couple sites, overall I do like it though

Setup Next DNS free account, install NextDNS app and link it to your online account.

You can use it on MacOS and on iPad iOS. NextDNS also works on all routers for your home network.

It's free to use and blocks ads on all apps and on all websites. Many ad blocking filters to chose from.
