Ooh, I like it. It has been awhile since I've read it, much less heard it in use.

How about words that you'd like to go out of fashion?

Like "hella".
 I'll just... walk away now.

I'm still waiting for someone to say, "coolio." :D

One of my favorite-sounding words is 'ointment'.

Whoa, it looks kind of weird written out like that too :)

I vote for smite as well, that's another good one. I'm a bit of a word snob, so I'll contribute: bacchanal (for the weekends) and apotheosis (for the work week).

For those who are really over the top, check out a book by Eugene Erlich titled: The Highly Selective Dictionary for the Extraordinarily Literate, which would be a sublime example of work in this thread ;).

Does 'tis count?? :D

And I love smite too.
Haha those are two of my favorites. I can't think of any other ones I haven't already seen posted but if I do, I'll be sure to come back and enlighten you all.

I think I may buy this book. It looks fascinating (especially since my thesis concerns sociolinguistics).

As for words, I enjoy stalwart, pragmatic, jovial, repugnant, and circuitous.

I know that esoteric is already in the thread, but it is at the near top of my list.

Aw, I love English.
