Is that Aussie? Don't tell me it's got some, err, different connotations...

No, it didn't mean anything to me, until I UrbanDictionary'd it. I figured it probably meant vomiting. :D But this morning, maybe that's for the Adobe / Macromedia thread.

Anjaki, sorry that you feel you must leave. Take it from me, based on my experience, MR has to be the easiest going forums around. They let lots of things slide, and others they don't. All in all they let us be us.

I have to say that the posts were deleted before I read the thread, so I don't have a full perspective, but my question would be, is the issue the deletion of (almost universally agreed) spamming posts, i.e. disagreeing with moderators judgment, or that it takes 500 posts to get an avatar?

Seems to me that folks place an awful lot of stock in the status of having an avatar. As I posted in the other thread, people seem to put more thought into their avatar than they do their posts sometimes. Its just a picture... what you have to say is far more important IMHO. If you are just wanting the 500 post rule changed, that isn't going to happen I don't think. I for one, think it is a good rule. It weeds out those who just want to have a 'tar. If you have a problem with moderation, the way to handle it is not in the open forum, but through PMs with the appropriate leadership, i.e. arn, mudbug, Dr. Q, Mr. Anderson, et. al. If your problem is specific to E, then PM one of the others and copy him in.

Inciting a rebellion within the ranks will most likely do two things, (1) bring down the wrath of most of the membership, because they have found that in spite of its faults(?), this is the best place to be, and they are protective of their oasis on the 'net and (2) bring down the wrath of the mods, and a temporary ban, with an ultimate ban the next step. We all seen it happen over and over.

I would cancel my membership immediately, if I could find the button, but in your infinite wisdom you appear to have forgotten one, or at least I can't find it, so I hereby request that the rule quoted by Mitthrawnuruodo:

".......This will get your account banned -- and get your IP banned from the forums and site where you won't even be able to load the site."

be implemented, for I no longer wish to be associated with this website.

No need to cancel your membership or get banned. If you find value here (and you obviously did at one time), then stay and contribute, work through the issues and deal with them. In no time at all, as you contribute, you will have a coveted 'tar. The best way is to find a thread or create one that you are passionate about, and contribute/respond to it (them) with a lot of thought.

If you don't find value any more, then just don't log on any more. Simple. We hope you stay and contribute. We value everyone. But if not, then don't try to stir up emotional ill will. This is a family, and we take exception to that.

Like any relationship, it takes work. I wouldn't expect you to end other relationships this quickly over such matters. If you can put this behind you, I think you can move on and find this to be a meaningful place for you.

For my part, I don't get to spend near enough time here any more, and I miss it. Sorry you don't find the same value.

Christ, I've had stuff deleted, and I didn't think it was fair, but guess what?

IT ISN'T MY SITE.

Get over it.

There are lots of free message board services if you want to start your own and be commander in chief.

lol, it's not our "infinite wisdom", perhaps you'd like to take this up with the people who write vBulletin. Maybe you can go in to one at them, and start attacking their programmers.

The more I read this the more I can't believe what I am seeing. All this over nothing.

This is getting really silly - can't a mod just lock this thread and if anjaki decides he wants to come back and start a campaign to change the 'tar rules, he can do so
I'd love to...but, then I'd probably be accused of trying to silence critics

heheheh proberly....but this is just tooooooo silly please stop.

anjaki if you are so upset about the 'tar' rules well take it up with all the mods and see, but if it does ot change well then it does not change then ;)

I have not been here for a year yet but it is a good forum and has been fair to me

4 posts? This entire thread is over 4 deleted posts? Everytime I (jokingly!!!!!!!) mention killing a hobo with a hammer, it gets deleted. How long before this one goes? Time to stiffen your 'resolve' and get on with it.

Ok,

I think there has been a bit of overreaction on both sides.

Let's let this one die down.

Does the phrase "storm in a teacup" mean anything to anyone outside of the UK? ;) :D

I think the balance of moderation and free-expression is well guarded here at MR, I was constantly surprised by what was allowed when I was a lowly member, especially in the Community Forum, and now I'm a mod, I'd like to think I support that balance.

Some members are always going to disagree with some of the decisions made by mods but thats OK, we're charged with keeping the peace and keeping it friendly (where possible). I think e did what we would all have done, it's no biggie.

It's a shame anjaki feels he has to leave the site, but nothing's going to change because of it.

Thanks for the intelligent comments folks, this is over now. :)
