Forget this, GoodPlayer is not a converter at all. It is a player.

GoodPlayer helps convert files like AVI, Xvid, Divx, WMV ,MKV, RM, and RMVB into files that are compatible with the iOS Platform. Once converted, enjoy your favorite movies directly on your device and enjoy features like optional subtitles and forwarding through multiple audio tracks. If using an iPhone or iPad, GoodPlayer supports TV Out/GA, allowing you to enjoy your favorite movies and files on the big screen.

There are some issues on the native background playback. We are working on it. As for AirPlay background playback, we still do not consider it. However , once native background playback is okay, AirPlay background playback should be okay as well.

Would it be possible to add support for background AirPlay playback of MP4/M4V videos? Coming from Buzz Player - I was surprised AirPlay background playback isn't supported by GoodPlayer.. Buzz has supported it for a while..

Lack of this feature is a show stopper for using this app for me.

OK. Just saying - some of your competitors (Buzz Player HD being one) have no issues supporting background AirPlay playback.. limited to "native" formats of course.

I am hoping you will get this solved soon, as I love your app other than lack of this feature.

Thanks. We knew this issue. Background playback has a high priority for us.

USB mode in Goodplayer 3.x

Are there any plans to add USB mode to Goodplayer 3.x?
So we don't need to use HTTP or FTP mode to copy files from PC to IOS device?

Thx

What do you mean by "USB mode"? thx
If you mean iTunes File Sharing , it is in GoodPlayer from the first 1.0 version. iTunes File Sharing can copy files to GoodPlayer over USB. Is it what you need?

GoodPlayer on iPad 1

I currently have an iPad 2 and GoodPlayer runs just fine on it. I am considering buying an iPad 1 for my daughter and was wondering how would the GoodPlayer performance be on it? Can it play all the videos as smooth as iPad 2? Thanks!!

Totally dependant on the video codecs and resolutions used but expect SD AVI content to play back fine.

Thanks! Most of the movies are in AVI only but some are in MKV and MP4 formats too and some of these are in 720p resolution.

Please do not buy iPad 1 if you care about video playback performance.
The difference is huge. iPad 2 is much more powerful than iPad 1 on video playback.

Thx. I mean the ability to simply copy/delete files/folders from the ISO device in Windows Explorer; similar to putting goodplayer in FTP server mode, & copying files/folders to it; but obviously, FTP server goes through Wifi, which is much slower than copying through the cable.
Itunes files sharing is not a good solution. First you can't copy folders or create folders within folders. 2nd, you can't connect a friend's ios device to your itunes to copy movies to his/her goodplayer.

Any thoughts?

A 2nd unrelated question: Are there any plans to enable tv-out with the ipod plugin enabled on the ipad 2? to enable hardware acceleration on 1080p mp4 movies outputted to the TV?

Thx.

GoodPlayer 3.3 released
http://itunes.apple.com/us/app/goodplayer/id416756729?mt=8

What's new in 3.3 version:
1 Add more background options (Settings->UI->Color Scheme)
2 Increase FTP streaming buffer size
3 Add file size and time information in file manger
4 Add "Email as attachment" feature in file manger, for files under 15MB
5 Fix bottom file selection issue
6 FTP folder playlist now supports the sub-folders recursively
7 WebDAV client now supports folder playback, click the right blue
icon of the WebDAV folder, if there are files available for GoodPlayer
playback, a M3U playlist will be created automatically. Please note:
WebDAV folder playlist now supports the sub-folders recursively
8 Skip the password-protected sub-folders for folder playback

I do not know if the "USB mode" you described here is possible for official API. We know some jailbroken app can do this. Do you know any App Store app can do this?

As for iPod plugin tv-out issue, it is a bug. We will try to fix it.

Goodplayer not finding files

Hi

Great app, but it only seems to detect some of the files on wdmybookworld using the ipad app and there seems to be no way to refresh this to search for new additions...any tips?

I could not understand well what you mean. Is there any other details?
By wdmybookworld, do you use DLNA or other server on it?

I have this same NAS. What files is it not finding? Type and size? I can see if I can replicate the issue.

Well Mr. hustmobile, it seems that you answer swiftly here so I try this one out.
I'm on an iPad 1. I have the hdmi out converter from apple and it is working great with apple's movie app on my big screen.

but ...

no avi, no mkv and so on.

Your app looks promising as it states that hdmi out to TV is supported (a feature that is not supported in many videoplayers for iPad)

So my question is:
does it say what it does? Does it plays my avi and mkv movies on my television through the hdmi plug thing that works with apple's movie app?
I don't mind coughing up a few bucks for an app that plays my avi files or mkv files on a big screen (with audio off course), but I don't want to buy the app if tv through hdmi is not possible with iPad 1. It's the TV-hdmi that is my sell or no sell.

thank you for your answer.

cheers

Bart

I'm using it as a dlna and have all my videos in the shared videos file, seperate folders one for tv and one for movie, the tv having further show subfolders within, it fines my book world, videos, videos by folder, tv, but as an example, I have all of californication stored on the my book world, my pc can see this folder, file browser on the ipad can, but good player cant, and there's a few others that follow suit, any advice?

1.We have tested HDMI connection with GoodPlayer, and it was okay.
2. For iPad 1 with HDMI, only video can be transfered to TV, no audio. iPad 2 can transfer both video and audio to TV with HDMI on GoodPlayer

Sorry, we do not have "my book world" for DLNA testing, so we have no idea here.
The only suggestion : reboot both your DLNA server and iPhone/iPad then try again.

hustmobile,

I bought GoodPlayer for my iPad (original) and attempted to play an MKV (H.264 with 5.1 AC3), but it stutters too much to be watchable. Is the original iPad not powerful enough to handle this file?

For reference, here is the file's details:

Display resolution: 716 x 540 (pixels)

Thanks for your help!

For the file information you listed, the iPad 1 maybe could not play it smoothly. It actually depends on other detailed video encoding parameter.
Please reboot the iPad 1 and test again. If after one reboot, iPad 1 can not play it smoothly, then it is not powerful enough to play it.
iPad 2 has no problem to play this file.

Thank you very much for your answer. Too bad it does not play audio on ipad 1. I will have to wait untill i upgrade to ipad 3.

GoodPlayer 3.4 released.

1. For iPad 2 and future multi core iOS devices, add an option to
disable multi core decoding. GoodPlayer->Settings->Multi Core
Decoding. The default is on. When it is on, some video decoding will
use multi core concurrently to improve the performance greatly. When
it is off, all the decoding only uses single core to get more
stability. Please note that it is recommended to set it to on. Only
for those media files that have issue with multi core decoding, set it
to off.
Also please note that this setting is only for iPad 2 and future multi
core iOS devices. For single core iOS device such as iPhone 4, this
setting is invisible.
2. Support .asx file format
3. Decrease on-screen-display disappear time to 5 seconds
4. UPnP/DLNA client now supports folder playback, click the right blue
icon of the UPnP/DLNA folder, a pop up menu will come out.
5. SMB/CIFS/WebDAV/FTP/UPnP/DLNA client now supports folder download,
click the right blue icon of the SMB/CIFS/WebDAV/FTP/UPnP/DLNA folder,
a pop up menu will come out.
6. Improve the WebDAV support. Fix the user/password issue. And fix
the file/folder name with space issue.
7. File manager displays the file size correctly when it is over 4GB
8. Downloader and built-in browser supports HTTP Basic Authentication
