Thanks. It is a quick question, however, there is no short answer to it.
It should has something to do with the access right. The SMB share of TC/Air Por Extrem looks a little weird in our testing.
Here we forwards a user feedback and our reply.
=====user feedback========
I've got a Time Capsule (firmware 7.6.1) with an external USB drive
that is shared, and "Secure Shared Disks" is set to "With Time Capsule
password". Guest Access is not allowed. The external drive has no
spaces in its name (FreeAgent_1.5TB), nor does the video folder
(Video).
When I open GoodPlayer, I tap the lower-right icon for client setup,
and then "SMB/CIFS Client", and then I can see two options: one is my
Macbook, the other is the name of my Time Capsule (in this case
Tartarus).
If I simply tap on Tartarus, I see a "Shared Folders" screen, with no
items. If I instead click the arrow next to Tartarus, I see the IP
(currently 10.0.1.1), username, and password fields.
I have tried the following two combinations, and again saw no items:
10.0.1.1
[blank]
[Time Capsule password]
10.0.1.1/FreeAgent_1.5TB
[blank]
[Time Capsule password]
After changing the "Secured Shared Disks" to "With accounts" (a
setting I'd prefer to avoid), setting an Airport Disk username and
password, I tapped the arrow next to Tartarus, and tried the
following:
10.0.1.1
[Airport Disk username]
[Airport Disk password]
Now, if I tap on Tartarus, I see the following:
Data
[Airport Disk username]
FreeAgent_1.5TB
Progress! However, I don't want to see the Data directory, since
that's where all my Time Machine backups are, and the other two
directories are empty.
Finally, I try switching Airport Disks Guest Access from "Not Allowed"
to "Read Only" (I REALLY DO NOT WANT TO DO THIS), and try the
following:
10.0.1.1
[blank]
[blank]
Now I can see:
Data
FreeAgent_1.5TB
And I can see the folders inside FreeAgent_1.5TB, but once I tap my
Video folder, I get an empty list again! So then I try:
10.0.1.1/FreeAgent_1.5TB/Video
[blank]
[blank]
Which still only lists:
Data
FreeAgent_1.5TB
I should again mention that I REALLY don't want to allow guests to
even read that drive. HELP!
Hi,
Thanks.
Please try this:
10.0.1.1/FreeAgent_1.5TB
[Airport Disk username]
[Airport Disk password]
So you can turn off guest access and do not see the Data folder.
Thanks for the reply, but I'm still not able to get it to work -
here's some specific tests and their results. One weird thing I
discovered is when editing the discovered SMB shares.
TEST 1
Creating a new SMB entry in GoodPlayer with Time Capsule password
--------------------------------------------------------------------
Time Capsule settings:
Secure Shared Disks: With Time Capsule password
Guest Access: Not allowed
GoodPlayer settings:
IP Address: 10.0.1.1/FreeAgent_1.5TB
User Name: [blank]
Password: [Time Capsule password]
RESULT:
No folders are displayed. Examining the setting for this SMB
share shows that the IP Address field remains intact and includes the
path.
TEST 2
Creating a new SMB entry in GoodPlayer with Airport Disk account and
password (not just Airport Disk password)
--------------------------------------------------------------------
Time Capsule settings:
Secure Shared Disks: With accounts
Guest Access: Not allowed
GoodPlayer settings:
IP Address: 10.0.1.1/FreeAgent_1.5TB
User Name: [Airport Disk username]
Password: [Airport Disk password]
RESULT:
No folders are displayed. Examining the setting for this SMB
share shows that the IP Address field remains intact and includes the
path.
TEST 3
Editing the Tartarus (discovered SMB share) entry in GoodPlayer with
Time Capsule password
--------------------------------------------------------------------
Time Capsule settings:
Secure Shared Disks: With Time Capsule password
Guest Access: Not allowed
GoodPlayer settings:
IP Address: 10.0.1.1/FreeAgent_1.5TB
User Name: [blank]
Password: [Time Capsule password]
RESULT:
No folders are displayed. Examining the setting for Tartarus
shows that the IP Address field has reverted to 10.0.1.1, and does not
include the path.
TEST 5
Editing the Tartarus (discovered SMB share) entry in GoodPlayer with
Airport Disk account and password (not just Airport Disk password)
--------------------------------------------------------------------
Time Capsule settings:
Secure Shared Disks: With accounts
Guest Access: Not allowed
GoodPlayer settings:
IP Address: 10.0.1.1/FreeAgent_1.5TB
User Name: [Airport Disk username]
Password: [Airport Disk password]
RESULT:
Folders displayed are Data, [Airport Disk username], and
FreeAgent_1.5TB. Navigating into any of these folders results in a
blank list. Examining the setting for Tartarus shows that the IP
Address field has reverted to 10.0.1.1, and does not include the path.

=====our reply===========
Just tested with the AirPort Extreme here, AirPort Extreme file
sharing should be similar to the Time Capsule.
1. For the weird thing you observed "Examining the setting for
Tartarus shows that the IP Address field has reverted to 10.0.1.1, and
does not include the path.", it is by design and expected.
When you want to add the folder information to the smb sharing, please
use the "+" plus button instead. So you can save the folder
information there. What you edited now is an auto-discovered share,
the folder information cannot be save here.
2. For the sharing part , AirPort Extreme is weird, the test result
is just similar to your test.
For this case , User Name: [Airport Disk username] Password:
[Airport Disk password], the blank folder looks expected results too.
Here Apple seems meaning that you can upload and show only the files
this user uploaded. So for existed files, this new user have no access
right. Weird enough.
3. For this case , User Name: [blank] Password: [Time Capsule
password], the disk password or device password looks not here at all,
the user can login anonymous anyway. Weird enough again.
So it looks there is no way to fulfill your requirement, unless
AirPort Extreme file sharing is different with Time Capsule file
sharing.
On our AirPort Extreme (firmware 7.6.1), we could not find Guest
Access setting at all.

Quick question regarding SMB.
I have a hard drive attached to my Time Capsule. I am able to play movies using AFP from a jail broken ATV2 and from XBMC. I have enabled SMB in my network settings, so when I launch GoodPlayer, it finds it in my list of servers. It is able to find a couple of movies I have on my built in TC hard drive and it finds my other external drive, but when I open the folder, it shows up as being empty? Am I missing something? Because it works with the built in HDD...
Thanks in advance!
