Thank you. Please do check this out. Turning off harware decoding fixes subtitles, but the quali is COMPLETELY different.
It is much, much better with HW. THANKS

Turn off the "Hardware Decoding", the subtitle will be different.
However, this will introduce performance loss for mp4 playback.
We will check this issue.

For this subtitle issue, we just checked it. And we could not reproduce the issue here. Please give us some details, such as screenshot. Our email address: service@hustmobile.com

hustmobile, what is the difference b/w Goodplayer and Powerplayer?

They seem the same to me, and as a long time user of Goodplayer, it's a bit confusing to figure out which is better. I'd like to be able to play hardware accelerated 1080 files on goodplayer - but only powerplayer does that? Is powerplayer a better version of goodplayer?

no, if they're mov / mp4 / m4v files, both players.

EDIT: soryr, I was wrong, as the HUST Mobile folks have stated just below me, PowerPlayer is not HW accelerated yet for mov / mp4 / m4v file playback.

Here are some differences between GoodPlayer and PowerPlayer:
1 the MKV/avi/ts/flv/f4v H.264 Hardware decoding is only for PowerPlayer, if your main purpose is high definition H.264 playback, PowerPlayer should be better.
2 mov/mp4/m4v is special, GoodPlayer can use MP4 hardware decoding to play them. And PowerPlayer will add mp4 hardware decoding mode in the future. In the long run, mov/mp4/m4v support is the same for both apps.
3 GoodPlayer is good at the streaming features, if your main purpose is all kinds of streaming features, GoodPlayer is better.
4 In the next 1.2 version, PowerPlayer can support HTTP/RTSP/MMSH streaming, it also will support DLNA/UPnP client in 1.2 version.
5 For other streaming such as SMB/FTP/SFTP , PowerPlayer cannot support them. PowerPlayer also cannot support WebDAV streaming, although it is HTTP streaming, but the auth part of WebDAV gives PowerPlayer trouble.
6 PowerPlayer will support Hi10P 10-bit H.264 in 1.2 version. GoodPlayer cannot support Hi10P correctly now.
7 For HTTP streaming, PowerPlayer supports H.264 hardware decoding too.
8 For Hight Quality Mode, PowerPlayer supports high quality RMVB/RealVideo too. GoodPlayer cannot support high quality RMVB/RealVideo
9 In 1.2 version, PowerPlayer supports multi core decoding for RMVB/RealVideo. GoodPlayer can only use single core decoding for RMVB/RealVideo

In short, PowerPlayer is good at H.264 related video playback, especially mkv/avi/flv/f4v/ts/tp. GoodPlayer is good at streaming. If you are happy at GoodPlayer now, just stay with it. If you want better mkv/avi/flv/f4v/ts/tp H.264 video playback, you can try PowerPlayer.

Here are PowerPlayer 1.2 update logs

1. Retina Display support for video output added, this improved the
video quality for iPhone 4, iPhone 4S and new iPad
2. Performance improved
3. High Quality Mode added for software decoding, please note that
H.264 Hardware Decoding does not use this setting, H.264 Hardware
Decoding will only use high quality mode. The default is off. Please
only turn on it when the iOS device has enough processing power, such
as iPad 2/new iPad playing a standard definition media file
4. "H.264 Hardware Decoding" setting added, the default is on. When it
is off, the app will use software H.264 decoding instead.
5. Hi10P(High 10 Profile, 10-bit H.264/AVC) supported, please note
H.264 Hardware Decoding does not support Hi10P. So the "H.264 Hardware
Decoding" setting needs to be turn off for Hi10P playback. Only
software H.264 decoder supports Hi10P.
6. The .gsm file format supported
7. File manger added. In main view or file listing view, in the right
of search input field, click the "Edit", it will go into file manager
mode. File manger supports folder creation/password
protection/delete, files copy/move/delete, and "Open in" by other
apps from PowerPlayer
8. HTTP streaming supported. HTTP streaming supports H.264 Hardware Decoding
9. Built-in Downloader & Browser added
10. UPnP/DLNA Client added, since UPnP/DLNA Client uses HTTP
streaming, so it supports H.264 Hardware Decoding too
11. Music playback improved
12. TV out/VGA out supported , HDMI TV-out and Video Mirroring
supported, it is for iPad & iPhone 4 & iPod Touch 4 only.
13. TV-Out resolution setting added, from 640*480 to 1920*1080
14. Multi Core Decoding for software decoder added, such as MPEG4,
RealVideo(RM/RMVB) and software H.264 decoder. This setting will only
be available for iPad 2/new iPad/iPhone 4S and future multi core iOS
devices. The default is on. When it is on, some video decoding will
use multi core concurrently to improve the performance greatly. When
it is off, all the decoding only uses single core to get more
stability. Please note that it is recommended to set it to on. Only
for those media files that have issue with multi core decoding, set it
to off.

GoodPlayer 5.3 released

1 Retina Display support for video output added, this improved the
video quality for iPhone 4, iPhone 4S and new iPad
2 Video quality improved. This improvement is for all supported iOS devices
3 Music playback improved. For MP3/M4A local playback and HTTP
streaming, the meta information such as title/artist/album is
supported. The album artwork and lyrics are also supported. Click on
the album artwork to get the lyrics. All the meta information needs to
be in UTF-16 encoding(it is the encoding that iTunes supports). And
all the meta information needs to be embedded in MP3/M4A.
4 Finnish localization improved, thanks to Patrik again
5 FTP client supports passive and active mode selection, the default
is passive mode. Turn off the "Passive Mode", it becomes active mode
6 FTP client adds Shift-JIS encoding
7 Hardware Decoding improved
8 AirPlay support improved

Besides this new decoder, the new Player will use totally different architetture under the hood too. It is a total new app.
We hope the new player app can fix some other issues in GoodPlayer too.
When the new app is out, the GoodPlayer users should have a higher priority to get the free promo code. However, since there are so many GoodPlayer users, there is no promise every GoodPlayer user can get a free promo code.

OK, so I see the new PowerPlayer app is out and I see no free promo code being offered. How do we get it? I am now remuxing all my MKVs to MP4s because GoodPlayer just can't play them well enough. And forget 1080p MKVs. A real pain believe me but my only choice. I'm hoping this new app performs better on these. Can I get a free promo code or just exchange GoodPlayer for PowerPlayer? I mostly use the built-in iPad Video app now because it performs slightly better on MP4s.

Better than GoodPlayer in HW decoding mode? How come? Both play back MP4 videos equally fast (I've benchmarked this with a special 60p test video)

60p??? That's no contest. I'm talking about 1080p. I've had fewer problems with Video app, including audio sync problems.

foobaz, please check email for code.

For 60p, Menneisyys2 should mean 1080P 60fps testing here. It is kind of typo.

Generally , when PowerPlayer upgrades to a newer version, we will release some codes on http://iphoneapp-promocodes.com/appinfo-3351.html (it is out of code now). The next 1.2 version is near, if you are interested in PowerPlayer, access this site when 1.2 version is out.

For MP4 playback performance, MP4 hardware decoding, iPod plugin and Video app should have very similar (or near same) performance. All these 3 implementations are from Apple itself.

Mybook Live

First time poster, and apologies if this has been covered already but this thread is pretty long.

Downloaded Goodplayer last night after reading good reviews and encountered the following issues.

1. My WD Mybook Live - Twonky Server, appears in ther upnp list sometimes but not every time (Xbox 360 always sees it in the server list). Is there a setting I can tweak to fix this.

2. When this does appear in the list and it is selected, I get a blank screen without any folders to be able to navigate through.

media:connect can see these folders but it's a bit clunky with having to also have flex player and good player seems to be most people favourite so hoping to use this instead.

Any suggestions.

Gear list,

WD Mybook Live, 2TB - Firmware up to date
New IPad (3) - iOS all up to date

Thanks.

Thanks.
For issue #1, there is a tweak, in the GoodPlayer DLNA client, when the Twonky server appears, use the right blue arrow to find its "DLNA URL" , copy the "DLNA URL", then in the DLNA client, add a new item by press the bottom left "+" button.

For issue #2, we do not know why. We have tested with some Twonky server on the Mac. It work on our testing. However, the Twonky server version will be different with the one on WD Mybook Live

Much appreciated. Followed the advice below and now seems to consistently pick up the server and folders are shown.

Playback of MKV file was superb.

Money now well spent.

Subtitles

Just curious if it's possible to add a feature where while in the app to find, download and and use subtitles. So basically your app opens a website that hosts subtitles, find it, unzip it and use it. (I think Cinxplayer does this)

Also a way to change how you view content would be nice. I was scrolling through my movies and kept scrolling and scrolling. I think it would be nice to have the app download box art for movies and tv shows.

I know all this is kind of a tall order and understand if they aren't implemented. Goodplayer is a great app to watch my videos from my routers hard drive.

Keep up the good work!

1 For "app opens a website that hosts subtitles, find it, unzip it and use it.", GoodPlayer already supports it. Please note only zip is supported, rar is not supported now.
If you mean downloading the subtitle automatically from opensubtitle sites, it is on our to-do list.

2 for box art downloading, we do not know a suitable web to download such information. If you have some suggestions, please let us know

Hello, I'va got a question. I have an iPhone 4 with iOS 5.1 and when I try to play SD avi movies in Goodplayer over WiFI from my NAS, there is a little lag on video. Just little. When I dowload the file to Goodplayer and playing it locally, there is no lag. Why is this happening? I have a N-standard router, NAS is powerful and video bitrates are not so high. Why is this happening?

Thanks for helping me!

If you use DLNA server, please check if the DLNA server re-encode the file. As you said, this issue should not happen otherwise.

For SMB streaming, it should not happen. So we do not know why.
Please restart the iDevice and SMB server, then test again.
If it still exists, please use Audio Delay feature to fix it.

I forgot to mention tham I'm using the SMB (Samba) protocol.

I’m using GoodPlayer Version 5.4 to playback MP4 music videos that are located on the hard drive of a Seagate GoFlex Satellite, to my various iPod/iPad units (iPod Touch, iPad 1, 2,& 3). The GoFlex Satellite portable device creates its own Wi-Fi network using UPnP/DLNA . There are over 600 music videos (all in one folder), some that are standard definition, and some that are high definition. They are all iPod/iPad compliant H.264 MP4 videos that use AAC audio, and playback well if I use the native iPod/iPad app’s. The GoodPlayer app will playback these videos well from the playlist it creates for about 20~30 minutes than the app crashes (closes) when starting another music video. This may be the fault of the GoFlex Satellite unit, as it has its own issues like taking about 20 minutes to re-index the files (videos, mp3 music) that are stored on it, when you first turn it on. When I use the GoFlex Media app however it does not crash like the GoodPlayer app does after 20~30 minutes, and I notice that it is not accessing the GoFlex’s hard drive all the while the video is playing like GoodPlayer does, it is only buffering it at the start of the videos playback. I would use the GoFlex Media app, but I like the advanced features of GoodPlayer, like seamless playback, shuffle, and the fact that I can see that the developers of GoodPlayer are more interested in updating their software than a big corporation like Seagate sees fit to do so. While I’m at it typing this overly long post, I may as well mention some improvements I’d like to see in GoodPlayer. I’d like to have the ability to create an m3u video playlist on my computer and use it with GoodPlayer. Another one is that on my iPad 2 & 3 the HD music videos playback smoothly when using a Goodplayer created playlist. However on my iPod Touch & iPad 1, they do not playback smoothly. If I select the individual video in the Folders view, and then select “Play by iPod Plugin”, the same video will playback smoothly. I would like to have the option to “Play by iPod Plugin” when using a Goodplayer created playlist. Well if you’ve read this far I’d like to thank you, and let you know I’m open to any suggestions anyone has to all of the above.

Thanks for the feedback.
For this case, it should be the software decoding is not powerful enough for your mp4 playlist playback.
For GoodPlayer folder playlist playback, only software decoding is used. We will check if we can improve on this. For iPod plugin ,it can only play one file at one time.

For your goflex Dlna case, PowerPlayer(another app by us) should be better. It supports Dlna folder playback with h.264 hardware decoding. Please contact powerplayer@hustmobile.com for a PowerPlayer free promo code.

Thank you hustmobile for your reply, it explains my problems with GoodPlayer. Also thank you for your offer for a PowerPlayer free promo code, I will be contacting you shortly!

GoodPlayer 5.4 released,
http://itunes.apple.com/us/app/goodplayer/id416756729?mt=8

What's New in Version 5.4
1. FTP client improved, fixes the issue in 5.3 update
2. German localization improved, thanks to Lucas Kundigraber again
3. “Retina Display” setting added, the default is on. When the processing power is not enough (such as iPhone 4 to play some files), you can turn off this setting to save some processing power. The Retina Display feature will need extra processing power
4. Adds a "Maximum Resolution" option for "TV-Out Resolution" setting, this item will use the maximum available device resolution. For "TV-Out Resolution", the "Default" setting will use the minimum available device resolution
5. Adds a "iPod Fullscreen" setting for iPod plugin playback, the default is off. When it is off, iPod plugin playback will use fit to fullscreen. When it is on, iPod plugin playback will use fill to fullscreen
