The problem isn't necessary the village idiots, it's more the fact our lives aren't getting better. We're becoming isolated to those that are physically around us. The world doesn't need AI, or another web based app or API, we need to get our heads out of our asses and come together.
Exactly this is why I always get mad when people are like Why didn't you use Google?. Because maybe they wanted to "talk" to actual people with experiences and stories beyond just the answer.

If indeed Google summons a great Ai and incorporate it into google assistant and in the Android system like Microsoft wants to do with Office and Windows, then Apple can as well become a car company and leave the operating systems for those who are serious about ‘em.

Who'd have thought that the most fantastical aspect of Star Trek wasn't the natural conversational ability of the ship's computer, but the fact that the computer didn't misunderstand a single word of anyone's inquiry.
“Computer, launch photon torpedos!”

“Sorry, you don’t seem to have an app with that name installed. Here’s what I found in the ship’s library about ‘proton tornados’.”

Feels like we're getting closer and closer to the kind of "conversation" characters on Star Trek would have with their ship's computer. Which is cool as a Sci-Fi nerd, but given that some of us still find it obnoxious to even ask our local "assistant" what the weather is like outside... feels like this is more beneficial to the younger generation. The youngsters who speak out their search terms rather than pull up the on-screen keyboard for YouTube and Google searches.

Brave new world that lies ahead...
Give me a good reason why I would ask ChatGPT what is the weather like outside or what it will be like in the following few days instead of just opening a weather app?

I am not downplaying the usefulness of tools like these, but some use cases mentioned here are questionable.

Yea will it sing the results to me and tell a story?
You won’t believe the stories it’ll tell you!

What I found funny in the entry for “bard” on Wikipedia, in the present context: “a bard is […] employed by a patron […] to praise the patron's own activities.”

Isn’t this literally the plot of that AI killer robot movie where its user used his version of Google (blue gene?) to mine human thinking patterns and then makes the killer robot who kills him.

There are racists and conspiracy theorists already trying to make chatbots that are trained on racist and conspiracy theorist misinfo.

Echo chambers will still exist, extremists will just use this for themselves.

Anyone who tries to stop them or criticise them will be accused of trying to oppress their “free speech”.
Current AI has already been demonstrated to be heavily biased. I am not sure what use a racist chat bot is but given how the creators didn’t even realize how biased their creations are it should be no problem to needlessly create bots of every persuasion.

A lot of investment in this area, and announcements coming at the same time. Meta could have been at the forefront of this if they weren’t distracted by the Metaverse project. They could have been a legitimate competitor to Google, but they blew the opportunity.

This whole thing about AI has just shot out of the cannon and my only thought is can we slow it down so the machines don't attack us like the Cylons or Terminators? Have people not watched Dystopian TV/Movies in the past? I mean what's the rush.

Where is Apple on this competition?

ChatGPT works better than Siri, also Siri is not great outside US country and english language. ChatGPT should be integrated with Siri (for all world).

Is Apple getting lost the AI decade?

it is possible that Apple could be planning to introduce similar capabilities to the Safari browser in the future

Why not Siri? Ostensibly Siri already does this, poorly.

Hopefully this AI hype lately will finally kick Apple's butt into gear about being serious about Siri.

My response is that the “AI decade” is largely overblown, and I think too many people are mistakenly attaching AI to just chatGPT, a technology which I feel is overrated.

From Apple’s perspective, Tim Cook did mention they view Crash detection, fall detection and ECG are examples of AI. While not perfect, they have helped save lives, and Apple is uniquely positioned to implement them in a manner that is human-first and not the other way around.

I am reminded of smart speakers, where pundits claimed would be the new era of computing, but they didn’t go anywhere, and Amazon lost a ton of money.

My take is that Apple doesn’t need to hop on this AI bandwagon, they will go on to do just fine, and we should just sit back and watch chatGPT (and its equivalents) misfire for the competition.

Google took a great product, Google Search, and have basically now renamed it to Bard with this next generation of search. Terrible.

Microsoft took a terrible product with a stupid name, Bing, and have basically now given it the exact same identity.

Google should've called it something similar. Even "Google Advanced Search" sounds better. Microsoft should've renamed it. Bing sucks and nobody uses it. Even DuckDuckGo is my primary browser and I only fall back to Google when I can't find something, which is becoming a rare occasion. Give Microsoft's search a fresh new life with a new name. Strike while the iron is hot! ChatGPT is huge right now.
