And Google flashed that cash because the US carriers aren’t going with Google because they see a powerful need for RCS communications to exist. And, they’re not doing it out of the goodness of their hearts for their poor US customers. They’re doing it Google’s dollars are literally the only way they’d see profit from the implementation. Considering how Google is rapidly killing projects and R&D left and right, some executive is going to eventually ask what benefit they’re receiving from all this outlay… Those services may not be long for this world!
Um... the 4 US carriers were actually in the works to implement nationwide RCS adoption back in 2019. Until Google stepped in. Then TMobile and AT&T backed out and it crashed.

Because this is the order of operations. It benefits Apple nothing to implement a protocol not being used by carriers. Carriers institute a UP standard and then the messengers get updated with whatever protocol is utilized. What if Apple implements standard RCS and carriers all implement RCSe? They're going to look pretty dumb.

Once again that takes us back to the question: Big Bang or Phased?

Huh?
AT&T has implemented RCS;
"Yes! The Advanced Messaging enhancements being introduced to Android smartphones adhere to RCS standards. AT&T has made a number of network updates to support Advanced Messaging. We continue to bring RCS to devices within our network, and provide RCS interconnectivity between major mobile carriers."

Have to check on TMo but my Android is on TMo and I use RCS via Google Messages.

Yes, the CCMI which they gave up on when they couldn’t see a financial benefit to adopting RCS. They DID see a financial benefit when Google started throwing dollars.

*AT&T has implemented *Google's* RCS. Not UP. AT&T and TMobile implemented *Google's* RCS instead of going with UP with the other 2 major carriers in the country, as they were originally working towards.

How is "Google's RCS" not UP?

Look, I think Apple, Google, the three major US cellphone carriers, the three major Mexican cellphone carriers and the three major Canadian cellphone carriers should just get together and hash out a common standard for rich format messaging that can be used by both iPhones and Android phones by default.

Nothing wrong with thinking that should happen. In reality, no one outside the US is interested because those carrier’s customers are using OTT apps for rich format messaging which can be used by both iPhones and Android phones.

Big Bang - all carriers adopt and implement RCS then Apple joins in
Phased - carriers adopt and implement RCS over time and Apple joins in as this is occurring.
Phased is how it's going to have to be at this point. But I don't know if the other 2 carriers have the means of implementing it without TMobile and AT&T.

Because they modified it? If it were simply UP, why would Google be the one pushing it and utilizing their servers to implement it?

Because pretty much every carrier that was going to implement UP was doing their own version. By using Google’s they had a “standard” version to use. Win - Win for Google and the Carrier.

? TMo and AT&T have implemented it. Verizon supports is for specific devices.
That is the 3 main US carriers.

All three are using the Google Messages version.

No. Can you use RCS when on those carriers -- yes, so yes, they implemented it. How they did it doesn't matter.

Yes and no.

Yes you can use some form of RCS on some devices on some carriers with some apps. No question about it.

Apple is not going to implement RCS in iMessage in RCS’ current state. No question about it.

Apple is not going to send iMessage traffic through a Google relay server. No question about it.

I agree, but I also think it's idiotic they wont and a net loss for their customers.

That I don't agree with. Google's the default search engine for Safari...

According to Mr Cook, Apple customers are not asking for RCS. Me included. I can’t tell that I’m missing much.

Maybe Google will pay Apple another 20 billion or so to pass Apple-encrypted RCS messages through Apple servers paid for by Google?

I am also an Apple customer, have 2 Macs sitting right next to me and I've had iPhones since the 4. I am asking for RCS support, because I know it's better than SMS/MMS for texting interchange between different OS phones.

I can’t tell that I’m missing much.
That's not my problem.

They might, who knows. Apple obviously doesn't mind taking their money.

Send feedback to apple. Feedback@apple.com.
That's not my problem.
It’s apples problem if they decide to tackle it.

I think if google offered apple $$$B and apple took them up in their offer it’s a win-win for everybody: customers, shareholders, management, etc.
