And iMessage is better than regular SMS.RCS is better all around than SMS. Why is everyone here being pro Apple when clearly apple is in the wrong?

The carriers have supported it for quite some time...Apple can’t do it without the carriers, and the carriers aren’t interested.
Ahhh the battle forstandardizationinteroperability. Just wait a bit for EU law on cross compatibility of messaging apps to kick in. This will be interesting…
I think a lot of people in this thread think Google wants Apple to replace iMessage even though that isn't the case.RCS is better all around than SMS. Why is everyone here being pro Apple when clearly apple is in the wrong?
Everyone else in the world does the opposite… e-mail is another tech stuck in the 90s…🤷
I just use email. Everyone has it on their phone. The only texts I get are from those payment reminders.
Edit : to the few Disagree votes I got. You don’t use email? 😂
Google can't adopt Facetime or iMessage as Apple won't allow it. So, in this case, Apple needs to play nice with others. Steve Jobs even said that Facetime would be open source and that never materialized. People should be able to communicate on a unified standard and not keep others out because they won't want to buy their product.Haven't we been through this already? Google should fix what's broken and adopt iMessage.
iMessage would not disappear if Apple adopted RCS. It would continue to work between iPhone users as it does now.No thanks, I like iMessage.
Discord and WhatsApp exists for a reason.
Here's a great breakdown of their messaging "strategies" specifically:Yup. https://killedbygoogle.com/
They have killed functional services with hundreds of thousand of users. Classic was Google Reader - just to kill RSS. And they managed to do that, thanks.
Apple implemented SMS. So why wouldn't they implement the next-gen version of SMS (RCS)? This has nothing to do with iMessage. Why would Apple implement RCS when they have iMessage?
Pretty much. Just like MMS. The first iPhone ONLY supported SMS. But, because the carriers supported MMS, MMS support eventually came to the iPhone. No Google ad campaign required. The carrier’s version of RCS is useless, and Google’s version isnt the standard and relies on their relay servers to work in addition. That’s the core problem
If the carriers consistently supported a useful version of RCS as an upgrade to SMS I suspect Apple would adopt it even without a cudgel
There are people who don’t trust them and there are people who don’t care. The people who don’t care is the bread and butter of data mining companies.I wonder is there anyone who actually trusts Meta?
In some places, the recipient is still charged for GETTING it, though. To be fair, you should know that sending an SMS might be charged as part of your mobile plan. Most plans gift you unlimited SMS anyway these days.
Not everyone wants to submit their information to Facebook(Meta). I certainly won't.Pretty much everyone outside the US has been using external apps as the de facto messaging standard for years, mainly WhatsApp. There's no particular reason to rely on your phone manufacturer or your telco for this kind of service.
