This is usually how these things go. Corporations don’t intervene on their own good will.Apple is heading towards government intervention to address anti-competitive behaviour.
I do not think so as they have lulled the user into a false sense of safety and privacy. They are not perfect, but much better than the direct competition in most of these areas. So it is more than hot air.
But many of these goals often compete with "business interests" or even laws, which makes them harder to accomplish. But as usual, it is better than not doing anything.
Unless…. It’s also money to stop them from re-releasing Safari on Windows again.I'm sure the deal is real but the conclusions are reaching. Safari is a "credible challenger" to Chrome in the ecosystems where it exists.. its by far the most used browser on Mac/iOS. However, overall, MacOS and iOS have ~8% and ~30% of their respective markets so there is no way in hell they will ever be able to realistically challenge Chrome's dominance.
On the search thing, paying to be the default is basically standard practice. The only reason Mozilla is able to keep the lights on is because Google pays them to be the default in Firefox.
Another keyboard warrior who doesn’t understand why we have laws to control these sorts of deals.Another stupid waste of time. Breaking news. Two businesses have a business deal that benefits both.![]()
If Alphabet hasn't been targeted for making Google the default on Chrome or Microsoft for making Bing the default on their Edge browser, then Apple won't be targeted. In addition, if Apple made a search engine, lawyers would be targeting Apple for making its own search engine the default.
Some websites simply do not work on Safari, I am forced to use Chrome on my mac because of it. And there is not just a larger but a vastly huge amount of extensions for Chrome compared to Safari. I do prefer Safari for energy consumption and RAM management.
Edge is a pretty solid browser 👏For me, Chromium-based Edge offers the best combination of extension/site compatibility and resource usage.
$15 billion annually > Apple making a bold statement.
If Alphabet hasn't been targeted for making Google the default on Chrome or Microsoft for making Bing the default on their Edge browser, then Apple won't be targeted.
Check your router. Are you telling me Safari could've been even snappier??
I remember when Steve got into trouble with the secret deal to not poach employees from Google.
Non-compete agreements are now known to be blatantly illegal. Especially in today’s political climate, this is going to result in fines and possibly criminal charges.
SAN FRANCISCO (Reuters) - Four Silicon Valley companies including Apple Inc and Google Inc have agreed to a new settlement that would resolve an antitrust class action lawsuit by tech workers, who accused the firms of conspiring to avoid poaching each other’s employees.
Plaintiffs accused Apple, Google, Intel Corp and Adobe Systems Inc in the 2011 lawsuit of limiting job mobility and, as a result, keeping a lid on salaries.
I'm not stupid enough to think Apple cares about me. Like I always say, they're a business. Their sole purpose is to make as much money as possible. That's it. Nothing more, nothing less. It’a a fair discussion. So many here including you tout apple for their privacy efforts. Yet it’s clearly not the case here as it’s about the money.
Apple had the optics of caring about you. Guess what? They don’t.
You're right. I'm totally hurt by the fact I have to spend 10 seconds of my life to change my default browser. The pain. The struggle. Life is so hard now....through an illegal division of the market that hurts consumers.
There you go! Your summary was severely lacking.
You know DDG is heavily reliant on Microsoft Bing though, right? I mean it’s just pulling from APIs for it’s bangs and widgets, but majority of the links are still Bing and Oath/Yahoo which switched to Bing years ago. DDG is a great middleman helping out, but I just don’t want people thinking they built their own fully-fledged Google/Bing crawler and are competing on that level.DuckDuckGo every day, all the way.
