Not from Apple. They even don't give 5GB iCloud storage in addition when you buy 20GB or bigger storage plan. We pay for 20GB and we get those 20GB, 5GB which is "free" disappears.

Doesn't that mean they're charging you for 15GBs and giving you 5GBs free?

So now they also have "Moments" tab on Google Photo?

This is literally a WWDC recap from years back, except it's Google...

Same as every Google privacy policy. They get to index and analyze the contents of all your stuff. They take things like location and time and date data to build a better profile of you. Where you go, what you do, who you're there with, and more. Then they use that data to sell ads.

I figured it would look something like that. Is Flickr similar for their free TB? Free never really is free, is it?

So is there any point to using Apple Photos rather than Google Photos? It seems like Google Photos can do everything Apple Photos does and more, and comes with virtually unlimited free cloud storage.

Also, when using Google Photos on a desktop computer, does it have a standalone app or is it all done through a web browser? That's the only drawback I could see, as I like to have full original versions of all my photos stored locally on my desktop.

puts Siri to shame however i would probably use neither.

my 5GB storage on 64GB devices looks pretty sad now tho :-/

Google Pay is still insecure compared to Apple Pay, unless Google mandates that every Android phone comes with a secure enclave. And they won't.

Or the name makes more sense than Android Wallet because Android Wallet sounds like an app and not an API.

It also makes sense to have fingerprint authentication and tokenization....just like Apple Pay.

The best thing to ever happen to Google Wallet? Apple Pay.

I might ever put all my photos on Google Photos or Apple's iCloud. All these years it's been fine using the normal storage methods that have been working perfectly.

Pretty much. I believe they can even use it for advertising.

People didn't bother to read the policy on using the Microsoft #HowOldBot that people were going crazy with recently. It says they can use your picture in any advertising plus sell it to partners.

Facebook has a similar policy. They can use your images for most anything.

Flickr always seems very clunky viewing from the browser. I'll definitely have to give Google Photos a try.

I'll be moving over to Google Photos the second it's available! Unlimited for free, sounds good to me!

I get the Google way of analysing my data etc, doesn't scare or bother me. If it's going to enhance my digital experience I'm in.

Or Google could just mandate Android M or higher, and 90% of Android users won't get until 2018 or so.

they did say PRIVATE and just for YOUR eyes ONLY a lot during the keynote regarding Google Photo so we will see

I wish Apple would implement a plan similar to iTunes Match. I'm happy to pay $25 to sync up all my music across my devices. But to do the same with my photos would cost over $100 per year. I'll keep the originals on my PC and they can use the cloud just to sync.

And why this news is on Macrumors site!!!? )

The funny thing is the Google Photos screenshot looks the same as Yosemite Photos app. The ultimate interface goal shared by all major players in the game in 2015: make it white.

Hey Look, we can't innovate, so we copied everything from Apple. Isn't our new stuff neat?

Google, like China: They rip off everyone else's stuff, do a poor job with the copy, and pretend not to be evil.

Wording from Apple...

You can upgrade your iCloud storage from your iPhone, iPad, iPod touch, Mac, or PC, and you can choose a total of 20 GB, 200 GB, 500 GB, or 1 TB. After you upgrade, we'll bill you monthly.1 If you purchased an annual plan before September 10, 2014, your account was upgraded to a new annual plan. If you need to change your storage plan, you must choose a monthly plan. See the monthly pricing per country below.

They are not selling 20GB + 5GB free, it is clear that you are moving from 5 to 20.

You don't have to be a blind fan to like Apple, you know that right?

"Unlimited" is becoming one of those weird buzz words where everyone gets hard about the possibility and then realize they only upload 4-5gbs of photos in their lifetime.

Also, I read that the crowd "went nuts" over the whole drag and select thing. Huh.

Other than "Unlimited", it's no different than Apple. I take a photo. Photo is on Mac. I take the photo out of iCloud and store it on a hard drive or upload somewhere else. It took Google this long to finally say "Forget it. Lets just do what they did."
