I can see that being an issue for some. I don't really care about that though I guess?

I love looking back through all my old photos but I never print them or need them urgently on demand for anything. The whole reason I use Google Photos is so I can have an archive of ALL my smartphone photos and not take up any local storage.
It depends a lot on how much you trust cloud storage. I don't.

I treat cloud storage like data on a hard drive. It's one copy, so as a rule if I have something important stored in the cloud I need to have a backup copy on a different medium, like locally on my computer.

Not necessarily using Google widgets on my X, but I agree with the idea of having widgets populate my home screen. Much more efficient. Still would prefer the flexibility of Windows 10 mobile screens though -- that was the best.

I have plenty of issues with Google, but I like the idea of using widgets more aggressively, and in some cases to replace Apple's stock apps. The new Safari is driving me crazy, so why not Chrome?

Also, the blog entry is much less heavy-handed than this writeup suggests. It shows off Google's widgets (of course), but many of its suggestions apply to any widgets a user might choose.

I actually was a die hard Android guy before I realized I wanted better hardware. That said I still use tons of Google apps. Google Photos search results blow away ios photo app. Chrome is better for me than safari. But I am so glad to be typing this on my new 13 Pro Max!

That actually looks good to me minus the google drive widget.

One thing google is saying is that you can turn the iPhone into the best Google device. Especially when Google Apps look and work better on iOS and some of their software works better than Apples (maps, photos, drive, duo, chrome and translate).

And their widgets on iOS are so much better which is really really weird why they don't start improving on Android widgets.

Google’s iOS widgets are terrible. They don’t even support all sizes and they don’t even do the tasks I want.

Oh man, I thought I'd give this a go on a second screen. Dragging the widgets across my first screen laid waste to all my current icons. With the mess that is the iPad icon layout and the mess that is the Safari tabs/navbar in Mac OS I am about ready to throw my Apple devices in the trash.

I'm curious if anyone uses Google Chrome over Safari? If so, why?
There are a few websites I access that don't totally work right in Safari. For example, Ubiquiti's CloudKey Protect has snapshot (jpg) button that makes a 100% black image instead of a real image. And, Fidelity's "TotalView" doesn't work with Safari. I use Firefox for those sites.

This is not interesting. Of course they want this. Apple wants Android users to try Apple Music. Toyota wants you to buy Toyota. Pfizer wants you to take the vaccine and a million boosters. Macdonald’s wants you to buy a Big Mac. Of course Google wants you to use their products anyway they can.

Oh come on this is not the best article trying to bash Google. It is google showing all the widgets you can do and lets face it Apple made it widgets possible and let people do it.
Now I personally have not done widgets yet and I need to clean up all my icons and then I would look at doing it and reducing the number of home screens.

The app drawer is honestly one of the biggest things I miss about Android as new apps would go there and I would only add what I wanted to home screen.

This is not a good solution for iPhone users. If we wanted android we would have gone android.
I'm not so smug that I won't admit to wanting a few more Android Features and customization options on iPhone. I mean the thing cost me $1400 and after a decade I still can't remove the app title under the icon.

Since my company uses google calendar, the calendar widget is actually super useful. Everything else is just a link to the app… for example the email widget doesn’t tell you anything other than providing a link to compose and search… same goes for the google search app.

Even though this whole thing is kind of sad, I have to give kudos to Google for their Calendar app. It's better than the built in calendar app because it shows you the entire month and the events on one page, written out, rather than just a calendar with dots you have to tap to see what they are.
It not better. Its MILES AND MILES better. So is the mail app for that matter. Apple is getting out done on their own device because they have terrible leaders running the show.

Ha! Good must be out of their mind. They should focus on Pixel devices instead of worrying about iPhone.
Yeah, good point. I find this extremely weird messaging considering they’re about to release the phone they say will be able to compete with Samsung and Apple flagships. That’s odd timing.

I get that they’re all about selling their services to harvest marketing data, so the fact they’re trying to get iPhone users to use their widgets doesn’t surprise me. It’s that they’re also saying bring the best of Google to their iPhones instead of buying an Android device. This is odd because they’ve been trying to sell smartphone customers hard on the idea they’re really committed to the Pixels this year and serious about making them premium devices to rival iPhone and Samsung at last.

I’m interested in the new Pixel but holding back, because I want to see what quality control issues they might have. Now this is another red flag, to be honest. Google is notorious for abruptly abandoning projects. As someone who actually likes Pixels, I find this concerning and weird.

Edit: massive correction: After looking through the actual blog post I see this MR article took some liberties. Google is NOT hinting people should not purchase an Android phone.
