Funny, I have zero lag on my Nexus 5 and I don't miss the slow zoom to open a folder on ios 7.

I hate when people who haven't used recent products from a maker make false comments.

Just like I can't say whether new blackberries or window phones suck because I haven't used one for at least a few months. There's a learning curve when you are so used to one OS. Not fair to judge just picking one up for 5 minutes and judging. Then again the lag comment tells me you probably haven't even done that.

A lot of the apps you would pay for are free on google play. (especially games) Let's be honest for the apps that you'd really want to pay for on Android It's probably a $20 dollar investment in total.

Wrong... there are more FREE games on iOS.. and in some events.. expensive games are given for free too for limited time.

This. I don't have the funds for the iPad mini that I want but if I get a Nexus 7, not only will all my devices (right now I have a MBP and iPhone) no longer "just work" together (the ecosystem factor), but I'll have to invest in reacquiring all my apps.

Nexus 7 is almost $200 cheaper. That's a heck of a lot paid android apps. Most you can find for free as well anyway.

The ecosystem I get but I've moved over to the google ecosystem even on my apple devices since I can access them on any type of computer not just my personal mac products.

If apple goes web based with everything like google for accessibility that will get me interested in flipping. Still love my macbook since apple hasn't made it a walled garden yet.

Why don't you read what I said. I never said google play has more free games. I said they have a lot of the games you pay for on ios for free like all the angry birds, cut the rope etc.

I believe iOs has more apps in general so they probably have more free games. But a lot of apps are crap on both platforms so I really only care about the quality stuff.

False comment that my nexus 5 doesn't have lag? Dude you stalking me my smartphone or something?

Shouldn't I know if my phone lags?

And only jackass Android fanboys actively go to a competing platform's forums to advocate for Android. The hell? Nothing better to do?

Hmm maybe he likes tech products in general including apple and respects that both android phones and iPhones are good devices and both have pluses and minuses?

The thread is about a guide on how to convert to Android got expect a few people to support Android in it. There are a lot of people that own and use Apple products and Android products. Does that mean we aren't allowed on macrumors?

Hey, that's a pretty decent starters guide for Android conversion without the usual snarky bits. There are still multiple things that can still go wrong in translation but switching ecosystems is pretty tough. I just want devices that I don't have to "manage". If Google could actually do that with my current info and content, I would switch but apparently they still can't so Android is continually a passing fancy as a toy that I can occasionally purchase to tinker with but never use as my daily driver.

You guys are all so invested in your stuff. Android isn't bad, it's hard to use but can be more practical if you are willing to waste some time and effort. Especially at $350, the nexus 5 is a great phone.

They both have their strengths and weaknesses. But that's for Apple and Google to fight for and for us to just enjoy. All you people limiting yourselves to just one company are just pathetic and missing out.

Keep Mac contacts synced with gmail and your pretty much set with the only thing you need in "the cloud".

I trued using Gmail to keep contacts synced between my iPhone/iPad Nexus7/4 and the contacts never went between platforms. I don't know why but only calendar events seemed to sync back and forth.

Regrettably, the iOS 7 resemblance of Android, in terms of wacky colors and inconsistencies, makes the switching easier than ever .

Good for you. Too bad the Nexus 4 doesn't offer the same great experience. Just saying, there's more than one Nexus device.

Happened to me too but then if you go to the settings choose "All Contacts" on the Android devices and your contacts should appear.

Unless your issue is on the Apple side, which I wouldn't know how to solve.

My Nexus 4 was super fast with NO lag. I was always so amazed at how opening a notification would instantly open that app. Now my 5S is that fast.

I didn't feel the Nexus 5 was worth the upgrade this year so I bought the 5S.

No other Android phones interested me. I did look at the S4 but then there is no telling how fast it would get OS updates. Not willing to play that game. Will wait till next year to see what the next Nexus is.

Owned iPhone 3G, 3GS and 4S. Loved them.
Currently own Nexus 5. Love it more.

I don't give a rats ass about specs, ecosystem or whatever the hell anyone else does.

Android feels right to me. Especially 4.4

D.

I'm your twin except I had a 4 and a 5 not a 4S ;). I like the nexus more as well. So much more customization and ability to share. Notifications are done much better then ios as well. Those are key features to me. iMessage is still better than hangouts though (google will probably catch up in time) and textra is a great sms app so I'm just using that for non group messages and hangouts for group messages. Had to do that on the iphone anyway because most of my friends had switched to Android phones.

I do miss the mailbox app, hoping dropbox makes an android version soon. Gmail is nice with instant reply/archive from the notification pull down in Android which lessens the pain of losing mailbox. :)

They copied over to start with but any new contacts would not sync over.

I think the main issue about this article is not which operating system we prefer, but rather, what is the CEO of a major corporation doing writing an article like this? Is it just me who thinks this is a little over the top?

I am quoting Apple fanboys famous quote: benchmark means nothing...

And you know where Android beats Apple? It is god damn OS... This OS still cannot reply emails with file attachments, still cannot navigate files easily and still cannot share stuff easily...
Apple has been able to open doc files, pdfs, and many other file formats natively for 5 years now. Something that Android still can't do without an app. I always find it frustrating to send a file to android user and then have to help them download an app to open it. While every iPhone user who got the same standard windows document could read it. Share sheets much easier than Android. Anything can be shared to most anywhere including airdropping files to other iOS devices. You can also copy and paste any file you want into an email easily even a photo or video on the phone. Navigating files is a dumb and useless hold over from the windows world that was copied from the mac 3 decades ago. Apple removed the need for this on macs 5 or 6 years ago with spotlight search. The left the ability to do it but search makes more sense. Just type the name of what you are looking for and it comes up. If you are not sure of the name you can just type words or phrases you know are included. It even works on pdfs. Android can't touch this. Many of the things you think are great on android because the yell that they are, are not implemented in usable fashion. Many have long been provided by apps so apple never needed to include them in the OS. There are several hundred un documented features hidden in each release that just makes things happen in the back ground.

Just got a nexus 5 its pretty dope! But yeah not a bad idea to wait another year at least to upgrade your 4. Google is going through a refinement stage right now and needs to improve integration a little bit. Like haven't so many photo apps/galleries. I still prefer it over ios because I can change my default apps, customize, share what I want and I prefer what you can do with notifications in android.

iPhones are great devices just limited for the type of things I like to do with my smartphone.

You must not remember how apple used to state how easy it is to convert to a mac from pc and how they would transfer everything over from your pc for you.

Just playing devils advocate but that seems a step above a guide on how to convert to a different platform of smartphone.

I don't think there is anything wrong with either strategy. Make it easy for customers to switch and let them decide which they prefer.

So Eric, you mean to say that flagship quadcore 2.4Ghz+ android devices struggling to keep up with the iPhone's dual 1.4Ghz cores is "faster"? That's some dream world you're living in.

There are iSheeps then there are iZombies - pick your litter

iPhone's dual core 1.4GHz drives windows 3.1-esque interface and operating system.

Quad core 2.3GHz Krait 400 for a real computing platform. If you can't see that, then stick with your iPhone.

Next thing we'll hear is iPhone 6 with 4.5" screen, extra row of icons on home screen, same 4 icon dock, and you girls jump for joy!

I was replying to someone who said specifically my nexus 5 lagged. Can't comment on a nexus 4 never owned one.

Also, Apple doesn't mind pissing customers off, so Google is harvesting converts.
- Android-looking iOS7
- $100 premium to jump from 16GB to 32GB, $32 to 64GB, etc.
- inability to export from iOS to SD Card (even with the Apple $30 adapter)
- Lightning connector for $30
- No user replaceable batteries, they know there isn't enough power to last you through the day
- Glass all the way to the edge, (designed by Swarovski)
- Forced iOS7 upgrades with no going back to iOS6, thus forcing you to change your user experience

I don't know why people still insist on seeing it as an Apple VS Android battle. First of all, there is no battle. And even if there were, how does that comparison make any sense? There are a thousand Android phones and just a couple iPhones. Further more the platforms are so insanely different it's not even worth comparing.

If there is enough room in this world for Macs and PC's, clearly there is enough room for iPhones and Androids.

I can't imagine what Steve Jobs ever saw in this guy. Even before all the "copy then destroy iPhone" attitude that has run rampant inside of Google and Eric Schmidt, he ALWAYS struck me as very creepy and weird. Just the way he talked. I'm sure he's a smart guy, but he just reaked of a creepy weasel ever since I first heard him talk.

But Schmidt really has become like Microsoft. Talk up how great the iPhone and Apples abilities are, then copy it when you realize how inferior your original product is, then try to exterminate it from the face of this planet. He even talks up the Mac in this same post, mentioning switching from PC and never looking back. Yet still tries to besmirch the iPhone.

How about people just use whatever makes them happy? Instead of vomiting incredibly uninspiring speeds and feeds nonsense in a tacky attempt to persuade iphone users on G+ (which is filled with mostly Google fanboys to begin with). Oh wait, I know the sudden reason Schmidt would resort to something this tacky....because Google had a substantial loss to their Maps userbase, due to Apples Maps. Gee, that precious market share didn't seem to help much there, did it?

... And everyone that posts comments on YouTube.

Not true.

Also youtube sucks, it used to be great but then it wanted to make money, and heavily censor and removw content... Yet nobody monitors comments so threatening, hareful, racist and homophobic language gets into every comments section ...
