I strongly suspect, but am obviously just speculating, that one reason Firefox hasn't bothered to develop robust adblocking for its ios/ipados platform is precisely this--they know Google is neck-deep in the advertising sector and don't want to bite the hand that feeds them.
That's probably an accurate assumption. I noticed that for the desktop version, there's a "Facebook" container add on developed by Mozilla that keeps Facebook from tracking you across the web. There is no such container for Google unless you install a third party one. But it's pretty clear that Mozilla themselves aren't going to go out there and block the company that is their main source of income. Although you can "harden" Firefox for privacy, I still question how much of their internal code they allow users to modify when it comes to blocking out Google. Considering they only exist because of the money Google gives them, I think it's safe to assume (though I could be wrong) that no matter what you do to Firefox, it won't be private. They've also been very vocal about de-platforming people, which is the exact opposite of their marketing.

I'm not sure what you are referring to here. The Eich thing? Personally, my sympathies lie with Mozilla on that one, and I strongly dislike the views that Eich expressed and that created an awkward situation for him in the company. But picking a browser is not picking a CEO whose personal politics I might dislike, just like when I listen to music I am not endorsing the performer's politics. So I go with Brave for now because I think its product is superior to the alternatives. If/when that stops being the case, I will stop using them.

No. Not the Eich thing.

January 6th aside ... the language they use in this is ... alarming. They use a situation people think is bad to push an agenda that honestly has nothing to do with the original thing in the first place. They sound a lot like Google, who recently got in trouble for pushing abortion clinics while censoring out pregnancy help centers in their search results. It's not good for big tech to control what we can and cannot see. It's absurd.

I honestly don't understand why people still use Google. But uh ... yeah ... less battery consumption and memory use. Yay!

Well, it was a bad situation and was the making of a circle of people who should have known better. That said, yeah, Mozilla entering into the fracas of playing favorites re: websites, essentially saying some should be disconnected, is not their lane and is bound to have ominous consequences, whatever one's view of the 1/6 riots.

Not sure what I am missing here? I used chrome in grad school because I used google docs for my papers, but it was a battery drain and slowed my MBP way down. Am I the only one perfectly content with Safari?

I use safari on occasion. Especially for things that support apple id or apple pay.

However, safari is slower and even with plugins, it's not as good as brave in blocking ads (e.g. youtube) and other spam (e.g. cookie consent popups). Chrome based browsers usually do multi-threading a lot better than other engines.

Gonna enable these features and do a battery test and see what the battery life is like...stand by....
