I've been observing some strangeness with the latest version of Safari 16.3 for macOS where it isn't redrawing parts of the page properly. I need to do a page refresh to get it to behave properly. I've only seen this very randomly, and for a short period of time, not consistently. But it did concern me.

Chrome sure is super fast and feels rock solid.

Safari is my primary browser, but Chrome is a close second. I use both in my web development work, as Chrome's Web Inspector reporting can be more informative in its error messages. Where things remained a mystery in Safari, Chrome reported an exact error message that identified the issue.
Safari is a sad joke at this point. Lots of page rendering issues. Zero customization or themes, NO profile support, horrible bookmark management, series lack of extension support.

People crap on Chrome all the time and honestly, i'd like to try something new. I keep coming back to it. Why?

  • Safari - No multi profiles, odd way to group tabs (makes little sense). I like the way Chrome groups tab
  • Edge - close second. Tried it for a few weeks but it was too busy with the coupons and tons of unnecessary menu options.
  • Firefox - My IT staff wont support it
  • Brave - MY IT staff has banned it.
MY two cents.
100% this. Chrome on my Mac’s destroyes all other browsers in terms of performance and website compatibility. Sync is faster and the interface is simple and clean.

I need and use Multiple profiles, 3. Two for work and a personal. Theming each profile helps me distinguish them quickly.

Edge was good for a while but Microsoft bloated the foooook out of it and keeps doing so. Coupons, side bar, BING jammed in your face all the time (new tabs) resetting your defaults with new versions.

Brave is just odd to me in so many ways. Like some kind of pyramid scheme browser/cult browser of choice.

Chrome with UBlock Origin and Bit Warden is all I need.

The latest version of the Google Chrome browser designed for Macs includes optimizations that are designed to preserve battery life. In a blog post shared today, Google says that with a single full charge, a 13-inch M2 MacBook Pro running Chrome can be used to browse the internet for 17 hours or watch YouTube for 18 hours.

With improvements to Energy Saver mode, browsing time is extended for another 30 minutes by reducing unnecessary background tasks, and while Google uses the M2 MacBook Pro as an example, the company says that those using older Macs will also see performance gains.

To boost battery life, Google made changes that include tuning iframes to consume less energy, tweaking JavaScript timers to wake the CPU less often, streamlining data structures to optimize access, and eliminating unnecessary redraws.

Google plans to continue to optimize Energy Saver mode in the future. The Chrome browser for Macs can be downloaded from Google's website, with the 110 version released last week.

Imagine how many commercials one will have to watch in 18 hours 😵‍💫

Apple has a charge slower mode to help the environment
While this may not be related to this thread, my response to that video is - I've had a handful of people ask me why their devices are charging slower after watching this video.

The only way this is activated is if Optimized Charging is activated - which ... usually is only run when you have your phone plugged in all night long and Apple learns your charging habits over many weeks. So, most people will NOT notice this and for most people, Green Charging will charge when optimize charging charges right before someone wakes up (early morning).

So .... no, this isn't going to make your phone charge slower. It delays charging ONLY when optimized charging is active and it is advantageous to charge later (which optimized charging did already ... for most people anyway).

Quoted from Apple's webpage linked above: "Clean Energy Charging works together with Optimized Battery Charging to learn your charging habits. Clean Energy Charging engages only where you spend the most time and regularly charge your iPhone for long periods of time, such as your home and place of work. The feature doesn't engage if your charging habits are variable or you're in a new location, such as when you travel."

This green charging option is on by default.

This green charging option is on by default.
Yep, and it only activates when optimized charging is being utilized according to Apple's own website. So anyone who isn't already using optimized charging will never see this.

you can block ads and even block sponsors with sponsorblock.
Sponsors I don't mind b/c I can easily manually skip through those. As for ads...

What platforms does it work on? I view YouTube on Windows, Android, and my Chromebook. If we want to be comprehensive, I've also viewed YouTube on my iPad, and (Nintendo) Switch.

Does Sponsorblock work without administrative privileges? (something I lack on my work computer).

... YouTube Premium's ad-free covers all of those platforms.

In an unexpected twist, I know some people who got YouTube Premium not for that, but actually for YouTube Music! :O

Nice. Chrome is good and I keep it around as a backup but I don't really dig Googles privacy stance. IMO it's not good to interact with the internet through an advertising giant.

Can’t tell if you’re being serious. Power consumption of browser? Vs what? A lawnmower ?
Did you actually read what I wrote? Chrome power consumption vs safari vs firefox. The article is about how long a battery charge lasts while using chrome, which is more or less inversely proportional to the power consumption.
