If only Jobs would have kept his promise and opened FaceTime so everyone could use it. Sure would be nice to be able to use it with Android friends too.

Yup, the FaceTime tech produces a better quality video/audio experience than Skype in low-bandwidth situations. It's a real shame that they didn't follow through on that promise of making it open-source. We might have the iChat-like multi-party chat experience by now, and I'd be able to use FaceTime with my Android friends. Right now, they go "FaceTime? What's that?".... such a divided world we live in. Thanks Apple.

(Possibly some licensing issues at hand with that, but I'll still blame Apple's greediness) :p

It's like ordering filet mignon at a diner. It just wouldn't feel right.

If you buy the $17,000 Apple Watch, they feed you a filet mignon while you are fitting the watch :D

Same question I asked bbeagle, how is the relevant?

What exactly are you biting? Nowhere in that quote from spectrumfox was there an implication that Apple likes competition less than any other company.
I read this: "Apple doesn't tend to like competition all that much..."

Did you read something like this instead: "More than any other company, Apple hates competition. Other companies are okay with competition, but not Apple."

/confused;)

Yes, i read that to be a dig at Apple. And the "biting" is because if you dare to respond to such digs on MacRumors, you get attacked. It usually is utterly pointless to even delve into the conversation. Your reply is a great example: you jump on me for asking him to explain why he thinks that apple hates competition. But hey, i've been in these forums daily for, i don't know.... like a decade... so i know what to expect.

I have to say that is one nice looking watch. I like the Apple Watch as well, but really am a "one color" fan and can't afford an all stainless Apple Watch just now.

IMO the watch in person doesn't look nearly as nice as that CGI does. At least not the one I saw at Best Buy.

I saw it at Best Buy also and it looked atrocious. Granted, I saw the leather strap and I'm sure the metal one is nicer, but even the casing felt very cheap and the bezel is ugly.

All the smart watches need to shed some weight. Disgusting obese pigs they are. Well - not that bad, but for a watch that's not a "hood watch".

don't try passing this off like Apple is some superior entity here. their business model is overal more restrictive.

I'm not saying Apple is some superior entity here.

I realize that Apple isn't making the Phone work in more places, but Google is. But that doesn't matter to the consumer, does it? Imagine this conversation at Best Buy.

Customer: 'I'd like to buy a phone'
Employee: 'Okay, we've got a Samsung, an LG, and an Apple phone'
Customer: 'I'd also like to get a watch in the future.'
Employee: 'Ok... we have a Pebble, Moto 360 and an Apple Watch'
Customer: 'I want a phone that will work with any watch I choose'
Employee: 'Only the Apple phone can do that. The Samsung and LG phones are restricted to only the Pebble and Moto 360.'
Customer: 'Thanks! I made up my mind - I'll get the Apple phone'

Why would anyone buy an android wear watch if you can buy the better apple watch? All the negatives with the Apple watch are amplified with the current android watches.

Because the apple watch isn't better. also cost

yes, if Android wear devices do become usable in full by Apple phones, then apple would offer the greater choice

Exactly. Sort of puts the term 'open' on it's head.

however, this statement is still incorrect.

two completely different concepts that you are confusing.

I didn't jump on you. I asked a question: Why are you biting? I went further by explaining what he said vs what I thought your interpretation was. That's not an attack, at least in my book.

BTW, I read it as a dig at Apple as well, because it was. But nowhere did it say anything about Apple liking competition less than other companies (that was all you). The misinterpretation was my point of contention. Nothing else.

Choices, preferences, and opinions: How do they work?

Along the same lines, why would anyone buy a Honda or a Toyota if you can buy a Mercedes or BMW?

I would buy a Honda or Toyota because they are generally rated higher in reliability, have lower repair costs, cost less to insure, not to mention the lower cost initially. Now, if you mean "Would you rather have the features of a Honda or Toyota compared to the features of a BMW or Mercedes?" I would change my answer immediately.

My daughter still wants an :apple:watch to go with her iPhone. I told her I would buy her version 2. She really wants a this version. I told her she could get one if she took the money from her summer job and purchased it herself. She's looking at Pebble's now.;) With Wear coming (hopefully), she'll have more choices. Choices that will fit her limited personal finances.

Yeah, a whole.... one. One that any Android user wouldn't be caught dead with.

It's only tech fanboys who care. The majority of folks have a wide range of devices and choose the best devices that meet their budget, use cases, and preferences.

You seem to be an Apple hater with all your negative postings. They must make really good products if you still buy their products even if you hate them.

Be careful you do not confuse honesty with hatred. They are two very different things.

I use Apple products on a daily basis, and I like them, but I will not bow down to the company and their practices. I am still allowed to criticize, and I do.

Nothing good comes of having your opinions and thoughts influenced by multi-billion dollar companies.

Jobs said it's all built on open standards. There shouldn't be any licensing issues. I think Apple just wrote the idea off and moved on.

Will be nice for Apple Watch to work with Android phones

Can go both ways. I know folks who are entirely Samsung for phones and tablets but are eyeing the Apple Watch.

Go to a store and check out the quality of the materials used, you might be surprised. I honestly thought it looked really good as well, until I got a closeup look at it.

You make a statement like that and post no actual quality issues.
Priceless...

Not really. Android Wear is open. You may use any phone you want with it. :apple:Watch is closed - you can't use it with any phone other than an iPhone.

It's not that iPhone users have choice because the iPhone is closed, but Android Wear users have choice because Android Wear is open.

That's very true but does it really matter when iOS users get best of both worlds and Android users only get android goodies?

So iPhone users have a wider choice of smartwatch than Android phone users?

Nope. Android users still have wider choice.

Android user: Androd Wear + Tizen + pebble + webos - 1 apple watch
Iphone user: Androd Wear + 1 apple watch+ pebble - approx 10 Tizen watches - webos watch

If apple doesn't let pebble reply to a text on the watch
Why would they let google

Agreed. The Pebble software has been around long enough to mature and it's still limited and finicky. Can't imagine Google's attempt will be that much better given how closed the iOS platform is. Only the Apple Watch will get deeper iOS integration.

That's more on Apple than it is on Google.

I'm sure Google wouldn't mind at all if Apple wrote Android framework for Apple Watch.
