I do not use Facebook. Waste of time as much as I am concerned. Freemium games, well, only on iOS and well, what data can they collect? I am not aware of the kind of data that those games could mine.

You do play freemium games? Oh dear, I highly suggest you change your ideology and thoughts towards Google then.
Freemium game companies 'own you', they sell your data to the highest bidder, its pretty automated now too.

I suggest you read this article from Mac Rumors sister site:

GOOGLE AHHHH THEY ARE WATCHING ME AHHHHH NEVER USE THEM....
And we all 'conveniently choose' to ignore every other aspect of our digital lives that are data mined to hell...... Hypocrisy at its finest.

Apple really needs to add swipe to the iOS keyboard. Once you're used to swiping to type its so annoying to not have it.

Why on earth would you use Google's crappy search engine?

DuckDuckGo.com

There's no going back.

I was just wondering some days ago to try out other search engines as well. I have only few concerns:

1. Everyone uses Google (my clients). They just want me to SEO their content for Google and hence I have to use it.
2. When someone says their website ranks 3rd, it is most likely on Google. And it might be 2nd on Bing, and 6th on Yahoo. But, for my trade, Google search is ubiquitous.

This is the only thing that prevents me from using any other search engine. For my own personal taste I could use any, but when it comes to anything which involves interacting with others, I need to use Google search. This is the one problem that keeps me using their search, otherwise i am done with Google.

I might try it out on my iPhone. Did you test it on your iPhone, or on your Air 2?

Wish this was true. I changed to DDG on both iOS and OS X. Unfortunately it just ... doesn't find what I'm looking for most of the time. I kept switching back to a Google search so often, I shrugged and just changed back.

It gets better all the time. If there are results that it should return but it isn't, give them feedback. They generally respond within minutes.

Also, bangs. In the 1% of searches where I feel like results are missing from DDG's results, I just add !g to the end of my query. Then it'll return the Google results instead of DDG's. There's thousands of bangs. Those are the main thing that keep me hooked on DDG. Need to search Amazon for a product. <name of product> !a, boom, you're immediately on the Amazon page for that product. Need the Wikipedia page, it's !w. There's thousands of bangs, and if there are any that are missing, give them feedback.

Gotta remember that Google's "product" is you. That's what they sell. That's what makes them rich. Everything you submit to google everywhere, they monetize off it. Sick company.

Let me give some examples of the games I play. Disney's Magic Kingdoms, Playrix Township, The Room Two, Contract Killer, Traffic Rider, Paradise Bay, Looney Tunes Dash, etc. Have I been inadvertently sharing stuff? What kind could these games be sharing with their my lords ?

Google puts you in a bubble. Your results are not the results everyone else gets. The third results for you are the 30th for someone else. If your product isn't your 1st result on Google, you have a major problem, because Google personalized the results for you based on the 600+ pages of information they know about you. If they don't think you want to see your own website when you search for it, they probably don't think anybody ever wants to see it.

Read the article I posted, they are businesses and your data is money to them, they will sell it for profit, that's what bsuinesses do...
Read the article and it may open your eyes a little to the real world.

Oh yes, I knew we are all just customers in one way or the other, but the creepy extent is creeping.

on iOS third party apps/games can't get any of your data without giving the app permission to access it.

This is Google's attempt to wean itself off the cratering Desktop Search reliance it has.

Good idea, but for me....no thanks.

Gboard: conveniency at the expense of privacy. I'll pass.
ZZZZzzzz.
Here’s the thing. There are a lot of companies that purport not to share your data. Do you really believe though that they don’t buy data and statistical reports from those companies that do?
What am I saying - Well some of the market reseacrh that Apple does relies upon companies like Google. You know that right, they get some of the same info through the back door?

Surely the title should have been "Google debuts faster, easier way to mine your information and cash in!"

Depends on what lengths you go to to keep your information private and confidential. Certainly there always has been and will be companies buying and selling user data. But giving Google direct access to everything you type? No thanks, they're bad enough as it is.

Wow man, great article, thanks for the link. Wondering if a big company like The Pokémon Company does this kind of shady stuff with their Pokémon Shuffle app (the only game I have).

How is this any different from an Android keyboard? Anyone who has ever used Android has to accept the same conditions. I really liked the Google Keyboard on Android because it would learn my typing habits from my emails (gmail) and auto correct was super accurate for me - it really sped up my mobile use. I don't see that feature here with this keyboard but direct access to Google is very welcome because I use it a lot. I don't see a voice to text option on the keyboard - I use this frequently enough that this was disappointing. Disappointed to see that not every app I open up seems to honor the Keyboard preference order (I have GBoard at the top of Keyboards) on my iPhone. Seems pretty smooth and fast to me. Auto correct is working very well. Enjoying the automated emojis.

Anyone who uses Facebook should be worried far more than someone using this app in relation to privacy, imo. Facebook is a far worse violator of selling/violating personal information. And yes, I realize Google is selling my info but so far they're giving me things for it that I find incredibly useful (Drive, Email, Keep, Photos, Chrome, etc...) and it seems like they're doing a good job making sure it's anonymous for now.

I see the point people are making about privacy. I'm finally at a point in my life where I can afford things and the allure of moving to iCloud from Drive is strong... but the lack of features is really holding me back. Chrome works across my Microsoft and Mac devices, most friends/family I know use Hangouts, Photos has unlimited storage for my 76k+ photos (hobbyist), Drive allows concurrent editing of documents, etc...

Was going to try it out, until the narrator in the video pronounced GIF's the wrong way.:p

Actually, it looks really useful (security/tracking concerns aside).

Putting privacy concerns aside for a moment, this is by far the best third party keyboard I've used on iOS. The predictive text is on fire (gives me the feeling the power of Google is behind it). It's very easy on the eyes, which is often a complaint I have with the others. The swiping and overall user interface is just simple and easy to use. I think they've hit a a home run here. But... if you try to avoid Google seeing every letter you type, delete, retype, etc. in your browser, you probably won't want to use their keyboard.

As you both seem to be too lazy to read the article, I guess that's asking too much? Here's the first bit of it to highlight how wrong you are, how your happy iOS rainbow in the world of business and money doesn't exist:

I am a senior producer at a free to play games company. I have worked for several of the big name companies. It is almost certain you have or are playing a game I have produced or worked on in a major capacity.

This isn’t an article about the evils of free to play manipulation to get you to spend money. This is about how we can target you, because we (and our partners) know everything about you. We know where you live, we know your income level, we know your relationships, your favorite sports teams, your political preferences. We know when you go to work, and where you work. We can target an event to start for you when we know you have a long weekend coming up. We own you.

Now you can try and slander the site or interview, bearing in mind it's owned and run by Arn who owns and runs Mac Rumors, it's also considered one of the most revered and respected iOS games sites on the net and developers use it's forums, from big to small.
Or you can continue choosing to pretend iOS is safe and your data isn't collected and sold of whilst you use apps on it, your choice but you'll both be wrong.

Your bolded words express my situation exactly. Google's services are just better than Apple's. I'm willing to switch over to Apple once they can actually compete with what Google offers.
