Apple keyboard remembers the language used in each different conversation and swittches automatically. Google keyboards don't do that. I'll pass.

Interesting. I just noticed this with the thread with my wife's family. Took for granted how it changed the keyboard to Spanish every single time.

I d/l it on my 6S Plus and also my 5S (work phone) and iPad Pro, so far it only works on my 6S Plus and all phones have the latest iOS updates. D/L, go to settings, General, Keyboards, add keyboard, grant access and nada, zip. Thoughts on this for anyone who has run into the same issues?

I'm in the UK. Is it possible to acquire GBoard from the US store without screwing up my other apps/services?

I like it, when it works. Like there have mentioned, quite often on my iPhone 6s the stock keyboard shows up instead of Gboard. On my ipad Mini, running 9.3.3 beta(maybe this is why), the keyboard doesn't open the majority of the time. I get the top "suggestion bar" or whatever er it's called, but no keyboard.

Also, like mentioned, I hate that there's no dictation key. Is that a limitation of third party keyboards? Or do some offer it? Gboard is to first one I've really tried

Apple doesn't allow microphone access to 3rd party keyboards. Maybe this will change in iOS10, I don't know. But currently, no 3rd party keyboard has the ability to do dictation.

Thanks. That really sinks because I'm lobbing the swipe capability of Gboard, but hate not having dictation easily accessible. Appreciate the info though.

Google has a huge contingent of Apple lovers within its ranks. Deployed in special units they have created wonderful iOS software and services. My iPhone experience is enhanced significantly thanks to the creativity and innovation Google has delivered.

Google has some serious innovation pedigree. The only reason I don't like them is because they use me as a product to sell my information to others if I use their services as a customer. Backstabbing comes to mind.

It's a mixed bag.

I don't know anyone that's fond of the business model, but nothing's without compromise. Long before Google and the internet for that matter, was the governments hidden yet draconian surveillance practices. Within the Tech Sector only Apple has managed to create a warm fuzzy public image via Steve Jobs brilliant work in creating a cult like following.

Underneath this carefully crafted veneer Apple's still a fierce highly focused corporate entity.

True. Totally. Apple is not without its faults, and it is surely not Mother Teresa, but for most purposes, Apple is one of the few companies that actually treat customers right. I have been a fan of their approach to privacy. I have two Android phones in the family and I do not like why each and every app must have access to my contacts first thing, apart from almost every other thing they could possibly have access to. With Apple, if I download a weather app, it does not take permissions to access my contacts and camera, it just takes permission for location.

In November of 1991 I bought my first Apple laptop, the newly released PowerBook 170. Thoroughly impressed and quite enthused, two weeks later I replaced my desktop box with a Quadra 900. The unbridled joy continued as I decided to gamble, buying a boatload of Apple stock at $20 per share.

Every year since, I've refreshed these tools I use for both work and personal computing. So it's safe to say that my loyalty to Apple remains, even though now more than ever, I'm especially focused on maintaining a healthy scepticism of their corporate practices.

Conversely Google has had to gain my acceptance based purely on its usefulness. Far from complete trust, I remain vigilant in how I use Google Search, Google Apps and Services, as well as what I place in Google Drive, keeping all my personal data sequestered on my NAS equipped personal Mac Pro Server. None of my personal data is ever placed in any Cloud.

Going forward, the future promises to be especially interesting and never boring. Watching these two giants alone, will be very entertaining.

I've been using GBoard for a few days now. I really like it, but I would really rather Apple steal some of these features for the stock keyboard.

The biggest thing for me is the ability to slide on the space bar to move the cursor. This is the only thing keeping me from switching back to the stock keyboard.

Swipe is neat, but the predictive function doesn't work well with 4-letter words. And dammit, I need my swear words.

The search is also neat, but I don't find myself using it very much.

Maybe Apple will add the space bar slide and search into the stock keyboard in iOS10. We'll see.

EDIT - I noticed something interesting with this keyboard. Right now, I only have GBoard and the emoji keyboard active. I turned off the stock keyboard, so I cant even use it if I wanted to.

However, if I go into an app that has a password feature, the stock keyboard pops up and not GBoard. In fact, I can't even select a different keyboard if I wanted to.

lol

Have you ever heard of 3D touch text selection? The best thing on Apple's keyboard ever. The only thing that keeps me on stock keyboard.

I have heard of it, but I'm on an iPhone 6, so I don't have that feature. Not going to upgrade my phone just for a better stock keyboard, though.

been using swiftkey for a while. just installed this one today and i'll see how i like it. so far so good.

does the globe have to be there? i removed the other keyboards and would like a wider space bar.

This is a good keyboard actually. Like Swype, I disable full access and it works great. In GBoard you lose this search feature but the keyboard works great.

Swype still my favorite. The ENTER key is bigger, you have fast access to comma, dots, exclamation and question marks.

Gboard: conveniency at the expense of privacy. I'll pass.

You can turn on or off full access, so your statement is misleading and inaccurate. It's a great keyboard, swipe, and auto correct is incredible.. I cannot comment on some of the other features because I have full access turned off as I like my privacy.

I might try it out on my iPhone. Did you test it on your iPhone, or on your Air 2?

Wish this was true. I changed to DDG on both iOS and OS X. Unfortunately it just ... doesn't find what I'm looking for most of the time. I kept switching back to a Google search so often, I shrugged and just changed back.

DDG is great, but the results are not as complete as google...

So far so good. :)

For me I would like the keyboards letters to be bolder. Feedback sent. :)

Dark Mode as others have mentioned too.
