Oh **** no. I have removed all ****** (Goo.gle is offensive to me so I self censored the word. Had to as the forum does not do it automatically) traces from my iOS devices. I do not want that **** infecting my iOS devices. I feel a lot safer with all that **** very far away from my iOS devices.

I've been using Swype rather unhappily - it was a masterpiece on Android, and it just kinda sucks on iOS. Tried GBoard for one day yesterday, and it's at least no worse than Swype, and in many ways better. The built in search is helpful - it would be interesting to see if it could access information inside other applications like Evernote if given permission to do so, or bookmark specific sites to search such as Wikipedia. I have to say I'm really enjoying it a great deal.

Man - these key boards are great (WordFlow, GBoard) but Apple is weak from not allowing them to have the voice dictation and 3D Touch cursor...

they can do the 3D touch cursor... but it will only slide back and forwards. Flesky has this and it works great. Not sure why these new Keyboards from top companies leave these features out.

Apple disallows dictation on third party keyboards. As far as 3D Touch, I can only speculate, but I imagine it's not a feature most people use. Or it's not a feature these devs seem important.

As you both seem to be too lazy to read the article, I guess that's asking too much? Here's the first bit of it to highlight how wrong you are, how your happy iOS rainbow in the world of business and money doesn't exist:

I am a senior producer at a free to play games company. I have worked for several of the big name companies. It is almost certain you have or are playing a game I have produced or worked on in a major capacity.

This isn’t an article about the evils of free to play manipulation to get you to spend money. This is about how we can target you, because we (and our partners) know everything about you. We know where you live, we know your income level, we know your relationships, your favorite sports teams, your political preferences. We know when you go to work, and where you work. We can target an event to start for you when we know you have a long weekend coming up. We own you.

Now you can try and slander the site or interview, bearing in mind it's owned and run by Arn who owns and runs Mac Rumors, it's also considered one of the most revered and respected iOS games sites on the net and developers use it's forums, from big to small.
Or you can continue choosing to pretend iOS is safe and your data isn't collected and sold of whilst you use apps on it, your choice but you'll both be wrong.

I'm also a developer for iOS, although I don't' have any games. If I download an app and run the app and don't give it any permissions, and don't sign in with Facebook or anything, what data about me can the app get?

I don't know if a lot of people use the feature, but they should. Its one of those features that once you get used to you'll never go back, like 2 finger swipe to go back a page.

I used it for nearly a day and my only complaint is key accuracy issues.
The key touch zones are pretty tight. I find myself making more spelling errors with this keyboard vs stock Apple keyboard.

I wish the spacebar extends to the left a bit more. I'm used to the Apple keyboard so I keep missing the spacebar and increasing my typo percentage.

But great keyboard! I've used all the popular ones and this really is the best at prediction and auto correct.

This is really buggy. When I switch from iMessage to Viber/Safari it switches back to Apples keyboard.

I'm noticing this too. I'll set it on an iMessage thread, go to a different thread and it's back to the stock Apple Keyboard even though I have GBoard as the top keyboard.

"Voilà, Here is the Google Keyboard for the iOS. This is for sure going to make our jobs of data-mining way easier than we thought. We now know each and every word you type and search for. No Escaping guys. "

I really wish tinfoil hats and criminals would just self-identify. It would be a lot easier to figure out why I shouldn't trust x y or z. Of course, there are probably quite a few criminals in government, so earning one's trust should always be the default I suppose.

With this, I just figure if they really want to snoop, there's very little I can do to stop them as an individual. So using this app or not isn't going to make a huge difference.

I've used several third party keyboards, and I always end up going back to Swype. Not only does it have the now-standard swipe functionality, it has shortcuts to a lot of different symbols and numbers that can be accessed by holding down on the regular letter keys, or in some cases by swiping from the letter keys to the space bar, without having to switch to a separate symbols or numbers layout.

I like a lot of the functionality in this keyboard and Microsoft's Word Flow keyboard, but at the end of the day I prefer the symbol/numbers shortcuts. If they added those shortcuts into either of these keyboards, I'd switch for sure.

Read the article to get your answer because I can't remember what it says.

Thats talking about GBoard, most keyboard apps, for them to work you have to allow them access to everything, and they will obviously get information about everything you search. I'm talking about Apps in general. They only have access to the information you give them. So as my original post says 'No app can just get your information without you specifically giving them access to it'.

My comment and those replied were not about apps in general, because my post was about games. I'm pretty certain no one bothers to read any licenses that come with games and just get on and play them, and thus have agreed to all it's terms of use, you don't need to grant them access to anything. When was the last time you installed a game on iOS and you had to specifically agree to it's terms and grant it access to data to play it?

Since Apple allows third-party keyboard, does it still need to create its own advanced keyboard? Or is it enough that they allow others to fill in? Maybe one day (crosses fingers) Apple will allow us to specify other default apps.

Not in the best interest of Apple to have a popular keyboard where a Google logo is right at the top.

Also - you can't use voice dictation and the 3D touch cursor with the keyboards.

So the answer is yes - they should update theirs.

It's 2016 and you don't have flow typing?

Google today announced "Gboard," a new third-party keyboard application for iOS devices that directly integrates the company's search capabilities into an iPhone or iPad's keyboard. With the new Google button in Gboard, users can search for information, send what they find, discover GIFs, emojis, and more, without having to exit a messenger app to visit Safari or Chrome.

In its blog post, the company gives an example of someone needing to look up the address of a restaurant, normally forcing them to leave the app, perform a search in a mobile web browser, copy the address information, return to Messages, paste it, then send it off. With Gboard, Google hopes to streamline that process into a headache-free card system built around the smaller UI space required of third-party keyboards.
In addition to the basic search feature, Gboard lets users search for emojis -- unlike Apple's first-party keyboard -- by typing in key words like "dancer" to find the corresponding character. There's also a section that lets users browse and search for GIFs, and even glide typing for those who prefer sliding to text instead of tapping each key.

Google mentioned that Gboard "works in any app" with a keyboard, although it's available only in English within the United States at launch, with more languages planned soon. Those interested can download it from the App Store today for free. [Direct Link]

I'm using this. The one big thing that's missing is dictation either by siri or Google voice

I'm noticing this too. I'll set it on an iMessage thread, go to a different thread and it's back to the stock Apple Keyboard even though I have GBoard as the top keyboard.

That's by design. Each thread in iMesssage will remember the keyboard you were using and will default to that keyboard every time after, even if you were using a different keyboard in a different thread.
