Quick analogy... what is easier...?

1. Doing an extremely complex math problem yourself and coming up with the answer?
2. Have someone else just give you the answer?

Which approach do you think a typical consumer prefers? They choose convenience overwhelmingly. McDonald's doesn't make the tastiest food, yet they're wildly successful for being convenient.

The typical iPhone owner migrated to Apple because of the phone's UX, fashion, and prevalence. Those reasons may still be motivations but—and I predicted this earlier—consumers bore. They crave novelity. Tech devices will be judged on their ability to entertain or impress, not their virtues (security, privacy, etcetera). Sure, the latter should matter more but we're talking about consumer priorities.

Personally, I hope Apple continues to languish. Not so that Apple fails, but so that the iOS consumer explores alternatives.

You’re absolutely right. Human is lazy by nature.
That’s the same reason why many people use Apple. Because it’s more convenient to use that other.
