The human eye cannot see 90 Hz. I don't understand the push for increased refresh rate. No harm but who can tell the difference?

EDIT: People corrected me below and after research they are correct and I was wrong. Thanks - we can see the difference.

The Google event was held on the planet Earth. As a result, it is a fact that the camera on the Pixel 4 is not even 1 lightyear in distance away from the camera on the iPhone, so there’s no way it can be multiple lightyears AHEAD of the camera on the iPhone. There may be qualitative differences that make the Pixel 4 phone better in some respects, but ”relative distance from iPhones” is not really one of them.

And, you can bet they’re going to change that “instant”. :) Impressive for a demo, but even the Google employees at the event were wanting there to be a delay before just dropping you back into your last app. There’s actually a good reason why getting back to your phone on iOS requires a distinct additional step.

Oh yes it can be. If you live in the past, the future is light years ahead 💁🏻 Simple physics my dear.

Wish I had astro photography on the iPhone as well. 3 cameras and nothing good comes of them.

Will be looking to get a 4 XL for my work phone (have a 11 for daily driver) on black friday (Google typically gives large discounts at that point). But could see compared to the Android field its not a standout phone.

The thing I saw as a real disappointment for the Pixel 4 (and its future users) was that Google didn't increase battery capacity - in fact for the base model I believe they shrunk it and they were criticized for too small batteries for the 3 and 3 XL already.

Their main competition here in the U.S. is the Samsung S10 and S10 Plus. For the S10 Plus, as an example, the battery capacity is 4100mAh a good boost from the S9 Plus (and didn't win longest battery life awards). On the Pixel 4 XL with the same CPU, Google put in 3700mAh. I think the base model Pixel 4 has 2800 mAh battery. Yikes! Apple has improved battery life the last two years. So this is an area where Google corporate really missed something the industry is doing.

It appeared Google’s computational photography smarts have leapfrogged Apple’s again.

I was especially impressed by the presenter’s humble explanation of the methodology. I also agree that telephoto capabilities are underappreciated.

As awkward as most of the presentation was, I really liked the photography section with Prof Marc Levoy. He was really good and clearly passionate about his work. The camera shots looked amazing.

Loving the offline transcribing as well, that will be very useful.

I enjoy reading the salty, snarky comments on here. They clearly haven't bothered to read up on what they are critiquing. Probably the same people who accused Night Sight of being fakery...

So let's recap:
1. the camera on the Pixel 4 is lightyears ahead of the one on the iPhone.
2. The display is as well.
3. FaceID on Pixel is instant.
...and somehow, people here still find ways lie to themselves that the iphone's better. Amazing!

1. Yeah probably, but we’ll need to wait for the comparisons

2. Highly unlikely that the display is better, we only have info on the refresh rate and google’s track record to go by on that (okay at best OLED)

3. Face unlock is apparently only faster if the radar sensor can anticipate you reaching for it (ex. when it’s on a desk and you’re reaching for it). Taking it out of your pocket will likely not be noticeably different

4. The processor is lightyears behind iPhone and soon a year behind everyone else too

Like every year this phone will probably only shine because of the camera

What makes this a little confounding is that none of what Google is doing, as far as I can tell, is new. Not sure why Apple isn't making more of an effort to get ahead in this area.

The likes of MKBHD have been hyping it up as a "pro" feature that, apparently, is a must on current day flagships.

The human eye can very well see 90 or more Hz on a display. If you've ever used an iPad Pro with 120hz, you'll know the difference clearly noticeable. Everything is just much smoother with less ghosting and blur. I hope Apple finally adds 120Hz in the 2020 iPhone.

Well, this is an Apple centric site, so..... By the way, how many of these amazing Pixel 4's is Google going to sell? I don't think the 3 sold very well.

Honestly those Pixel Buds look amazing from a design factor. AirPods should looks like that instead of the comical long white shaft sticking out the ear.
Though I'm a bit concerned by the blue and red light rings they project on your head.

The camera bundle looks a lot like another phone recently released, is samsung going to do it next?

Ummm, just so you know other phones were released before the iphone with the square 3 camera design. Nothing more annoying on this forum then the "copying" comments especially when Apple copied the feature themselves.

I just dont understand their pricing on their Pixelbooks. $649 to start out is pretty steep; knock that back about $200 and my interested would pick up.

I stand corrected. There does appear to be one low quality study that suggests at least high end gamers can tell the difference in refresh rate. And this also supports that at least peripherally we can definitely tell the difference.

Are they serious with the top and bottom bezels?

I am long GOOGL, but they should stick to ads and data mining.

Ya not digging the phone design much either and I'm not sure what being a long GOOGL is, but ya, Google's only good at ads and data mining right? Not like they have created one of the top two smartphone operating systems and up until possibly the iphone 11 pro the best camera softwear (TBD with the pixel 4). Guess they also didn't create best maps application and phone assistant to date either?

Never hurts to be at least a bit objective right?
