So let's recap:
1. the camera on the Pixel 4 is lightyears ahead of the one on the iPhone.
2. The display is as well.
3. FaceID on Pixel is instant.
...and somehow, people here still find ways lie to themselves that the iphone's better. Amazing!
You can’t be serious. We don’t even know the full details on how their face unlock works, the cameras and screen haven’t been fully tested, and it’s all about software implementation in the end.

All I see is the 90hz screen being a nice update, but the screen has a giant forehead and chin.

FaceID on iPhone is basically instant too, and we know it’s secure and works.

The A13 is far ahead of the Snapdragon 855.

“iPhone XR and 11 have noticeable bezels”

-people: ew, it’s ugly!!!

“Pixel 4 has noticeable (huuuge) bezels”

-people: it’s OK.

Who's saying the bezels on the P4 look ok? Certainly nobody in this forum.

None of the bezels on any of those phones look good.

So, Soli is about as useful as I imagined it would be... 🙄

Interesting. The bezels are big, but then I'm not a fan of the iPhone bunny ears either, so it's a toss-up. Looking forward to seeing what the cameras are like. The Google Assistant being local and responding instantaneously could be a game changer for some tasks, like real-time translation or just using the phone via voice that is as fast as with your fingers.

Battery life is to be seen, but I'm not optimistic. I think 11 Pro phones are absolutely killing it this time around, with the Note 10+ not too far behind. Pixel 4 having 2,700mah and 4 XL 3,700mah, with 90Hz screens? Hmm...

The human eye cannot see 90 Hz. I don't understand the push for increased refresh rate. No harm but who can tell the difference?

Absolutely not true, it is quite noticeable actually. Motion is MUCH smoother at higher refresh rates. That's why 120Hz iPad exists, why 120-144Hz+ gaming monitors exist, and why more and more phones are including it.

Is it just me noticing this - is Google focusing on the rear of the Pixel 4 because they realize the forehead on the screen look HORRIBLE? I mean it’s really really bad, made worse by having the curve of the screen like they do, as it impinges on the usable screen area even more. I totally get that they needed to put the camera and sensors somewhere, but this ”new” device looks like it was designed years ago before people figured out how to incorporate these things into the overall design of a phone.

I would rather see them separate out the top sensor area, maybe step it back or add a bump to it, so it doesn’t look like it’s just a black hole of area between the screen and the top of the phone.

Thank goodness I didn’t bother watching the whole presentation, because for what I did see it felt like they were releasing devices not because they had something new and exciting to offer, but because everyone else has been and they needed to get in on the action. Yikes Google.

Why would anyone buy Google products they will abandon in 2-3 yrs just like they always do?
You know, this is a good point. I mean, the radar thing is what they think is cool today, but is it something they plan to keep
Oh yes it can be. If you live in the past, the future is light years ahead 💁🏻 Simple physics my dear.

Wish I had astro photography on the iPhone as well. 3 cameras and nothing good comes of them.
Do you have an iPhone 11? If so, you should try taking tripod mounted photos of the night sky. Unlike the Pixel, it’s not a “mode”.

If you don’t have an iPhone 11, then yes, it would be nice to have astrophotography on your old iPhone.

The camera bundle looks a lot like another phone recently released, is samsung going to do it next?

Honestly it looks like they saw those awful early leaked renders of the iPhone 11 and decided to copy them. iPhone 11 Pro's camera bulge is divisive but at least Apple put some effort in to its design - I like it.

P-Oled...please, why?? 90hz is fine and i wish apple will start from 2020, since they lace a good battery in the iphone now...to include promotion...but why p-oled?? samsung always are the best for oleds
Face unlock without a gesture....its making the notifications be irrelevant ..a lot of times i want just to see the notification without entering into the home screen
2800mah is too little for an 90hz display....i think this one will have less battery life than normal note 10

Light years better? What? iPhone pro has a better camera right now until proven otherwise

Display is? Based on what? Pixel screens have always had issues

Face unlock is instant? Great so is iris scanner does it make it secure? No... that remains to be seen

So yes iPhone is still better by a long shot

Pixel 4 has no ultra wide and can’t even record 4K at 60...hell the front facing camera on the 11 is better than the pixel normal camera at recording

Pixel hardware remains poor but here’s a reason why nobody buys them

No 4K 60
No ultra wide

Hell the iPhone 11 has better front facing video than anything pixel has

Motion features just seem like gimmicks to me but each their own

Overall it seems the pixel will continue to sell badly
To be fair I think the pixel will always be a niche phone, even if it had added an ultra wide camera. I’m sure the back camera will be good and the new google assistant features sound good. I agree the motion sensor feature do sound like gimmicks and I couldn’t care less about the front facing camera on any phone.

However I’m just not interested in a pixel phone. I never have been and I don’t think I ever will. This phone has done nothing to change my mind.

I'll be waiting for the camera comparisons on YT. All these flagship phones are pretty good, video quality is what separates them IMO...

Google ditched LG POLED displays.
The 4 uses Samsung OLED panels.

Displaymate just released their analysis. (Which I'm sure will be deemed irrelevant or arbitrary, since it's not an Apple device being tested)

Some highlights...

Honestly those Pixel Buds look amazing from a design factor. AirPods should looks like that instead of the comical long white shaft sticking out the ear.
Hopefully we’ll get AirPods Pro soon with the rumored “all-new design.”

I too wondered what the hoopla was until I used a high refresh motion display at Best Buy not long ago. I actually used a Razer Blade 15" laptop (144Hz refresh rate), so I got to see it on a display much larger than a phone screen.

You absolutely can tell a difference. It's amazing. Everything is just smooth, like silk. It almost looks like things are traveling in fast motion. Try this little experiment (on a PC): take your mouse cursor and slowly move it all the way to the left side of the screen, and then all the way to the right side of the screen, keeping your eyes on the cursor itself. Notice how it's blurry? Its clear on high refresh displays. You can try the same experiment on a phone by slowly, in one long swipe, scrolling down a webpage while keeping your finger on the display. See how the words are blurry until you stop, even if you're keeping your eyes on the same line? Higher refresh rates would make that blurry line clear(er). 90Hz is not nearly the step up that 144Hz is like in my example, but the point is that the different is absolutely noticeable.

That two-done color scheme looks delicious.

I think the display tech in this is very exciting. It is clear that this phone has some advantages over other flagships, and isn't as good in other respects. In some areas it leads, in others it follows. I'll never understand why we always have to have a subset of people, with every release, that has to make binary declarations about the new phone being magnificent or garbage. The flagships are all very good, each excelling in certain ways.

I don't think I want to buy this, but I want to play with it for sure.

The pixel is the only Android phone to consider, IMO, if you want reliable software updates.

I was looking forward to the pixel 4, but at $800 I can get an 11 with 128 GB and have $50 left over. The radar gestures seem like a gimmick to me that adds needlessly to cost and complexity.

I wouldn't get the first iteration of android 3d face recognition for the same reason I wouldn't get the first iteration of Face ID. I bet it will be finicky, but would be pleased to be proved wrong.

I'm looking forward to the pixel camera samples but I think Apple has stepped up their game here, eliminating much of the gap between performance. Apple's high frame rate and high resolution camera capabilities are no joke, especially with HDR+.

90Hz screen is nice. That orange color is great, too. But overall I was hoping for a cheaper phone with less gimmicks. But that might just be my exhaustion with Android setting in.

This camera setup actually looks nice compared to the iPhone. I'd take conduction stove setup over dated gas stove setup.

Much less douchey than the droopy cigarette butts and may even be fashionable to some without the side effects of stretched ear lobe and reconstructive surgery later.
