Hopefully Siri has some new voices too. I hate the current ones (especially the British ones).

Think the majority of new features will be announced at WWDC. For now good if these additions will be enabled as soon as possible.

I really hope this means I finally get to use Siri in my native language (Slovak). We still don’t have support (Siri launched in 2011).

This is a big deal if it actually happens, but I’m afraid they will again neuter the LLM by supporting the same languages the old Siri supports :(

I don’t understand how Siri is the only AI that is language constrained and none talks about it.

So what about privacy? I trust Apple to safeguard privacy (well as much as I trust any company) but I don't with Google. Are they going to be collecting the data that is shared with Siri? Is this the model being hosted by Apple or will it be run on Google servers?

That was already outlined in the Apple Intelligence announcement, I don’t see why it would have changed since then, but we’ll see.

Apple is dead since it's completely lost the AI competition.

Anyone who understands even a little about progress, business, marketing, innovation, and transhumanism will know that it's a fact since 2023.

Even Midjourney, Adobe and OpenAI which belong to the strongest pioneers are lost now and will not be able to catch up anymore.

Google has Maps, Photos, Youtube and more data than anyone else.

We don't "google it" or "photoshop it" anymore, it's all done with a prompt since End of 2025.

Google = AI, and very soon there will be a new unique word for this company and the way we live digitally.

Is anything mentioned in article really connected to promised "deeper per-app controls"?
There’s what the article says, vs what they actually do. Many “controls” are rapidly being taken from us.

The frenetic pace of the major AI players and their recent reveals as I witnessed at CES 2026, is cause for concern for anyone who both understands and cares about their privacy.

Control over our smartphones is rapidly changing, in many instances without any concern for what the buyers want. An example is Apple removing our ability to turn our phones off completely.

In settings there's a choice called "shut down" yet that is a misnomer, when toggling that switch it only partially shuts down ones iPhone. Because the battery is not removable there's no way to turn off your phone. As such, one's phone can be easily tracked even though some would argue Apple doesn't track users.

Today more than ever, it’s buyer beware. Those who fail to read the terms and conditions, as well as privacy policies of various manufacturers and developers are choosing to be uninformed and operate in the dark.

Apple and Google this week announced that Gemini will help power a more personalized Siri, and The Information has provided more details.

iOS-18-Siri-Personal-Context.jpg

As soon as this spring, the report said the revamped version of Siri will be able to…

  • Answer more factual/world knowledge questions in a conversational manner
  • Tell more stories
    Provide emotional support
  • Assist with more tasks, such as booking travel
  • Create a document in the Notes app with information, such as a cooking recipe
The report said Apple plans to announce additional Siri capabilities at WWDC in June, including…
  • Knowledge of past conversations
  • Proactive suggestions based on information from apps, such as Calendar
Apple already announced that the personalized Siri would have better understanding of a user's personal context, on-screen awareness, and deeper per-app controls, so a lot of the specific capabilities that the report said are coming would align with that.

For example, Apple showed an iPhone user asking Siri about their mother's flight and lunch reservation plans based on info from the Mail and Messages apps.

The report said that the latest prototype of the more personalized Siri does not have any Google or Gemini branding, and Apple will be able to fine-tune Gemini's model to ensure that Siri responds to queries in a way that the iPhone maker prefers.

More details are available in The Information's paywalled report.

Apple first previewed the more personalized Siri at WWDC 2024, and the revamped assistant is finally expected to launch as part of iOS 26.4 in March or April. However, according to the report, some capabilities will not arrive until iOS 27.

Let me put your mind at ease. What Apple have done is licence what is called a ‘distillation’ from Google. This is an optimised copy of an LLM, produced by the original model of its knowledge and capabilities at a certain time. Distillations can be controlled to include and exclude certain features and parameters.

This distillation of Gemini has been copied to and is running on Apple’s own Private Cloud Compute servers. Nothing is being sent to or from Google, only that they chose Google’s model to power Siri. This is likely due to the long-running partnership between the two companies going back to Google Maps on the original iPhone. For a conservative company like Apple it is also the least controversial option too.

Think of it as Apple building a car but outsourcing the engine and drivetrain to Google.

However distillation is not without privacy risks.

When using data augmentation to create large datasets for distillation, the generated data may inadvertently expose or replicate private information from the original limited private data, raising concerns about the privacy guarantees of the resulting student model.

In the context of machine learning, distillation poses significant privacy risks, as the smaller "student" models or synthesized datasets can inadvertently leak sensitive information about the original, private training data of the "teacher" model. These risks stem from potential vulnerabilities.

That's a good question, I wonder how Apple is going to handle that, or whether we can actually believe what Apple tell us.

For us non-Americans, the sinister side is that these "conversations" with Siri could be forwarded directly to the CIA and other US Govt agencies if we mention certain keywords or express certain opinions, with the result that, should we be so foolish as to visit the US for any reason at all, we will find ourselves locked away and isolated in an ICE detention centre. (As you will know, tourism and business travel to the US is down for obvious reasons.)

I wonder if the emotional support will be for how 'bolted on' this will be after waiting years for it. I also wonder if it will provide emotional support for the liquid glass theme.

Now we’re talking about features being delayed to 2027? Ones that were discussed in 2024 WWDC? Lmao.

With Apple just finalizing this deal, it's going to be interesting to see how well the Gemini models will run on years old hardware like the iPhone 15 Pro, that was previously designed with Apple's own model in mind. It'll also be interesting to see how much of Siri will need an active internet connection to actually work.

Seriously, after all these years Siri not capable of executing simple tasks the first feature will be the emotional support? I suppose this is for people who got neurosis because of Siri being so dumb?

Haha you're not depressed you just want that new MacBook that you probably couldn't afford.
