Now we’re talking about features being delayed to 2027? Ones that were discussed in 2024 WWDC? Lmao.
When it comes to software, unless it comes straight from the mouth of Apple it’s all just rubbish.

Look at the creative bundle from yesterday. No rumours or anything.

I feel like we are in that part of the movie where a blockbuster cancer drug is about to be released on an unsuspecting public that will eventually turn us all into aimless zombies, just infecting each other with a genetic mutation that strips us of all our humanity and ability to function as anything other than a brainstem on two feet.

But hey, Siri can suggest a cool sandwich shop I should take my mom to after her plane lands...so it's kinda worth it?

I just hope context awareness isn't then limited to he iPhone shipping in September. I still distinctly remember one of the major sales arguments for the iPhone 16Pro was the fact it was Apple Intelligence ready...

AI that works across contexts like LLM would be great, especially if and when it has the ability to do things on your phone.

But I worry that Apple is too focused on creating cute, PG functionality that won't make the AI assistant very useful across multiple contexts.

I hope I'm wrong.

Me getting emotional support from Siri after a long day hammering Siri on Macrumors

a man wearing glasses is smiling and looking at the camera

The emotional support will be beneficial to a ton of users. Hoping we can rename Siri to something else. Record a new trigger.

How about useful stuff like Siri turn x light 💡 when motion is detected in the living room. Or Siri play x on my Apple TV, or anything other then gimmicky stuff please

So, as a developer, Apple is telling me "Don't write AI code with the current Foundation Models without telling me to not to write AI code with the current Foundation Models." A new SDK based on Gemini Siri is coming…

This is the same exact thing that happened with the first Apple Watch SDK. Anyone remember "glances?"

It’s funny how Dell realized that people aren’t buying “Ai” PCs causing them to backtrack a bring back the XPS line. Meanwhile, Apple is rushing headfirst into it.
I think also because Microsoft’s implementation of AI has been - surprise surprise - absolutely awful.

For a product company Microsoft are awful at creating products.

  • Answer more factual/world knowledge questions in a conversational manner
  • Tell more stories
    Provide emotional support
  • Assist with more tasks, such as booking travel
  • Create a document in the Notes app with information, such as a cooking recipe
The report said Apple plans to announce additional Siri capabilities at WWDC in June, including…
  • Knowledge of past conversations
  • Proactive suggestions based on information from apps, such as Calendar
Aside from the first bullet point (assuming it means NOT directing me to a website for 90% of queries), they are missing the boat on what I’ve always wanted from Siri.

All I ever wanted was for Siri to be able to handle requests I make of functionality already in the phone, including things like changing all manner of settings by simply asking it to. I’m talking about functionality that Apple natively put in the device. That they neglected to make Siri handle it cleanly, punted on Siri support and instead gave us “Shortcuts” is the reason Siri sucks so freaking much, IMHO. I’m guessing I still won’t be able to ask Siri to do something like “connect to VPN” without a Shortcut, but Hey! At least Siri can tell me story.

As soon as this spring, the report said the revamped version of Siri will be able to…

Are there any other 50 or 60-something AI researchers/ex-researchers here? I can't imagine that there's a single AI researcher working in those early days or the couple of decades afterwards who, on reading the above, didn't immediately think "Eliza" (Joseph Weizenbaum at MIT in the 1960s).

Apple is dead since it's completely lost the AI competition.

Anyone who understands even a little about progress, business, marketing, innovation, and transhumanism will know that it's a fact since 2023.

Even Midjourney, Adobe and OpenAI which belong to the strongest pioneers are lost now and will not be able to catch up anymore.

Google has Maps, Photos, Youtube and more data than anyone else.

We don't "google it" or "photoshop it" anymore, it's all done with a prompt since End of 2025.

Google = AI, and very soon there will be a new unique word for this company and the way we live digitally.
Your post is fantastic and sounds like hyperbole but I 100% agree with you.

What we have with the Gemini deal is a situation to Apple becoming something like Samsung.

Ie where it has great hardware but on the software side, it has become so far behind that it has to use android & then it writes its own UI, launcher and apps on top of it, with Apple fans still counting this as a ‘win’.

Maybe agi upper intelligence is going to happen in the next decade. Maybe not.

But it’s clear that the following is going to happen & is happening:

- agentic business solutions & agentic e-commerce.

- ai’s which understand the physical environment as good or near enough as good thus unlocking sci fi robotics that can work in manufacturing and in in the public environment. Oh and be self driving vehicles.

- ais which are so advanced that they research medical and other scientific issues etc.

Obviously a lot of this is already happening.

And whoever has an ai which can do all of this, will become an industrial powerhouse operating across many sectors and will make a $4tn market cap valuation seem like peanuts.

Hint: the US companies who are going to be major players in the above are Google, nvidia Amazon (& m a y b e the musk group of companies, as they own major components of the secret sauce which they keep on making better and better.

Not Apple.

Finally, it’s annoying that I keep on reading this as Apple ‘winning’ over Google.

Google likely gets money for this, likely reducing their search engine bill to Apple and increasing the amount of GCS capacity that Apple buys from Google.

Google also stops OpenAI from being on the iPhone.

Gemini will now be powering the ai assistant on every major non Chinese owned smartphone brand.

So Apple has got a short term victory. But it’s going to be a miracle if they win the war.

You guys read "emotional support" and thought "iPhones want to be psychologists now".
That's surely not the case at all. There are different kinds and levels to it.
You may ask for emotional support to professionals but also friends, forums, chats, websites, books, pets and more. Some people ask AI: it really feels like talking to somebody and I think it's fine if it's programmed to stay in its lane and recommends a professional for anything serious.

Take the case "Siri, I'm feeling blue". What would you prefer:
- Compassionate suggestions + recommending a professional if it's frequent
- Sorry, I' can't help you with that
