I guess the lowkey jab at Apple during the RCS section is confirmation that we wont get RCS any time soon, considering Google would surely be in talks with them about RCS implementations by now if it were to happen with iOS 16.

See you next year.

I'm just here to say whoever directed the product photography, too, was given instructions to look like apple. the products on a grid from that sort of perspective

The iPad is a solid product line and, I'd argue, the only one for which there isn't a 100% viable competitor. I applaud Google's efforts to try to compete in this space. I wish more tech companies bothered to try here.

Glad to see Google is stepping up their competitive game. The Pixel Watch sounds like Google lifted the best parts of the Apple Watch to bring to the Android ecosystem. With built in fitness tracking by Fitbit, I wonder where this leaves the other Fitbit smart watches?

A round digital watch is great.
I thought so too, and from an aesthetic standpoint it certainly is because we are used to it.
After using the Apple Watch for quite a bit now however, from a functional angle I cannot see that a round UI would work well to display text, be it for messages, notifications, or even the training reports. Text would have to be line wrapped a lot, and scrolling would not really work well.

I’m actually liking the Pixel Watch.

I suspect this a direction consumers want other than just a ‘square version’. I’d love a round version of the Apple Watch, and diversity creates a larger demographic for the consumer.
Why do you suspect that? the apple watch sees great sales figures while every other round smart watch has failed miserably. Consumers seem to be voting with their wallets as to which direction they are happy with for years.

It will be interesting to see what the watch is like, from the videos and images the bezel looks like a thiccc boi. It also looks like it only comes in a small size which looks a little odd on larger wrists.

Looks a little small here:

Look at those thiccccc bezels ?

It’ll be interesting to see the price of the watches, Apples stainless steel prices are a disgrace when compared to other watches.

The pixel watches are all stainless steel so if they price them right then they’ll be a winner for Android users.

The watch looked really nice I have to say. I don't find the Apple Watch to be comfortable at all. I have a series 4 and the sharp edge round the base where the heart sensors are digs into my skin after a while. If the Google watch works with iPhone and has reliable ECG it may be worth a gander.
Also I have to say in regards to software Google was announcing things light years ahead of Apple in regards to innovations. It's a shame as Apple hardware generally is really good, its software is simple and easy to use. But their just isn't much innovating? I appreciate they spent a few years developing their own processors which is innovative, but they seem to have ignored software.
It will certainly be interesting to see how Google develops its more tablet specific OS, compared to Apple. With any luck it'll make Apple get of their lazy backsides and give the iPad OS more features.

With anti trust cases against  around the world. What confounds me is Giggle receives none. I consider myself an  loyalist however I love embracing technology. A negative about Google is software updates. My Nokia/HMD XR20, released in the second half of last year was promised Android 12 update soon after release. I checked again today - last security update, '5 December 2021' and still on Adenoids 11. Nokia 6.1, not that a vintage phone by Apple's standards, last update, 21 April 2021 and on Steroids 10. Google Pixel 6 had Android 12 installed when I purchased it.  allow customers' OS to remain current for longer.

Moto 360 had a round design way back in 2014, and a lot of other Android-based smart watches has been released since.
It seems like Google has not been that successful with their Wear OS and other companies hardware, but maybe it will take of more when they put their brand on it.

They all copy each other, it's just who does it better to debate over. I am glad for Google bringing the competition to Apple. The watch and ear buds look very nice, I wonder how much information they collect and monetize?

Actually not much, they went to extreme lengths to discuss privacy several times, a few of the new features announced they said were processed on the device only.

Is this a joke? You can already copy data between them. Copy and paste if you want. I guess you need to be more specific because this doesn’t sound new.

If I remember they copied something on a tablet, and just pasted it in a phone, doing so the exact same way you would on the same device, just press and hold select copy, go to other device press and hold and select paste. No messing about. Something like that I think?

Well... a lot of people seem to be loving the new 15" Samsung tablet, and if Google have now finally started making its Android OS tablet specific, it can easily surpass Apples iPad OS in terms of features, hell if they face it a file explorer by default it bears iPad OS. I'm a fan of the iPad Pro, use mine everyday, I don't want an Android tablet but I do really appreciate the competition to make Apple do something more special with iPad OS and use that M1 chip to its fullest.

God that phone design looks cheap and awful. Seems like Google wants to take the crown from Microsoft for the worst industrial design on the planet. As for the watch, yeah it's round, I wonder how long it took them to think of that. Real competition for Apple would be a good thing but this is just depressing.

The software side was definitely more interesting. If we get anything from Apple beyond "We're still running what looks like iOS7' i'll be amazed.

The watch looks nice. Its a shame we didn't see Google resurrect the Pebble (brought by Fotbit in 2016) as a 'time/steps/pay' cheaper watch. I had the Pebble Time and the thing was indestructable to the point it was like a piece of classic Nintendo hardware. That glass dome looks doorframe unfriendly, much like Apples.

The tablet is a nice suprise but a play for Amazon's end of the market. I do hope those redesigned tablet GApps make their way to the iPad though.

Also worth noting is Google’s privacy claims, mirroring what Apple already has in place.

Every year I enjoy I/O and consider getting a Pixel just to mess around with. Then I remember what a cesspool the android app landscape is.

I have to say I really like the designs; especially that light green.
I still prefer the iPhone but if I had to have an android phone on the side, it would be a Pixel 6/7.
The Pixel Watch looks better than the Apple Watch, however the circular screen and the thick bexels will probably be an ergonomic nightmare.

Looks like they have some impressive products and services coming up. Google in some ways has been a bit ahead of Apple, especially in the AI department.

as someone who wears the apple watch on right wrist I can imagine how many times I'll accidently press the cross on the samsung watch...

If the Pixel tablet is 10”-11” OLED, 120hz and under £700, I would drop my iPad Pro for one happily.

Android 13 is fantastic and even on a phone, it’s more Pro than ipadOS
