I'm turning into a real Google/Android/Nexus fan. But I honestly can't see the point in this. $1300 for a device that just lets you connect to the Internet? I may as well buy a 128GB iPad4 and add a Bluetooth keyboard for that much.

I understand Google's push to cloud based computing, but this price just isn't going to get it there.

If you want people to buy your cloud based services, you need to provide them with inexpensive hardware up front. The Nexus 4 and Nexus 7 are great examples of this as is the original $250 Google Chromebook. The Chromebook Pixel? Not so much.

If I'm going to spend $1300 I want an actual computer and not a thin client.

Evidence?

Really? How about the fact they created a new category all together to ensure success but still managed not to secure it.

How about the fact that they kept altering the ad agreements to try and get more advertisers and/or to keep them

But I'm not going to get into this discussion with you. It's futile. I know this routine well. Suffice to say - you have your opinion. I have mine. And over 20 years experience in marketing and PR are perhaps to my advantage as it's the industry I'm in.

Apple would like nothing more that for iAds to be a HUGE revenue stream. And that "indicates" they are interested in the ad game.

This has to be the stupidest machine I have ever seen. I literally think IQ points have dropped sharply at Google.... and for anyone that buys this joke. I normally believe in choice and to each there own.... and not to judge, but not this time. This is in fact stupid, and anyone that buys it is retarded.

Macbook Airs are overpriced but at least they give you a full operating system. This is literally paying $1300 for a glorified web browser.

Not gonna lie to myself despite my preference of Apple... I think it looks pretty good. That said... I really want to see Google Fanboys defend this one, lacking hardware that is more expensive than Apples?!?

Everyone is pretty much following Apple now... I mean from the product, to packaging, to advertising and everything in between. Guess what they say is true, copying is the best form of flattery.

I'm sure you'll be able to install ubuntu on it.

But even then - you can get better specs for less if that's what you plan on doing...

So...

Can you run Photoshop CS6 on it ?

Or..

Can you run World Of Warcraft on it ? Even at low fps ? ( for the naysayers )

How about Microsoft Office 11 ?

How long does it take to transcode a 1080 video ?

*cough* *cough*

:)

No one can justify a $1300 notebook for the mass these days.

Niche markets like web/art/graphic/gaming developers and designers could, but the specs the Pixel packs none of the hardware they would want. They should've made more build to order options starting at $499 and up. Either way, its google, so they can afford multi-million dollar mistakes (googleTV anyone?).

I'm not questioning that iAd was not as successful as Apple hoped.

I'm not questioning that they hoped to bring in a lot of revenue.

Blah Blah Blah

Sure. But that's hardly puts them in the same position as Google.

It's the same thing with darker metal.

It's not 16:10 or even 16:9 ratio. It looks square. Like the old Compaq laptops.

I agree they've copied the aluminum and black theme the Macs use.

The whole industry does and Intel even made a platform from knocking off the Air.

If people think Apple has lost it's innovation all they have to do is read this thread.

No, it's LITERALLY paying $1300 for a PC that can only use a web browser. The web browser itself is free on any PC.

This is sad and pathetic, the reason why i say this is because the keynote speech sounds something of an apple signature like the maddeningly remark that it has the most sharpest screen on the laptop market how can they get off saying that. Yet I admire Googles attempt to enter the PC market. But this ultra book which is aimed to compete against our beloved air is not of my taste,it has hinges like a door, the touch screen will get full of my grubby fingerprints, and the fancy lights at the front, well just don't speak to me like the halo Apple.

But what worry's me is the court infringements Apple may take, or a most worst case a new generation of users spawning and acting childish like the rivalry between Android and IOS or Windows and OSX.

I also hate how many PC companies like HPs Envy have taken Apples design and used it to their advantage. Sadly it makes the Apple less unique since Jobs announced that they will oust the plastic for aluminium.

The shape too. All the details on the keyboard, the bezels, the opening mechanism... It's the same thing but squished with darker metal and a black trackpad. But the back looks different.

Surely this is a joke... I know imitation is the sincerest form of flattery but that was ridiculous. Have Google no shame in producing a video like that?
At first I thought it was an Onion Video because it is so similar to an Apple hardware video.

Besides, it looks like the Power Books from around 2002 with their very square design. Way to go google, you're only 10 years behind in design.

I still can't believe that was a real video. Somebody is going to pop out and yell "gotcha", aren't they?
