I really just cannot get my head around this product at all. I own the £200 Acer C7 Chromebook... And it does the job of WEB-SURFING, and web-surfing alone. That is what Chrome-OS is, and that is what the Chromebook's were set out to do & be. I just cannot see the appeal in having a £1000 oversized netbook. It's just totally fried my head. I do not understand it, at all.

Either Google has something incredible lined up to coincide with this laptop or they just smoked too much of the green stuff in the office that day.

Epic Fail!
1300 US$ and you can't install Steam to play games! The only thing to make this the real bizarro world would be if the GOOG stock jumps to 850$ because of this.

I get this from market reports. Android share in smart phones right now is around 70% (started from 0%). iPad's share down from 90% to about 50% and dropping fast.

I keep reading the opposite. I wonder if Android devices are counted as sold when shipped to the reseller or when actually sold to a client.

Also, some countries with low income population may just be able to afford the low price Android devices. And considering than most Android phones are given away for pennies, it's possible...

But this doesn't mean that iOS devices are going down the drain.
Each device has developed its own market.

This is a horrible computer. It does nothing other than be a glorified browser. Only use for it is for bloggers who does everything online, and for trips to China. Maybe it'll be useful for corporate employees who have limited IT use, who don't want employees to install software, but even then it's probably better to just get an Android tablet, iPad with a keyboard attachment, or Surface RT.

iAd is more of a way to help software developers offer software for free without having the ugliness of mobile google ads. It's definitely something they haven't really taken seriously.

No - you're wrong. iAds was Apple's way of breaking into the advertising market. Not for the benefit of developers. Seriously? Is that what you think?

The whole mobile ads being ugly, etc are all smoke and mirrors. It's Apple marketing.

And Apple didn't take it seriously? They spend a good amount of money and "air time" that state otherwise.

Again - just because it wasn't/isn't successful doesn't mean they weren't gunning for the same success. They just (to date) have failed at it.

The likelihood of someone at google stealing your work from it being on their server is as likely as someone breaking into your home and taking your computer. Or someone hacking your account online and grabbing it from your emails or whatnot.

There are hundreds of companies that have their data in the cloud. Are you implying corporations are safer than individuals when it comes to data theft?

Your private data feels safer when it is physically in your own room. You feel as if you have direct control of who is accessing it. Whether this is or is not actually the case is a different matter.

Yap, because when Jobs presented it and said that they will have 50% of the ads sahre in less than a year was because it was a hobby

OK, I've gotta say, I think at the MSRP at least this thing isn't going to fly (we'll see what stores actually sell it for though, eh?), but it's not like Apple hasn't had missteps like the Q

Remember this?

It almost looks like they gave up during the CNC process...Jony Ive: "We started with a solid block of aluminium"... Google" And we will keep it at that"

A little further and it's a complete Unibody knockoff! It looks like a cheap version of anodised aluminium though

They even copied the info page of the baclkit keyboard and completley stole the "glass trackpad"!

To think, people will actually buy this and still say Mac's are expensive for specs

That's an absolutely sickening Apple mockup presentation. Bit like the Sony PS4 show last night, everything has gone Jobs circa 2005ish presentation, down to the hyperbole, camera bias, lighting, word weight, delivery.. come on guys, if you want to beat Apple, find your own way, this looks way weak.

I am not a zealot at all, I'm all ears but when you rip something off this blatantly, you are not doing yourself any favors.

$299.95

Great at $299...not at brick and mortor stores probably so you buy without trying first? POOR MARKETING AT BEST...overpriced at best.

The only logical question about Pixel is "why would a successful company build a product that is entirely illogical and entirely unsellable"?

Everyone I know that has used a Windows 8 laptop with a touch screen loves the touch interface. It's not a you must use the touch all the time thing it is a reaching up and touching an icon is sometimes faster and more natural feeling than using the touch pad.

uhmmm no. SSD are getting cheaper everyday. Besides Apple made a good choice of removing physical drive, it's prone to mechanical breakdown and take up too much space. I'd rather have bigger battery. When was the last time you bought CD's or DVD's? Google chrome book has nothing and still get 5 hrs battery? POS

The price is expensive, yes, but Chrome OS hasn't required an 'always-on' Internet connection for quite a long time now.

And this is a problem for Google because without an internet connection, people can't use search or Google Services. Meaning they make no money and basically gave away their OS for free as a charity.

This is the same problem they're having with Android

The mistake in that logic is that Apple would love to be as successful with iAds as Google is. They just aren't. Just because they aren't as successful doesn't make the motives of both companies different.

I've never seen any indication that Apple would love to be in the advertising business. Like most of their services, iAd was most likely meant to be a driver for hardware sales by attempting to increase the revenues for iOS developers that choose to use advertising. (The swipe at Google was probably also a factor. :)) The also sought to increase the quality of iOS advertising.

For a moment, I thought it was some kind of MacBook Pro running Chrome OS.

Do you reckon that Apple paid Google to design a computer that would make the 13 inch RMBP look inexpensive?
