You mean 5 back.

This wearable from Google is laughable.

As usual, these tech companies need Apple to show them how to create a new product and how to do it correctly.

You mean the iWatch that has been rumored for years but nothing has ever been released?!

Been watching the Google I/O - They really have excelled themselves this year.

I hate to say it, but after watching the I/O, it makes it appear Apple take 1 step forward but then take 3 steps back.

Why would you hate to say it when you seem to love coming here to bash Apple? ;)

I’ve got a couple of friends/tech colleagues at IO that I’ll probably catch up with later this evening - I’ll be curious to hear their take on everything. Smart, been in the industry a long time like myself, hip to tech trends, and pretty open in terms of the originating source of the tech (though they both happen to use Macs :) ).

this is why i visit this site less.. it seems like more members are becoming so close minded when it comes to competition. just because it's not from apple.. it's automatically a joke?

Tiny screen = baby OS, baby software, baby product.

The last time we were reminded of this decades-old truth, it was 2007 when the iPhone showed what a huge difference a large display and great UI can make. The next lesson will be in fall with Apple and iWatch again reminding everyone it's all about software and user experience enabled by a screen with such dimensions that can breath room, context and easy navigation into each and every app.

Some companies seem to never learn!

I don't get the fascination with wearables. Is real life not interesting enough? Just strikes me as a modern geek way to isolate oneself. I think they'll be a fringe market for quite some time but the true believers will not be dissuaded.

Sp you mean iPhone's tiny screen = baby software and is baby product... I get you... Nice played

And you really think iWatch gonna feature huge screen?

You heard it here first, the iWatch is going to be more of a standalone device rather than being tethered to a smartphone like what Google is presenting.

Remember this is a new product category and we have to think of it in terms of iPod/iPhone/iPad caliber. Looking at those 3 devices, not any one device is dependent on another to use its core functions.

Android Wear being dependent on your smartphone does not feel like a new product category. Like what Steve Jobs have always said, it needs to be like magic!

I definitely agree with this... the problem we've seen with all the smartwatches thus far is their complete and utter reliance on having a smartphone nearby. Like the original iPod, it's find to rely on another device (in that case a computer) for some stuff (loading songs and managing playlists), but at the end of the day, it needs to stand on its own.

Have the watch automatically update itself whenever it's near an appropriate device (say, your smartphone or your bluetooth enabled computer). Then when you're away from those devices, the watch can still update you on meeting times/locations, weather forecasts, pre-downloaded maps (define your home area as a 100x100 mile square, and have that map always loaded), etc. It's seamless for the end user, and you still have that functionality when the watch and phone are separated.

You can even include apps or features that only work when it's paired with a phone, or apps that that can do a "wait and sync" later when there's a connection (capture part of a song with the Shazam app on your watch, have the song pop up latter when the watch connects to the phone, detail texts or email vocally to the watch, have them send later when there's a connection, etc)

Non sequitur. The question was about items announced or previewed but never delivered. Apple hasn't commented, announced, or previewed iWatch.

I somewhat agree.....although you and I are not interested, it seems like wearable tech is piquing interest. But just like every other consumer industry I think the OEMs are manufacturing the interest. I wonder what the Pebble's sales numbers were prior to Google and Apple's (and others?) developments.

Honestly I myself have tried to justify getting the Galaxy gear 1st gen but no way would I spend $250 on it. It would be cool if one was included as an accessory to the phone.

So going by your logic - there isnt an iWatch and as such all the ridicules "Google are copying iWatch rumors" are null and void.

Trolling ?..
Watching google io shows you how apple 3 steps back? Lol exactly how.
Most of the announcements at the io are knockoff and copies of what apple has announced in the last 1 year.

Well considering that a lot of the stuff announced is still in development, there is always a risk things could go wrong.

And....? So Apple announces things that are mostly finished products, while Google announced projects that are in development. Isn't that exactly the point some people are making?

If Apple announced every little pet project their engineers are toying with and dreaming up, it would sure give the illusion that Apple is doing more too.

But lets not forget, a lot of this is in response to Apple. This smartwatch obsession happened after iWatch rumors started getting hot. Android Car is a response to CarPlay which Apple announced a year ago. Android TV is a response to Apple TV, a product from 2007, as well as rumors about upcoming updates to ATV. ART replacing Dalvik is fixing a 7 years long problem with Android performance in comparison to iOS. 64-bit support is in response to A7 and iOS 7, which again launched almost a year ago.

So yea, Google is certainly doing a lot. Mostly because there's just a ton of things they HAVE to do. People love to act like Apple is standing still. When Apple adopts just one feature Android has, critics love to point it out. But when Android does the same thing, and clearly follows Apples direction in many areas, its just a "natural progression." So no one copies Apple, but Apple copies everyone.

Please explain what "knock offs" your referring to?
