And....? So Apple announces things that are mostly finished products, while Google announced projects that are in development. Isn't that exactly the point some people are making?

If Apple announced every little pet project their engineers are toying with and dreaming up, it would sure give the illusion that Apple is doing more too.

But lets not forget, a lot of this is in response to Apple. This smartwatch obsession happened after iWatch rumors started getting hot. Android Car is a response to CarPlay which Apple announced a year ago. Android TV is a response to Apple TV, a product from 2007, as well as rumors about upcoming updates to ATV. ART replacing Dalvik is fixing a 7 years long problem with Android performance in comparison to iOS. 64-bit support is in response to A7 and iOS 7, which again launched almost a year ago.

So yea, Google is certainly doing a lot. Mostly because there's just a ton of things they HAVE to do. People love to act like Apple is standing still. When Apple adopts just one feature Android has, critics love to point it out. But when Android does the same thing, and clearly follows Apples direction in many areas, its just a "natural progression." So no one copies Apple, but Apple copies everyone.

There is no iWatch! There were smartwatches on the market long before the iWatch rumour.

So Apple isnt playing catch up with the apparent release of a larger screen phone, the notification center, widgets etc etc

Yeah those lock screen notifications are pretty nice...

Lets see, what existed before apple...
Calling from a mobile device
Accessing internet from a mobile device
Contacts
SMS
MMS
Email
Apps
Copy/paste
Music on a phone
Buttons on a phone
Touch screens on mobile devices
...

95% of the first iPhone is copied from someone else

Am I the only one who thinks this Android Wear interface looks extremely soulless and bland?

Its basically just white boxes and they thought : "oh lets slap some nice background image on it to make it look less horrid".

after watching the video demonstration, if the iWatch can take a note for a double-sided peanut butter jar...it will be a clear victory for iWatch

Once again vapor and beta-ware. The demos didn't work. There were odd uncomfortable pauses. It was like watching amateur hour. Half the things they showed about Android wear are theoretical and don't actually exist without someone else writing the code and making the hardware. Of the things that did exist, they looked pretty rough. The got the shadows and pretty colors though...

Watching I/O made me realize just how good Craig Federighi actually is at presenting technical material. The best part was watching people get up and leave in the middle of presentations and their head shadows crossing the cameras. LOL I guess it's free and open and you can do what you want, who cares what the experience is of the viewer at home right? Ooops, Freudian slip..

are you really gonna start with the who copied who? last i checked.. apple seemed to have integrated a lot of features that android has had for years now..

You can bark as much as u like.. But that wont change reality !
Android is a pure knock off of ios. If u are not aware of this you are living under a rock somewhere!

I think the only reason we are seeing these watches are because of Apple's rumored iWatch.

I would have a hearty laugh if no iWatch was released but another product and all these smart watches will automatically stop being developed

I would like to add the only reason why you are seeing these watches are because of the Pebble and it's massive success. It created a new market for wearable tech.

Exactly... Google doesn't control the entire stack. They were demoing hardware from Samsung and LG

Prototypes.

Google's software is only as good as the hardware it's installed on. It may take a few years to work out the kinks.

That's just really awful.

I'm sorry Google and probably Apple too.
There are many of us who like watches.

They are among the only men's jewelry.

Attempts to replace the watches with a nerdy digital smart watch will not work (at least for those of us who like watches).

Fugly stupid wearables

we want implantables and contact lenses,

not a goofy looking watch or glasses

and sorry,

giving it a burberry watchband still won't wash off the geek stink

... you say this now, and will probably preorder one when Apple announces theirs this fall

huh.. i guess me owning both an iphone 4s and a galaxy s3 means i'm clueless and don't know any better.. my god.. android has more features that are useful for me, but i recommend the iphone for people who just want simplicity. there are quite a bit of differences between the two, that calling android a "knock off" just shows your ignorance and/or denial.

Looks like a solid presentation from Google, but I don't see how it exceeds Apple's WWDC. Google shows a lot more things at earlier stages of development- which makes it look like they're "doing more".

Doing more what? Copying?

Yeah, all big companies are stupid to build a product based on a rumored product that'd supposedly be released by some other company in future.

The (fanboy) arguments over here are quite funny-

- Anyone releases a product after Apple releases, they copied Apple.

- Anyone releases a product which Apple doesn't have, they just want to be first to the market and it exists only because Apple is rumored to have one in the works.

It's a developer conference.

How can developers know what is going on without seeing what is coming out and the developer previews alongside it?

Too many people looking at I/O as a consumer showcase it seems.

Been watching the Google I/O - They really have excelled themselves this year.

I hate to say it, but after watching the I/O, it makes it appear Apple take 1 step forward but then take 3 steps back.

Ha, why am I not surprised posters at MacRumors would say this? At least Apple can start a keynote on time and doesn't go way over because umpteen people were on stage demoing everything under the sun.

That's pretty much 99% of Google's entire design philosophy....

wearables

Whoever does this right needs to do something extraordinary.

Otherwise, CALCULATOR WATCH.
