Google copying Apple, and Apple copying Google...
Well, this makes them more competitive (good), but you really have to choose one side of the fence. I'm already on the Apple side, so I'm hoping Apple will improve iTunes Match.

I have it and it works great for me but I can see how free is better, I am just interested in why you find it doesn't work for you?

data mining and giving criminals access to your phone is two different things. Google can not be trusted. They have allow these apps in their store and refused to put in measure that protect their customers because they don't think its important.

Giving criminals access? Criminals access careless users. If you've educated yourself thoroughly on how to manage your privacy and personal information, this shouldn't be a problem for you, ever. It's just as likely you will be the victim of identity theft by any number of manners if you don't take proper precaution. Some people don't want to worry about that and presumably choose Apple, but I know plenty of iPhone users (my girlfriend's family, for one) who have had their personal information stolen through careless behavior. I personally pick and choose lots of services for different reasons that relate to myself, it's a personal choice. Both Google and Apple have their advantages.

If you properly secure your data, then Google "selling" your personal information (which they don't in the way most people think) is not an issue. It is YOU, after all, that chooses what services to use and what not to use.

From iMore: "Convenience and security are always at odds, and choosing the convenience of free cloud services like Google's sacrifices the security of your personal information. I currently find that an acceptable compromise. If you don't have a problem with it either, than good for you. Enjoy. As long as we all know the deal."

iTunes Match has worked flawlessly for me. I'd be interested to know what issues others are having.

Match runs like crap in China. Cellular takes forever and a day and its not much better over local wifi. Still have to enable a VPN to download my music!

On topic, I'd be interested to know what's gems are in Googles Ts&Cs to see what they can do with your music?

The bad part is when you try using it on the iPhone. Pretty bad there.

That's strange. Works too good for me on my iPhone, iPad, Apple TV, in my car thru my iPhone thru Fords Sync, and on my Mac Mini, oops almost forgot.. my Mac G5.. Lol..

Seriously it's pretty scary when copies of sound effect files stored in iTunes ( for Final Cut Pro ) appears AND plays on ALL my devices.

Um yea it works perfectly for me. Pretty impressive... No lie.. I have a authentic hidef voiceover recording of the Haunted Mansion ride (Disneyland) original soundtrack stored in iTunes -- freaked out when it started playing thru itunes match while in my car on my way to a funeral - no joke...

How silly. The government isn't in business to sell your data to the highest bidder or to carelessly allow hackers access to your phone and computer because they will let any software into their store and its unto you to figure out it was malware. Kind of like this one. They are making millionaires it just the criminals though.

You can't be more wrong

I'm seriously considering moving to Android when Key Lime is released. They offer Apple like services a lot cheaper! Tired of paying premium when Google is offering their tablets, phones and maps for a lower cost.

a premium...hah, good one.

You get what you pay for. If you're the type of person that places no value on quality/craftsmanship, instead looking solely at price tags, then I don't know how you got sucked into the Apple universe in the first place.

And since when did you have to pay for Maps? Last time I checked, both Apples and Googles are free. And did you forget that iCloud is free? Apple offers free services too you know. Quit perpetuating false stereotypes. Nexus phones and tablets are cheaper because Google apparently has no desire to profit from Android, they're clearly only interested in market share and ad revenue.

Best of both worlds, iTunes at home and Google Music on the go

Now..... if only Google could have their Google play music streaming for IOS as well, you'd only need to carry the iPhone, and have the best of both words, while doubling the capacity

i'm beginning to think that apple has some tough times ahead.

how many times have we heard that one the past 12 years?

internet services are in google's dna, not apple's.

google's DNA started as search. apple's as computers in the '70s. I think apples been able to recreate itself very, very well: desktop publishing, music, phones, tablets...I'm not worried.

take for example google docs. what a great alternative to ms office.

if you say so.

apple has been working on building their own office but failed in my opinion. and they have been hard at work on it for a long time.

me, I think iWork smokes docs. I actually enjoy using it, which is a first. the templates are clean and the client apps uncluttered and easy to use.

another thing that worries me about apple is their increase in collaboration

uh, actually apple is known for the inverse -- taking things in-house, owning their core tech, and vertical markets.

----------

You don't think that Apple is doing the same thing?

no, apple does not. google is primarily in the advertising business, apple is I. the product business. google sells you as the product. apple sells you a product. google will fight to find out more about you to sell it, apple fights to prevent you from being sold. this is documented, do some research.

Well considering I got locked out of my itunes match account for 90 days because my wife wanted use the computer I might just cancel it and upload my music to google now.

good story, bro.

Yeah, Apple surely isn't trying to get you stuck in their ecosystem. I'll just take this movie I bought on itunes and watch it on my non-apple device now...

you're confusing apple with the content owners. apple fought the record labels to have DRM removed from online music sales, resulting in ultimate portability and transferability. no reason to believe they wouldn't do the same with film, but the studios call those shots. as is, if you buy a movie on an iPhone or Apple TV you can move it to your Mac or even windows machines, via iTunes. that has my platforms covered...

Dude, you are so right on. All of the services that Apple delivers to me -- over the years.. And years...could NEVER be marginalized by a competitor. I'm what Apple would call a "core" customer. I've been at it with Apple for 24 years. These muskrats who say this or that have no long term loyalty to anything in life. They -- not a core Apple customer -- care only about the next new thrill -- like a new steel coaster ride at Six Flags lol.

Apple's map app works great for me in L.A. But I don't have a codependent relationship with my map app. Thankfully # my life isn't reduced to depending on it or Googles data.

Once Apple plugs in a good data set - it'll be tits. Big deal.

Seriously tho - if I were Apple -- I work in entertainment marketing btw -- I would have said from the outset -- hey Apple tribesmen -- we are going at this map thing alone as in beta -- and we want you to be part of that process -- building the worlds best map app -- then let Google launch it's map app separately, not as the default map-- but let your core user base opt into the building process -- solidifies your branding and most importantly your tribesmen are happy to help fight the fight and like anything viral-- that action would spread -- hence the Apple map would solidify nicely. #

iPhone 5's, 4's, 4s', iPad minis are selling in the L.A. Area at a fast clip. In fact the mini has actually picked up in popularity. A rare feet in this market. Once people went into Apple stores and saw and felt the mini first hand -- the market demo that its geared at - bought in and its big. Im telling you data points are showing that more than half ipad mini buyers are new to tablet market... This means Apple may, may in fact actually grow market share BECAUSE of the mini -- contrary to what the naysayers thought just two months ago.. Don't believe the hate #

Are they? Is it? Last I remembered, Apple tried getting into the selling you business with iAd, and got busted right alongside Google for tracking their users through their smartphones.

Listen, people. You don't have to like the way Google runs it's business, but lets not portray them as some evil overlord big brother type figure, and Apple the scrappy little freedom fighter rallying against them for your rights and privacy.

Same here! I've been using it since April and love it!

I haven't had any problems with it either and they seem to be using a much better algorithim to match the music to me.

1. Google does not sell you nor sell your data
2. iAds

Seriously? Are some Apple users so gullible to think that Apple is somehow some virtuous company that protects users and doesn't track them to sell to advertisers, while Google is the most evil company in the world that sells its users as the product?

http://www.idownloadblog.com/2012/10/11/how-to-limit-ad-tracking/

But even if you’ve withdrawn your device from carrier data tracking systems, there’s a good chance that advertisers are still watching you through Apple’s iAd network. So if that concerns you, here’s what to do…

Even Apple's website acknowledges they are tracking its users and explains how to opt out of the tracking (for those who realize they are being tracked and aren't living in a cloud).

http://support.apple.com/kb/HT4228

If you prefer your location not to be sent as part of an iAd ad call, you can turn the Location-Based iAds setting off on your iOS device at Settings > Location Services > System Services. Learn more about Location Services.

On iOS 6, you can also limit iAd and other interest-based ads by turning on Limit Ad Tracking under Settings.

Well many folks like free stuff specialy when it works great!!

Not available outside US or Europe

Sucks for the rest of the world.

At least Apple's service isn't restricted to US and Europe.

I definitely want to try this out.

iTunes Match is horrible on iOS. There's no option to fill your device and reserve a certain amount (say 2GB) for music. If you download a big playlist it just keeps going until the device is full, then spits out an error message for each song it cannot fit, fills the downloads tab in the iTunes app with all the failed downloads and... There's no way to delete your songs again!

So there you are with a full device. Nice one. The only solution : delete everything and start all over with a smaller playlist.

To make it worse, if you start downloading a playlist on your iphone over wifi and then leave the house, it switches to cellular! Can you believe that? My iPhone downloaded 1,5 GB over my mobile network leaving me with a huge bill.
(And yes: the option to use cellular was switched off, this is one of those horrible bugs in iOS 6.0)

Payed online services and apple = no match!

Does this work with iTunes? How do they know my music library?

Might not work (yet) in your country (Soviet Union?!?!) but once it is available, go to Google.com, then go to Play (in the google menu bar up top) and it will take you through a set up process, with google play downloading to your machine which will then upload your iTunes music collection...

very simple
