I will respectfully disagree with you. Apple's native app leaves much to be desired. It's a bit unintuitive and aesthetically dry.

:)

But to each their own.

In regard to the Google app, wish there was a 7 day/month (with dots) landscape mode.

This. I really do miss the monthly preview with the events written in underneath each day.

This is google therefore I will never use this.

Also as a side mention, Apple's calendars solution is better.

Sigh nobody needs another calendar app. Apple has already nailed this down and has the best integration solution for all iOS and OS X users.

Oh pulleeeeez. I need another calendar app.
I often visit sites for work that I’ve been to sometimes 3 years ago. Guess what, Apple Calendar search is limited to 12 months. That makes it about as much use as an ejector seat in a helicopter.
If I can search back it’s that far with GC it’s gonna be See Ya, wouldn’t wana be ya, to Apple Calendar.

I’m really interested to find out also how it integrates with Calendar.app on the Macintosh.

No it isn't. You seemingly dismiss Google Calendar just because it's a Google product.

That’s what I thought. It’s been out 20 seconds yet he/she’s tested and reviewed it and the stock app is better.

Yah, sure.

What a load of nonsense and very narrow minded. How about all the Google Apps users for starters? For them this is light years ahead of Apple's offering which is very basic. Apple certainly do not have it nailed. Different types of users have different requirements and it is unlikely one app i.e. apple's is going to be the best solution.

A welcome release but it took far too long to materialise.

Google's native software is > than Apple's. Why do you think there are so many 3rd party calendar apps? If it was that could, there'd be no need. Apple's app is in the back of my phone with the rest of their apps since others offer a superior solution.

Apple should stick to OS's and hardware. Making software just isn't their lot in life.

Apple's does not support my work's Google Apps account, so anything else that does is useful to me.

Currently using Sunrise, which ain't too shabby.

Solid first release, however missing some key features that the competition already has, namely:

  • Default alert durations
  • Notification Center widget
  • Natural Language Input
This. After using Fantastical, any calendar app that doesn't have Natural Language Input is pretty much a pass for me.

Hmmm funny I'm not a particular fan of the ios calendar app. I actually like Fantastical more. I just wish the events and reminders were scrollable on the today widget. It just cuts off. :(

My biggest beef with Fantastical is that I have to rotate my phone sideways to see the day view, and even that is hard to read. I don't get why they can't allow you to swipe down the scrolling day bar down to see a day-view like it does on the iPad version. I personally find it much easier to find time free in my day when it's in grid layout

Nice joke. Not very funny though.

Yes I don't use google products. google's fault for that. But their calendar app is also not as good as Apple's solution. Both me hating google because of what google does and google making a bad app can exist at the same time.

No it can't. That's just hate and bias. Something this world could use a lot less of.

I use Sunrise too. We'll see what Microsoft does to it and see if I stick with it.

Great, I love those "I know what is best for everyone".

Here I was stupidly thinking my use of Fantastical was based on my needs and that it was a better calendar app for me, having used plenty of them. But clearly I am wrong, who I am to argue that I know anything about my needs?

Downloaded, but it will probably will sit in a folder until a Notifications Widget update is pushed out. Beautiful and easy to use, though.

I'm still anxiously awaiting Google Keyboard.

Exactly why I'm downloading the Google app. This is insanely annoying.

I have no problem seeing my Google calendars in the IOS calendar app, both my own and Google calendars shared with me.

But I will give the Google app a spin to see what it brings anyway.

I'd also like to see it incorporate some more of the Google services to compete with an app like Tempo, where you can dial into conference calls with one-tap, see a history of emails/attachments relevant to the event and links to other services (i.e. to wish someone Happy Birthday on Facebook from within the app).

I think you can set default alerts in calendar settings. For natural language input, just type something like "Lunch with Laura at 1" (http://calendar.google.com/about)

Im currently using Fantastical and syncing with an exchange server. Whilst I love the exchanges reliable syncing it has some issues. This new app is very nice and I am considering jumping ship to googles calendar.

knemonic - The difference with this, at least for me, is if you're using Exchange or not through Google. I used to be on Exchange and the shared calendars don't show up. But on a standard Google account, they become part of the iOS Calendar app. Exchange support was grandfathered in for people who were using it, but is no longer an option for new users.

Hope this helps.

When is Google/Apple gonna fix the glitch where you can't see shared calendars from Google on the iPhone calendar app?

I can see shared calendars through calendar on my Mac from my google account yet not on my iPhone.

I've been waiting for this since it launched on Android. The Apple calendar app is now tucked away in a folder. It's just a gorgeous, fun calendar app to use.

I concur, Google Apps and Services are the backbone of my computing via MBPr, MBA, iPads and iPhone's.

The moment the new calendar appeared in the App Store I loaded it on my iPhone's 6 and 6 Plus.

Google has done so much to make my experience fast, fun and efficient.
