It looks better than the old one. They’re probably feeling the pressure from the Apple AR glasses rumors.
Pressure from something that at this point can't even be considered vaporware?
You do realize that Google has a finished product which they are selling to enterprises?
[doublepost=1558417606][/doublepost]
Except that in this case, the problem isn’t so much the technology but that nobody trusts google with this sort of stuff.
How do you know exactly?
And why are you generalizing? Most likely because you don't have any plausible arguments against Google.
I mean Apple trusts Google enough to have quite an expensive business relationship, Apple trusts them enough to make Google the default search engine on iOS and for their CEO to state that: Google is the best search engine for iOS users

Edition 2: what like 5 years later and a product that made zero cultural impact that everybody deemed a failure? The shining example of how NOT to do glasses? And also a product that was literally banned in some places of business because of privacy concerns?

Oh yes. THAT super successful product was totally deserving of a 2nd version! How could I have forgotten? And as we will all see, this product in no way will change to be anything like apple’s version when they release theirs.

Quick edit: just googled when the first version came out and had to correct myself. Correction. It released in 2012 so it’s not “like 5 years”. More like 7
You don't make any senses.
Google admired that it wasn't a good idea to make their Glasses available for general consumers and stated that they will focus on enterprises. And that's exactly what they did. This is why we have a 2nd version.
If Apple builds a similar product there no reason to trust them more.

Imagine doctors doing surgery, being able to see an AR overlay of the internal organs. This tech may not make much sense in consumers' hands, but there are several fields where it will be invaluable.
Nothing calms you down going into surgery like a doctor saying “don’t worry, this little gizmo will tell me where and what all your organs are!”

Except that in this case, the problem isn’t so much the technology but that no ‘hardcore Apple fan’ trusts google with this sort of stuff.

Think back to why the Apple Watch succeeded. How aggressively Apple marketed their product, even releasing additional watch bands to make users want to wear it (not merely tolerate one for the tech benefits).

This is something that can only be achieved by a company who gets both tech and design. Google gets the tech but not the design. Which is why this product will fail.

And this is a problem no amount of tech can solve.

Third, I can guarantee that if Apple released a similar product, it would be subject to very strict criticism. That’s the double standards which has me scratching my head. A product can advance a certain category, and be equally flawed and be subject to its share of criticism. Yet when companies like Samsung and google release something like this, the reception is a collective shrug and a dismissive “at least they are trying to innovate”.

Fixed the first paragraph for you.
Second you have zero proof that this product will fail.
And third you can’t guarantee anything about Apple, I mean they did fit poor performing Intel modems that were outperformed by Qualcomm and they are more then happy to let iOS have bugs in it all the time.. like the FaceTime security breach.. so don’t make false statements.
Such double standards in this site..

And what exactly has Apple done that’s innovative lately? I can think of a couple but I want to see what you say...

You say that, but they DO write big arrows on to point them to the knee or leg etc they need to operate on..!!!

Maybe this hasn’t been successful yet but I’m absolutely certain that augmented reality absolutely will become huge sooner or later. I was frankly amazed when I used Hololens, it’s the most impressive piece of tech I’ve ever used and it had such useful real world uses for my company that were using it on a construction site.

I’m sure it’ll find it’s way to be a useful consumer product in time. But just like tablets were quite poor for many years then suddenly came of age I’m certain the same will happen with AR. Frankly anyone who disagrees with me probably has never used hololens.

People can bash this all day long, but that's a shallow perspective. What they fail to realize is how this type of development moves the needle forward. Technology improves, lessons are learned, and one day, the world will be a better place as a result. So, bash all you want, but let's be thankful that Google is "wasting their time on this". 10 years from now, you won't see it that way.
I absolutely agree. I suspect all the people bashing it have never used AR headsets. The Microsoft one is frankly incredible, and has many great uses in industry already and I’m sure the tech will one day be very useful for consumers as well.

Science fiction may be warping the definitions some are using to define augmented reality. Tracking objects is not a requirement for AR. Visual representation is not even a requirement of AR. And you'd be hard pressed to find a HUD that is not also AR.

Google Glass = Augmented Reality

Apple trusts Google? Is that why they go to extraordinary lengths to prevent Google from knowing anything about me?

For example, if I have a photo in iCloud stored on Google servers it’s not only encrypted before it gets to Google, but it’s split into multiple pieces before being stored. Google has no idea if all those pieces make up a group of photos, a video clip or something else. Nor does Google know who those pieces belong to. Is that what you call trust?

Or we could go by Google’s history. They’re famous for starting a project and then dumping it when they get bored. They do it so often that any discussion on a new Google project invariably invites the “how long until they abandon this” jokes.

Or their business model, which is based entirely on offering products and services to mine data for advertising. Since Google is nothing more than an advertising company that people think is a technology company. And that Google will do anything to keep the data flowing, like writing malware to bypass tracking in Safari (which they were fined by the FTC for).

Google’s getting something out of Glass, and it’s not revenue from the outstanding sales they’re getting. It’s just another way for Google to mine data.

Yup, there’s plenty of reasons to trust Google. /s

Well Yes of course they do. You can't have a lucrative business relationship with another entity if there isn't any trust.
Simple logic.
Or you are suggesting that Apple would not make any effort to encrypt data if they they trusted Google? that's absolute nonsense.

Well at least Google is way more advanced in AI that Apple is. So the future looks bright.

Yup, there’s plenty of reasons to trust Google. /s

Well yeas of course, that why they have many business partners like for example: Apple Inc.

Google’s getting something out of Glass, and it’s not revenue from the outstanding sales they’re getting. It’s just another way for Google to mine data.
Really so you know the details of the business deals Google has with their enterprise costumers for Glass?

Apple trusts Google servers to store data. They don’t trust Google with access to the data that gets stored or who it belongs to. Apple trusts Google to provide search results. They don’t trust Google with my identity.

In short, Apple only trusts Google to provide a specific function. Apple absolutely doesn’t trust Google related to their core business model - collecting data about individuals in order to sell ads.

Interesting how you skipped over everything else I said. As usual.

Well of course that is what I was saying. So there is trust.
The rest of what you wrote are irrelevant and pointless answers to questions nobody asked and things nobody suggested or claimed.

Actually I didn't but you do write a lot of irrelevant stuff in you posts and I'm under do obligation to deviate from the actual point I made in my original post.

i wonder the lack of vision here.
this is actually a great thing in an early phase.

its definitely the future for many professions!

I guess it makes more sense to push the product into the enterprise market. It is too expensive for the consumer market, and glasses are also about style, you can't sell a model that fits everyone's taste.

This is not how you launch a new product category - not even to the enterprise market. The use and benefits needs to be crystal clear and the hardware should look modern.
Show some everyday use and gaming. If you entice the people, they will push into the cooperate world.

This is potentially hurting all upcoming smart glasses; unfinished and ugly as f**k!!

Because of dumbsumers the rest of us don't get nice things since this is now sold to enterprise only. This hands-free HUD tool which is less bulky and more affordable than HoloLens 2 would be useful for a lot of consumer applications such as learning, car repairs, electronic maker hobby, cooking, etc.

TF is a "dumbsumer"?

I suspect Google already is aware that this product isn't necessarily for the consumer at a level where they would find it practical for ‘every day usage’, as it would be for more of the ‘professional workforce’ given its potential to allow for more opportunity advancement in fields where it’s ‘Hands on’.

Second you have zero proof that this product will fail.

I will be providing a list of reasons why I feel Apple stands a good chance of succeeding in the smart glasses market, and these are also the reasons why I feel Google will have a harder time doing well.

Granted, some of them won’t be as relevant since google will be serving the enterprise market, which has its own set of priorities. But in a nutshell, we will be looking at the Apple Watch market play out all over again.

And third you can’t guarantee anything about Apple, I mean they did fit poor performing Intel modems that were outperformed by Qualcomm and they are more then happy to let iOS have bugs in it all the time.. like the FaceTime security breach.. so don’t make false statements.

None of them matter in the greater scheme of things.

While it is true that I can’t tell the future, much less guarantee anything about Apple, I can provide a list of reasons why I feel that Apple is uniquely positioned to succeed when it comes to smart glasses, using what we have already seen with Apple’s successes with the Apple Watch and Airpods.

1) Apple controls the hardware, software and services, and this will be increasingly important moving forward. Offhand, Apple has the W2 chip, is expert in miniaturisation, and has experience with power efficiency.

2) Lessons learnt from manufacturing the Apple Watch and Airpods will prove invaluable when it comes to mass-producing the Apple glasses.

3) Apple gets fashion. The Apple Watch is a smartwatch which people are not only willing to pay a premium for, but also be seen wearing one. Apple has aggregated the best customers, and this shows as consumers don’t mind paying top dollar for a watch plus additional bands.

I don’t see android users being as willing to splurge on such an accessory, going by existing trends with android wear.

Same goes for glasses.

4) Apple has their retail stores which allow customers to try them out in person and may even order customised versions if need be.

Sure, there will definitely be bugs and hiccups here and there, but none of them will matter as I am sure that Apple will get the core experience right enough that users are willing to overlook all the other flaws.

And what exactly has Apple done that’s innovative lately? I can think of a couple but I want to see what you say...

Apple excels in creating cohesive user experiences, made possible by their control over hardware, software and services. That is the entire reason why I am all in with the Apple ecosystem, because no other company offers what Apple does.

And this will be increasingly crucial when we go into wearables. Just look at how Qualcomm is unwilling to invest in developing new processors for android wear devices. Meanwhile, Apple just shrugs and releases a new Apple Watch chip every year.

Lots of people seem to be confusing the enterprise market with the consumer market. In any event, with Android API compatibility and MDM integration, I can really see how these can begin to take off.

Some individual consumers may not trust Google consumer facing applications with their information, but enterprises do trust their cloud services (and Glass is primarily a device that works with the cloud). One example in the video dealt with the highly regulated medical field, so you can assume businesses are getting the data privacy they need.
I think the big difference is that businesses pay Google for cloud services. All the "free" stuff that Google offers individual consumers is paid for via harvesting value from the users data. That is what has given Google a bad reputation among privacy conscious consumers.

Remove the glasses part and make it a headset (bigger battery).

I want one so that I can command my own Jem'Hadar attack ship.:D

Nope - not with these. You can do 3D overlays and things like that with something like the Hololens or MagicLeap, but not with Glass (even Edition 2).

Ah... good point. In that case, scratch that. This isn’t AR so it’s not going to be good enough. This is just a ‘heads-up’ display for *one* eye in 2D.

My new opinion is that it will fail and AR glasses will be better suited to industry.

Don’t agree with everything you said, but a interesting points about the Apple Watch, I wouldn’t include Air Pods and fashion in the same sentence though, as they do look daft!
Unfortunately you made the point of Apple controlling the software and hardware, they do with all their devices but they’ve proven that isn’t always an advantage, iOS 11 proved that beyond doubt!

But with the Apple Watch it has become a geeky fashionable wearable tech accessory, still I cannot see these glasses getting anywhere beyond the workplace.
