Why would you even? Why would you save a picture that is fake? You travel to this place, wherever that may be, and then fake the picture of what it looks like? Why even bother go anywhere? Just "fake" whatever, but for what reason? Looking back at your pictures to see you in a place you haven't been, with friends that wasn't there. Why? What could possibly be the reason? I'm at a total loss here
100% Agree.

why would anybody pay iphone prices for not an iphone level product? lol
It will be heavily discounted fairly soon. They always seem to offer promos like store credit and decent trade-in (in contrast to selling used androids for pennies on the dollar) at least. Plus Gemini Advanced included for a year, for those who value it (not me).

I would have gotten the Pixel 9 Fold but find default Android so boring and ironically lacking a lot of customization options. I would have bought it over the z
6 Fold if it was running OneUi with Good Look from Samsung.

Reinforcing dead internet theory for me. More fake content for fake traffic.

So is the tech press going to complain about camera bumps like they always do with iPhones?
You’d be surprised:

We're entering a new era of falsification and alternative realities…

In this example, what was the reality? The actual situation or the faked version AI augmented with an unrealistic sunset and even extra rocks in the sea?
Do these people convince themselves that that was the actual memory?

Pathetic.

I hope one day people will look back at this and ask themselves, "What were we thinking?"

PS.
And no, before the apologists chime in, this is not the same as previous Photoshop alterations.

This is off the scale fakery.

So many people today live in a false reality, because they cannot stand their own reality. It is really, really sad.

What goes over my head is why people are willing to just give all their information to Google? I mean everything. That device is just next to some brain implant.

Google knows where you are, what you browse, what apps you use, who you sent email, what you search from internet. That is so crazy that I cannot just comprehend.

And AI makes it worse. You interact even more with your Google device. And that is excatly what they want. More data.

Basically an uglified Galaxy S24 with stock android. I wonder, who are these poor things that work at Google's hardware design department? I don't care how many megapixels or computational photography they put in it. This. Is. Ugly. Period. I can't even imagine holding it it my hand and getting strange looks from people like "oh, is than a newest Pocophone? I heard it is good for gaming, my kid has it."

I’d never buy a Pixel because of the software, but let's be honest, in terms of hardware, it’s great and 200€ cheaper than the base iPhone will be.

An underrated advantage Pixels have over iPhones - which very few talk about - is the ability to install a custom OS, such as the privacy-friendly GrapheneOS. You don't *have* to use Google's spyware if you don't want to. There are options.

How long does it take for GrapheneOS to support this device?

I am a big fan of the hardware design Google is fostering now, it is sufficiently unique (as opposed to the Galaxy smartphones which look like iPhone knockoffs) and sleek.

The addition of Satellite SOS is pretty big, and I am glad Google is copying Apple on that front. The 3000 nit screen is pretty awesome as well. Downsides are the Exynos modem (yet again) and Google's spyware out of the box. Camera game is top tier though, iPhones don't stand a chance except on video.

Competition is good.

…another moment that didn’t happen 🤣

So, Google saw Conversation Awareness, and created Conversation Detection.
They saw two models of Pro phone, and created two models of Pro phone.
They saw Genmoji and Image Playground, and created Pixel Studio.
They saw a 5X telephoto, and created a 5X telephoto.
They saw email and message summaries, and created... email and message summaries.
They saw call recording, and created Call Notes.
They saw Emergency SOS via Satellite, and created Satellite SOS.
They saw Vitals and Training Load, and created... Daily Readiness and Cardio Load.

Oh, but they came up with the idea of... being able to add fake wildflowers to a photo of an open field.
Genius.

I also appreciate MacRumors reporting on the competition. One of the few reasons why I still browse the site, as it does not give me the impression of an echo chamber.

I have impression that iPhone users do not switch that often to Android devices. So I would say the competition is between Android manufacturers rather than with Apple.

We all know that other manufacturers might be technically ahead but my understanding is that Apple users aren't that interested in having the top notch in terms of processing power of pixels. They just want to use their devices and are happy if they produce on-par results with what they see on their friends photo feeds for example.

I mean if Google announces new phone, it has very little impact on iPhone users.

Why do you care what people think about the phone you're carrying? I don't pay any attention to what others carry, nor do I care.

A big one for the significant other is she likes having dual profiles on her Pixel 8, one for personal and other for her law practice.

No, Focus Modes are not even remotely close to the same thing.

Google can remember it for you wholesale.

at that price it must be state-of-the-art phone which is pleasant to have as a fashion accessory too. There are numerous 300$ and even cheaper phones for "just calls" or even some photography. I guess Google is aiming at true geeks who rarely care about their public image
