I have trust issues with android. I'm not sure if my data is secure and safe.
It’s your data. Keeping it secure and safe is your job.
I don’t trust anyone to protect me.
OS and apps are one thing. Data is mine.
My iPad has the touch sensor. Love that!
My Samsung doesn’t.
On my iPad, Google Drive employs the Touch ID sensor.
OneDrive does too.
I want touch or face ID on everything.
On the other hand, 2-step verification is annoying.

So are you arguing Apple should be even more restrictive with their walled garden than they already are and this shouldn't be allowed on the App Store? ?

I guess we live in a weird world where people fervidly vote against their own interests.

I mean the complete opposite, if it was up to me iPhones would have USB-C and sideloading as a principle.

I was commenting about the original post, maybe I misunderstood, but my position is that Apple definitely abuses its monopoly in the App Store by delaying reviews of competing apps and ranking higher their own apps in the searches even though developers pay a fee to be there and then another for every purchase.

Edit: I see that your comment was for the OP, somehow I am notified as a reply, maybe you edited, anyway I agree with you.

I guess it's similar to Microsoft's 'switch to PC' concept. The bigger players want a piece from the macOS/iOS user base. Last year I got myself a SONY Xperia 1 III just to see what's going on with Android. Android 11 was fine until Android 12, it was a major step backward. Knowing Google is bad at software and user interface, it's on par with Android.
Latest quarterly report shows that Apple is continuing to pick up Mac users even as the overall PC market is shrinking in size.

Would seem to me, that the PC makers are doing a poor job of attracting Mac users.

If I were to move platforms, the roadblock for me would be my WhatsApp chats. I have chats saved with friends from around the world and I would rather not lose those messages.

There should be options to backup chats to Google Drive, Microsoft OneDrive, Dropbox and the like. Some apps like Goodnotes allow developers to backup to locations besides iCloud, which is what needs to happen here.

Supposedly, WhatsApp is working on a solution.

I have never used an android phone. I went from old-school motorolas to iPhone 3G.

Is there a recommended best-in-class android phone? I’m tempted to get one as a second device - on a different network, to cover for poor signal locations. And just to be a bit more informed about how they work.
I feel like I have a lot of prejudices about different android manufacturers.. Samsung too expensive for what they are. Huawei too risky. Etc. any suggestions for a Shortlist?

Galaxy Tab S7+ is better than my iPad Pro M1 but I'd rather have a Windows x64 tablet with AMD 6000U APU. Don't need crapplets with a full desktop browser with uBlock Origin, AAA games are better than mobile crapplet games plus full featured MS Office/apps.
