Why not get a mid-range Samsung or OnePlus? Or get the Pixel 6a when it arrives within 1-3 months.
Thanks.

Pixel 6a looks like a good buy - will watch for its release.

Completely agree. They act like Android is the worst thing ever.

Got news for them, they're trying to keep their data "secured" but use the internet, facebook and so on so everything is already out there.

And Android isn't anywhere near as bad as it once was. It really has matured.
I'm convinced that the MacOS crowd who say Windows 10 is garbage have never given a fair shot at it (not since Windows from the yonder years). Likewise, I'm also convinced that Windows users who bash MacOS have never tried it. There are some things that are specific (e.g. like the sheer variety of games on Windows, some things that are easier to do), but other reasons don't seem to hold water. I've known some who did make the switch who liked OSX so much that it's a "from my cold dead hands" response to moving away from that platform.

I mentioned to a huge Apple fan (he's got $10K of Mac hardware) that Apple is becoming more and more like the big brother they mocked in their 1984 ad (in 1984). Even he had to correct me and say that Apple was always like that. They just did a better job of hiding it back then was all :D

IMO, I think Apple makes the best tablets out there, though I have a Android phone (Samsung Galaxy A53) and a windows PC. Sometimes going multiplatform brings the best of everything those platforms offer.
When I was in the market for a new tablet, I'm definitely glad I got an iPad. Never mind that I'm enjoying my trial months of Apple Arcade and Apple TV+, but I get to continue playing some of the same games I purchase previously, and it is a nice using experience. My 1st gen Ipad Air has taken a hit in battery performance that I spent more time charging it than using it! However, the 9th gen iPad being $300 new was the game changer. I didn't want to spend $500+ for one.

While I admit that Android does have some innovative features that seem to take a while before getting adopted by Apple...most Android systems are a dis-jointed mess that I couldn't imagine using on a daily basis. Thanks, but no thanks!

What's disjointed about Android systems? Everything is open platform and has a web based component as well. Only thing I can think of is not getting android OS updates for as long or as early on non google pixel phones but pretty simply solution to that issue. Get a pixel phone.

I find Apples ecosystem more disjointed since I've have two deal with the two emails that I can't merge or change in the ecosystem and many key features (iMessage) aren't web based.

Android often gets 2 or 3 OS updates. I went from 9 to 10 to 11.
Getting a 3rd year of security updates from Samsung. Not a phone but a Galaxy Tab A.
The updates come from the Google Play Store.
Play Protect runs everyday I turn on my device, and apps update automatically.

TL;DR, Pixel 5A may be worth considering as well.

.

I got the Pixel 4A when it first came out in Aug. 2020. $350 for a mid-level phone was the bomb! The call screening and "notify me when I'm off from being on hold" features I ended up using a lot. Camera is nice (not as nice as the upper end iPhones and Android models, but at the same time, I wasn't willing to pay $800+ for a "super great camera"). Still has a headphone jack! Nice to have phones that include 128 GB base storage (I was still working off 16 GB and 32 GB prior to then)

Some things that bug me include:
--I can't edit a timer
I have to do the stupid workaround to create a new one instead
--Can't organize apps in the app drawer
Alphabetical order is the only option. Shortcuts of apps on the home screen can still be organized freely (and not confirm to a grid list, so I can put apps I want to access a lot towards the bottom without having to pad apps from the top)
--no micro SD card slot
Although much less of an issue since 128 GB if enough storage
--small screen :(
My last phone was an LG G4 with a 5.5". I just assumed the P4A with a 5.8" screen would be bigger all around, but it's not. The screen is taller, but it's also narrower. Higher pixel density means text and other things are sharper/more detailed, but that also means they're smaller. In some cases, too tiny to be usable (problem with some games). The iPhone equivalent would be an SE.

This is one major reason I'd like to upgrade my phone. Was going to spring for the Pixel 6, but with the 6A around the corner, may as well see what that's about first.

Just fits with the theme, why would anyone be surprised considering Eric Schmidt sat on the board of Apple soaking in all of Apple’s moves? Basically knifed his friend Steve Jobs in the back, something Jobs never forgave him for.

I deleted the apps on my iPad screen so I can actually see my home screen image.
So it is like my Samsung with just one row of apps most used along the bottom.
With Samsung, the apps search are in alphabetical order, which I love.
The iPad has a terrible way of putting all my apps in little boxes where I can see some icons and the others are tiny. I have to use the search bar instead.

Android is a mess. For all its issues, iOS is way way ahead

"Android is a mess." care to explain in greater detail? "For all its issues" such as???? "iOS is way way ahead" and in any specific ways?????

Sorry but these baseless statements just kind of irk me. Back your statements up.

Guessing you've probably never used an Android device for longer than a couple of hours so you probably don't know the differences thus the baseless statements.

Also this is just a switching app. Nobody is making anyone use it but it's there to make it easier to switch if you want to use it for that purpose. What's wrong with having that option available for those who want it?

I do the same thing basically. No apps except on the bottom bar and use the App Library for everything else since it sorts alphabetically and since it’s only one swipe over it’s not a big deal.

Are your "friends" like 15 year olds who vomit ? at the sight of the green bubble? Tell them to hike! There's far more important things to care about than someone's phone and messaging bubble color! Luckily, most of my friends here in Canada use Instagram or Facebook Messenger.
No way in hell I’m using Facebook for anything. Also, no my friends are my family and colleagues. It’s not peer pressure as much as it is me wanting to mitigate any kind of drama at this point in my life.

Why is music always omitted? I got my music to Android but using Google Drive deleted the original music, requiring that I restore it to my Mac from backup.

Well, I came close to considering switching this year.

Although macOS and the MacBook Pro are by far the best desktop OS and laptop, the iPhone and iOS are not so obviously superior to the competition to me anymore.
It's true. I switched from Android because it's buggy and unreliable. iOS is getting worse, not better. They are too focused on features and not focused on polish anymore.

Why would anyone switch to a stoneage eco system of Android
Your comment actually if anything, proves that you’re simply talking without having any type of experience, which proves your point to be invalid. Because everything you said isn’t true when it comes to android and how it’s changed quite significantly even over the last five years.

Good luck with that.

As someone with an Android tablet, I'm looking forward to getting an iPad mini, sooner rather than later.
Phones and tablets are being more of a choice of what OS works best. (iOS/IPadOS vs Android)

But people are starting to wonder other questions now, why are these mobiles devices getting so powerful when the OS is lacking features comparable to laptops? So irregardless of this google attempt to attract new android users from IOS/iPadOS users, Apple needs to improve how both iOS/IPadOS work in order to leverage their devices as better then the other choice.

I made the switch after 10 years in iPhone land in late-2017 without an app. Quite happy and haven’t looked back. I could conceivably come back if Apple ever decides to breathe some new life into the square-apps-filling-up-the-grid blandness in that’s been there since 2007, but short of that, I’m enjoying the grass on the other side more than not (Pixel 6 Pro currently).

That’s nice, but with so many makers for Android devices there is still the problem of lomg-term upgrades, or lack of consistency due to too much fragmentation. Also, no Apple Arcade. Or Apple News where I have many saved stories. I would just miss too many things.

Been there done that, not going back. I “made the switch” for a reason.

If I were to move platforms, the roadblock for me would be my WhatsApp chats. I have chats saved with friends from around the world and I would rather not lose those messages.

There should be options to backup chats to Google Drive, Microsoft OneDrive, Dropbox and the like. Some apps like Goodnotes allow developers to backup to locations besides iCloud, which is what needs to happen here.

Supposedly, WhatsApp is working on a solution.
They'll let you upload to MetaCloud as soon as it's ready and only save 19 copies

If you are happy with Apple, and you are, stay.
I find it annoying that The Oregon Trail is only on Apple Arcade.
I do look at Apple News sometimes. The free section.
I’m not tied to anything Apple, or anywhere else.
I don’t pay for anything on Android.
I got my iPad because there were at least 6 apps I could not get on my Android tablet. It’s better now.
On either side, app developers make phone apps and they’re done.
At least with iPad, apps for made for iPad OS.
The ‘Switch To Android’ app is not for iPad.
iPhone and iPod Touch only.
I do hate apps that don’t rotate.
I have one app that is portrait only and doesn’t rotate if my iPad is upside down.
I do like my Android tablet because it is closer to widescreen.
Videos on iPad have bars top and bottom, like an old CRT TV.
My iPad is fat and I can’t hold it correctly in one hand.
Can with my Samsung.
iPad is 4x3 ratio. Some people like that.
My Samsung is 16x10 ratio. I like that more.

So are you arguing Apple should be even more restrictive with their walled garden than they already are and this shouldn't be allowed on the App Store? ?

I guess we live in a weird world where people fervidly vote against their own interests.
No I’m arguing the opposite! I WANT to be able to advertise my Android app as well. Why wouldn’t I? I want more money as a developer.

The fact that I can’t even mention Android is ridiculous.
