Forget apple and Samsung. I'm waiting for Nokia to rise from the ashes.

Mark my words people Nokia will be king again.

Do you have any idea how bone headed you (Evoken) sound? If you disagree with anything he (SeattleMoose) is saying, state your case and give specific reasons why you disagree. Such superficial B/S is laughable. "Think Much?" obviously you don't.

To be fair, he supported his dismissal of SeattleMoose's rant with every bit as much evidence as SeattleMoose supplied in making his rant. :p

That couldn't possibly be because that was the time that capacitive screen technology was becoming affordable... noooooooo.

Also Android was always designed to be device agnostic. Further - many manufacturers had full touchscreen phones in the pipeline prior to the launch of the iPhone.

The same silly debunked images and posts appear in every one of these threads we should really have one thread with a sticky.

I've said it before and I'll say it again. Google is smart.
I don't know if their tactic will work - but it's far smarter to backpedal than continue down stream to a most certain demise.

When did Google 'backpedal'? Here's what they said, and I'll help you by reading between the lines a bit:

'The court of appeals will review both infringement and the validity of the patent claims.'

Translation: We don't think all Apple's patents are valid, and look forward to them being challenged.

'Most of these don't relate to the core Android operating system, and several are being re-examined by the US Patent Office.'

Translation: We don't think all Apple's patents are valid—but even if they were (and we're not saying they are!), you can't pin anything on us—go after Samsung.

'The mobile industry is moving fast and all players — including newcomers — are building upon ideas that have been around for decades.'

Translation: We don't think all Apple's patents are valid.

'We work with our partners to give consumers innovative and affordable products, and we don't want anything to limit that.'

Translation: We don't think we should have to work around, or pay through the nose for, features that are part of an invalid patent.

You know, you can agree or disagree with them… but I don't see a lot of backpedalling there!!

Android phone after iPhone:

Your argument is invalid.

Wait. Because *some* Android phones are distinctly and obviously different from the iPhone, *ALL* Android phones are? Your argument is so wrong it's not even invalid anymore.

Just curious how many people buy HTC phones because of Sense or Samsung phones because of TouchWiz. I get that these hardware OEM's think they need something to differentiate themselves but is their custom skin the reason people buy their phones?

Can we get some kind of bs filter on these articles?

I'm going to go ahead and say that I know absolutely nothing of patent law, unlike most posters on here who are apparently all patent law karate ninja masters who develop operating systems in their spare time between making billions of dollars and running global companies.

After reading these threads, I have no idea what on earth just happened.

A statement issued by Google that says anything less than:

"We intend to support Samsung in their efforts, and ultimately seek to challenge all of Apple's patents in this arena"

...is a backpedal.

This is but the beginning of a lot of posturing, strategizing & responding to the vast number of challenges presented as a result of this initial verdict.

For those of us that find these types of situations fascinating, this action Apple has initiated is but the tip of the iceberg.

Conversely for those of us geeks that prefer the way things were before the wrath of Steve was unleashed, this will drag on, and on, and on.

There is nothing "initial" about this verdict.

Count by Count: The Apple-Samsung Verdict

http://online.wsj.com/article/SB100...?mod=WSJ_Tech_LEADTop#articleTabs=interactive

Apple won it's case that no one can have rounded corners on icons. They can't have the white colour, it's similar to the iPhone. They can't have the black colour, it's similiar to the iPhone.

If Apple tried to challenge a device due to it's colour, and it wasn't thrown out of court and Apple fined for wasting time no matter what any fixed patent states then it would be the most hypocritical biased worthless unlawful court in the land! Black and white phones existed before the iPhone, as did silver and blue etc etc, as surprising as that it

Actually there were 2 prototypes floating around, thats only one of them. What is it with this site and only picking certain evidence to make hugely flawed comparisons?

These were both of the Android prototypes that were being used before iPhone, not just the one with the keyboard. Android was originally intended to go on a whole variety of form factors.

Worst press release ever by a Google spokesperson... now Google & Samsung will put out a marketing ploy to let people think this means less innovation, less competition.

The problem is Apple innovates, and all the rest are just way behind. I am getting more annoyed by everyone in the game besides Apple. They all are falling. Dell & HP may have to hookup rather sooner than later, and in this new case with Samsung falling, Apple will keep on getting stronger, and the rest will follow(the exact opposite of innovating).

Bunch of followers these kids are... Google should just stay quiet. Samsung might want to do the same.

Really? It feels like it's been years since Apple did anything with iOS that wasn't simply playing catchup to Android and Windows Phone 7.

Any source for this? The first image I ever saw was the one shown well after the iPhone when they showed off a very rough touch device.

EDIT: Also, that YouTube link brought me to a music video. Very strange.

Looks like Android was copying blackberry before it decided to copy the iPhone OS ;)

Oh please! If you think NOT giving the consumers what it wants in technology is a bad business model, don't ever go into business.

Look what happened to RIM when they didn't "Wake up". They went down.

Google and all of the other handset manufacturers recognized a winning formula and offered competitive products. Not every phone maker copies slavishly everything Apple does.

Apple offered a great product that people wanted. It made sense for other companies to follow suit. If you compare it to designing clunky model T forms for cars instead of the sleek Maserati that the people want just to appear different, you are just begging to go into the hole.

There HAS to be a first when it comes to innovative products, ie flatscreen TVs etc. Trying to change the shape of it just so it doesn't seem like you are copying is stupid. Some items require a certain form function to be practical.

So yes, Apple led the way and Google and the rest followed. There always has to be a first but assuming that others won't follow an excellent idea and try to improve on it is just plain naive and stupid.

In the long run we as consumers benefit from ground breakers and those who attempt to improve on what the ground breakers offer.

It's only a backpedal if that was their original statement. Did they ever say that?

Anyway, I will agree with you on one thing… Google is smart. As I see it, they came out and pretty much said that, without really saying it… like a skillful politician. So yes, they support Samsung… and yes they want to see Apple's patents challenged… but right now they're happy to let Sammy fight its own legal battles thanks very much.

It is a BS comparison. To use your comparison, it is to say that Apple has a patent on any screen you use your finger to operate, ridiculous. Google saw what consumers wanted and the responded, it is as simple as that. My first Android, had free turn by turn navigation, the pull down notifications, speech to text, etc. What about Apple seeing that as something consumers wanted and incorporating into iOS. Apple should count themselves lucky Google doesn't sue them for that, or thier new maps program which I am sure is completely different from Google Maps. It isn't that I don't love my iPhone I do, i just think the verdict was acvictory against innovation rather than for it.

Source, weird it was the link to Doctor Cox in Scrubs singing "Wrong! Wrong! Wrong! Wrong!"

True. That has never been Google's on the record official position. So I agree - it's not a backpedal in it's true form. More of a "pase" statement a la bull fighting.

At least we agree that Google is smart. I won't be surprised if they tighten-up their vendor/hardware manufacturers agreements so they aren't in this pickle by-proxy in the future.
