...they're not really wrong. But I think everyone, including Apple, overestimates how many people purchase an Apple device because of Apple Intelligence. For most people it's not even in the top-10 features.

that’s not the point, the point is that if Google is going to criticize for delays, they shouldn’t be delaying things themselves, which they have, and will continue to do.
That just doesn’t make sense. Two years ago Google struggled to bring Gemini into a fast moving AI landscape but look at where it is now and you’re saying they are wrong to poke fun at Siri which hasn’t moved in two years despite being owned by a company worth $500bn more than Google?

Don't get me wrong, I worked for Apple. Everything in my smart home is HomeKit. All our computers, tablets, phones, TV controllers, AirPods, and watches are Apple. We will never switch. Not even for some machine intelligence. I've used ChatGPT extensively, and it's all but useless for a consumer level client. You need tech advice? You'd be better off with YouTube!

That said, yes, Apple has again fallen into the same trap that has hindered its progress in the past, particularly under Jobs, but continued under Cook. And that trap is an obsession with secrecy and closed system of proprietary hardware and software. Yes it does provide a seamless user experience. Yes it does prevent Apple from taking advantage of the marketing hype of the AI movement.

Seeing how 99% of AI implementations fail to add anything to the end user experience I think it is justified that Apple it's taking it's time with it. Of course they shouldn't have announced it, but what's done is done. I do hope they continue in the same way they've been going, as there's no way I will allow full unfettered access to my entire device to an AI that is not on device only.

Also people who still trust Google baffle me.

My hope ( I know I'm dreaming) is that one day we are allowed to plug in and play any model into these devices, that way I can simply self host my own and not have to trust the mega corps.

Also, doesn’t Google make videos about the iPhone and Pixel being like best friends or whatever, what’s with the sudden call out?
They are not best friends anymore. They are arch enemies 🤣 😂 , like they always have been.
Samsung and Google take the p!ss out of Apple

Apple never take the p!ss out of either.

Says a lot really.
True. I wonder why Apple doesn't make such ads? Maybe because they want to show they are just "adults" and not "children" throwing a tantrum.

That's not how the market works. You very much are only as good as your last/current performance. And GOOG's delivery velocity on Gemini as of late is pretty damn impressive whether you are GOOG or AAPL fan boi, it's hard to deny.

And considering Apple sells more iPhones in a month than Google sells Pixels in an entire year... there clearly aren't a lot of people purchasing Pixels for Gemini AI...

If AI isn’t adding anything to your experience it would suggest maybe you’re not using it correctly. It’s worth it just to plug a two hour transcript into it and get a meeting summary within seconds.

The walled garden works until it doesn't. One of the major moats Apple had (has?) is dominance on silicon in AI, but they've completely been unable to leverage it for years now, while it's been a weak spot for Android devices (the inference speed and price per W/Token is incredible on the A/M series chip with Unified Memory arch, but it's basically gone totally unused and at least underleveraged).

The Snapdragon, Exynos, etc devices are quickly catching up (and in some ways surpassing) and AAPL's unified stack still "feels" better, but you do have to wonder, how much longer this will hold out, especially as the phone form factor arguably becomes less critical as AI interactions become more and more ambient and less time eyes-on-screen in the future.

The point of the Pixel is not to sell units en masse. Not even close. It's not even to be competitive feature/spec wise.

In many ways, it's an anchor point and something for carriers to have as a strong/very strong baseline they can heavily discount and a line in the sand for other (Android) manufacturers to "to better" than in price/performance.

Oh Apple used to made fun of Windows all the time with their I’m a Mac ads, but Apple was at a different level and far ahead of competition. This ad is honestly…it hits the spot, doesn’t it? It feels like there really isn’t much to argue against. It’s as if the fat and uncool PC guy really got a fresh haircut fresh wardrobe and worked out in the last few years while Apple kept wearing the same ol pair of jeans that and got fat and lazy. I feel like the PC guy would be the “cool guy” now. I’m afraid it will only go downhill from here. After Cook and the rest of the old mostly OG pack leaves, and the “young blood” of Apple takes over (the same young blood who came out with the brilliant idea of “liquid glass”, you can see them on YouTube talk about it and see how proud and confident they are, yeah whatever…), who will lead Apple towards PROPER innovation? Will Apple be 10 years ahead of everyone else ever again? Like…this Google ad is FRESH. I’ve never owned a Google product, would never use an Android device, but for the first time in many many many years, I’m thinking about it. They really caught up with Apple, it took a long time but they did. I really thought Apple will forever be ahead of their competition, that iPhone will be this unique sleek powerful practical and beautiful device that nobody will ever replicate. And here’s google with iPhone 17 Air before Apple’s own iPhone 17 Air 😄 Crazy. Apple got really fat and lazy. Is Apple becoming an old timer? You know…living on the pillow of the good old days? The last time Apple pleasantly surprised me was when iPhone X came out. Yeah new MacBooks are sick but it’s really just evolution over the years and expected of Apple to keep improving them, but it’s more like a facelift of a facelift of a facelift…nothing groundbreaking like the first unibody Macbook. I don’t really count the flop that Vision OS really is, it was always a “meh” and a stupid product. Why did this Google ad make me feel the same way Apple’s ads used to make me feel? Like “we’re winning” kinda feeling? It’s almost like being an Apple user these days feels like I’m the “PC” guy from old I’m a Mac ads. Google nailed it, and rightfully so.
