That is how I use Apple Maps. Except the police. Waze I find to be highly inaccurate in that sense and cops are not where they say half the time. Maybe police are getting smart and using Waze to outsmart users.

With cops I agree but with accidents or cars stopped on the road I'm usually amazed at how accurate it is.

Or the police could have moved since someone reported it on Waze.
Some police are sneaky and move to other side or up a mile to throw people off. The more people that use it and update the better it will work. I update when I see police hiding or pulling others over. Only helps and works well when everyone helps out

How is slowing down to the speed limit aiding and abetting? What nonsense.

If you have a tool that warns you ahead of time where police are conducting speed traps, it allows you to speed otherwise without fear of getting a ticket. That's what he was referring to. People didn't used to buy radar detectors because they wanted to obey the speed limit. And most municipalities banned their use, because of what their purpose was for. Same thing here.

police dont take long to write a ticket, and then move on down the road to continue pulling people over. So they often aren't still where people report them. But it does give you a good warning to be alert and careful.

Radar detectors are illegal some places and legal others. However, what I quoted was just a made up typical MR snarky comment, until a legal action by the courts occurs.

Is anyone able to see these features using carplay? I see the “+” sign to report traffic alerts while using my phone; however the option disappears within carplay once I connect my phone. Just wondering if I missed something in the settings perhaps?

Today's update was version 5.29. I'm seeing them but not when using the phone without CarPlay.
I’m not seeing the option within carplay either....only when using my phone directly.

The option doesn’t appear on either my 11” iPad Pro or iPhone 11 Pro Max. Both running 5.29 as available today, CarPlay or no CarPlay, it just never shows up.

Not sure why some folks are getting the traffic alert feature and others are not. I have the iphone 11 Pro Max and my option to update my Google Maps to 5.29 arrived last night. I was excited to try it out since I mainly use Waze with its live update features but felt it was being held back with its lack of lane-guidance.

Needless to say, reporting traffic alerts is missing while connected to my car using carplay. I‘m hoping its just a glitch with the update and somehow related to why not everyone is seeing the full feature update and it gets resolved.

A lot of times features are enabled server-side and often rolled out in stages where some users get them before others.

Just wanna jump in here and correct you. There are only 2 states in the US that ban radar detector use right now.

Also, in my experience, police do not care if you run a detector. I believe everyone should have one for increased situational awareness.

It's changed over time. And you are referring to only private use. Commercial use they are banned in far more places. And I remember very well when they first came out and were very popular. And I remember when a lot of retailers stopped selling them, because of them being illegal in many places and situations. Just because something is legal doesn't mean that you can't be sued for selling it to someone. That was back before online shopping was prevalent so I'm sure it's far easier now to buy.
But to quibble over exactly how many places misses my point entirely.. which stands. It was and is designed as a tool for one purpose only: to avoid getting speeding tickets. People that didn't speed had no need for one whatsoever. It's people that wanted to speed, but know when to slow down at just the right moment to avoid a ticket. Waze does the same thing. I drive a ton, and I see people going fast all the time, and suddenly slow down.. because like me they have Waze going and they get the Police reported ahead warning.
Police write speeding tickets as a deterrence to speeding. They are trying to increase public safety. Seems very odd that you would argue that police or anyone would welcome people having a tool to eliminate that deference and speed at will. What then is the point of even having speed limits.

Edit: Waze is far more useful. It warns of road hazards, stalled vehicles, accidents, etc. Even when it warns of a police officer, that officer could be there for a number of reasons. There could be a serious road safety hazard. It provides very helpful information. Radar detectors, however, serve only to let you know there is a cop ahead.. and that that cop is there to enforce speeding laws. There is no other time they are using radar.

The issue here lies within your assumption that people with radar detectors have it to speed. That is simply not correct. Sure, some do. But not all. Just like everything in life. You can't make an over-generalization like that. It's foolish. Some people want added situational awareness. Some like to know if a cop is around as a REMINDER for them. Perhaps they would have lazily changed lanes without a signal, without the reminder. There is absolutely no reason for everyone NOT to have one. Waze is great too. You can report weather, objects in road, and of course police.
Everyone who has ever driven a car has sped at one point. Perhaps they did it on purpose, perhaps it slowly crept up on them on a long drive. Having a reminder to slow down is a great thing.

And for what it's worth, I spoke to a police department about Waze and asked if it's a program they dislike, and they unanimously said they love it, because even if someone reports them on the app, they get the desired effect. People slow down. So it literally does part of their job for them. They said it's a fantastic tool for them and the public at large.

Still not seeing these feature on my iPhone 11 Pro or iPad 11 Pro with latest updates/software installed. Hoping this works with Carplay too. I thought these features would be out by now, according to all the press releases.....

If you have a valid useful reason for why people use radar detectors for reasons other than to know when to slow down, I would love to hear it. The only reason you have given is to “not be lazy and forgot” to obey laws. And you really want people to think it’s okay to get in the habit of not trying to obey laws because a radar detector will warn them a cop is nearby? You don’t want them to obey laws ALL the time? I guess when my three little girls are outside playing in the street i should hope a cop is nearby using a radar gun... or else people will just be lazy and not pay attention.
And your comment on police officers is completely anecdotal. I’ve heard the exact opposite. And a quick google search and you can find articles expressing great concern. For the EXACT reason you inadvertently gave: That it makes people lazy and only think about obeying laws when they know cops are around. Unlike you, I want people to be alert and obey laws ALL the time.

Boy oh boy... if you think people don't make mistakes while driving, I'll let you live in your fairy world a bit longer...

In the meantime, I'll continue using Waze and a radar detector when I drive. Staying safe is what's important. If you want to drive without those protections, have at it. Doesn't affect me :)

P.S. pro tip: don't let little kids play in the street. There are sidewalks, yards, and parks that are made for that. Streets are made for vehicles. Always be sure to supervise them! Cheers.

Reviving an older thread, I am running 5.30 and still do not see this feature. Anyone else not get it with 5.30? I would switch from Waze if I could get this added or keep Waze if they added the lane advice feature on Google Maps. One map app to rule them all, apparently not yet...
