Great look. Full navigation. Full VOICE. Route Options. Saved locations. Traffic/Satellite. Nearby sites of interest. It's the full package and shows Apple screwed up this one.

Maybe it's just me, but this App is a bit annoying. The color scheme gives me a headache, and I really don't like the interface. I'm deleting this immediately. Apple maps works fine in my area. I have no need for this, and I don't like the idea of sharing information with Google if it can be avoided.

I'd like someone to tell me whether it recalculates the turn by turn directions if you intentionally take a different street (e.g., to avoid the highway) or decide to make a side stop en route like Apple Maps does. THAT really impressed me about Maps.

Just an fyi, this is an old android maps feature. Just makes me smile when people are impressed by old features on android.

It gave you the option to opt out of location sharing.

I bet the whole reason Google waited around to release this is because after dealing with Apple maps for this long, Google looks like our navigation saviour.

This is great news but sadly unless Apple ALLOWS it to be fully integrated into iOS, i.e. as the DEFAULT mapping app, then this Google Maps app is still FAR from reaching its potential benefits for users.

Basically now instead of clicking on a web link or being featured as the map on another app, you need to manually copy and paste the address from the webpage or app you're using and then go into Google Maps app and paste it there. If it was the DEFAULT app, all you would need to do is CLICK and it would come up AUTOMATICALLY in Google Maps.

C'mon Apple, give us what we WANT!

I don't think Apple will. Other apps through SDK.
Looks Like I will be using both map apps for a while

Living in Dubai and given that Maps does not support directions in this city , and gMaps does, I had no choice but to download it . I am not impressed! Maps feels snappier than gMaps, but gMaps has the upper hand in some areas. In fact the info is much clearer, bigger texts, wider streets (I hope Apple corrects that approach, but I am still waiting for custom icons for folders, browsing in iPhone is becoming a pain in the axx, and hasn't come yet). At large zoom-out gMaps still use bitmaps, while location tags/names are vector-based; at large zoom-in everything is vector-based.

Still wondering why Apple allowed this.

It's not just you. I deleted as well. The interface is bad, compared to Apple Maps. I like the interface of the maps from Apple.

When I want to study the 4 block walk from the subway I have to do apple maps lets me examine that walk from multiple angles in about 10 seconds.

To do that in street video requires about 90 seconds of:

click, dissolve, click, dissolve, click, dissolve, click, dissolve, click, dissolve, click, dissolve, click, dissolve, click, dissolve, click, dissolve, click, dissolve, click, dissolve...

Oh, look...I'm 20% there!

Ugh

Often there are trees in the way

Fly over isn't very detailed.

U can't see buildings close in detail

Been using it for the past hour, really puts Apple Maps to shame. I am sorry but it is better in EVERY practical aspect. Every restaurant I tried is there, every place of interest, even in my Home Town of Guadalajara Mexico. Turn by Turn directions are very good (although in a couple I tried it missed a restaurant by a street or something, however Apple Maps wouldn't even find those places).

Really, if anything, this helps to highlight how much of a failure Apple Maps is, if only this had Siri integration. I like this one better in every way, from the interface to the mapping. Satellite view is way ahead of Apple's.........I wanted to like Apple's and haven't found it as bad as other people, but really there is no comparison.

Of course they had to use the opposite two-finger gesture to put the map into pseudo-3D view mode; eerie how the rest of the interface mimics Apple Maps.

Sorry, maps>interface for me. Who cares about interface if the maps are crap?

The interface is CRUCIAL when it comes to a maps application. Especially when you are in the car driving. And you're using the interface all the time. In my area (U.S.), Apple Maps data is more accurate and more up to date than Google's as well as having the better interface so that's two strikes against the Google Maps.

I do like the Street View if I ever need to use it though. I'll use Google Maps as a backup. Plus I still have Waze and Navigon. Loving the choices that come with the App Store for the iPhone. Not only is Apple's own stuff there but even Google scrambling to get their stuff in the App Store. Can't get that on Android.

Two finger swipe tilt

Two finger swipe up/down for tilt is the opposite of Apple map app.
Apple swipe at least intuitive - Google map counter intuitive

It's not just you. I echo every word you wrote.

Same behaviour as the android atop. It's only counter intuitive to you because you are used to doing it the other way. To me, it's the same as it ever was.

I wish the turn by turn navigation map would be displayed in the lock screen while in use like Apple Maps. Kind of aggrivating having the swipe to unlock in order to view the map while using turn by turn navigation. Anyone else having this issue?

Why don't I feel comfortable adding my home and work info to my google account?

Transit = Win

End of story. I couldn't care less for any other feature. Although I do like Apple Maps use of vector data... it's really nice when I'm in a 2G area...

+ A billion! I was finally able to upgrade to iOS 6 due to Goole Maps. In NYC no transit = No Dice.
