Nice - and a good upgrade from the original. This will do until Apple really moves to improve all aspect of their maps application. I didn't have much of an issue with Apple maps, and the turn-by-turn navigation came in handy but it just feels a little incomplete. Give it a year!

I've failed to download it so far. Still says unavailable.

To the people who have gotten it: Is Google using bitmapped or vectored maps in the new app? The use of bitmapped apps was one of the biggest shortfalls of the old Apple-provided app (and the website)

Awesome

Everyone that is having problems finding it, just click on the itunes link on the article and download it directly from that itunes link, it worked for me.

I am not able to download, but 2 other people sitting in the same room on the same wifi on their iPhones were able to download it with no issues. Apple just hates me today. :D

Google Maps sucks more than Apple Maps!

You can't even find Google's in the App Store!

(Bad joke, sorry)

Vector. And there are 3D models for taller buildings that view at certain zoom ratios.

Honest question. I am still running iOS 5.1.1. Do I need to download this?

It seems the new version, which you need to install, has turn by turn directions - whereas the old version that was built into iOS 5 did not.

The only reason I did not upgrade to iOS 6 was to retain Google Maps, but if this new version is any good, I'll upgrade to 6.

Meh. I'm fortunate enough to live in an area where Apple Maps works pretty well for me.

I do feel a little sad for those in Oz who were directed into a pack of dingos.

From my computer I get the "temporarily unavailable" message and from my iPad I get "The item you tried to buy no longer available"...

The search on any of the above doesn't find it, I have to click on a google item then choose the company list of apps then I see it, but that doesn't help me get it...

In a way, the premature release of Apple Maps wasn't a bad thing.

About time Google Maps got an update. Google wouldn't have done it.

and also, for people like me on iOS 5 xD

Like I predicted, we now have Apple Maps with turn by turn and Google Maps that are better than the app from iOS 5. All thanks to Apple kicking out the old stock Maps app, and due to competition.

Are all the people who were bitching all this time going to say they're sorry and admit they were wrong? Don't think so.

I'm sorry, but do you two believe Google had any control over the stock Apple app? It was Apples app and they had full say over what features it had.

First Impressions: Not living up to expectations.

Ok first of all, why is there no iPad support. That is not ok at this point for a major release from a major corporation. Second. Lag. Also not ok. It shows how unpolished of an experience this really is. Beyond this, there is a huge lack of setting adjustment. 3d imagery is sub par as far as modern 3d maps. And no satellite 3d. Apparently you have to leave google maps for that and go to earth. Overall this app is very unpolished and as far as I'm concerned, it's no better than apple maps in turn of functionality and usability. And as far as the quality of the MAPS themselves, I'm surprisingly underwhelmed. The data on this app is not the same as it is on my nexus device.

I downloaded it within iTunes by searching Google Inc.
It was the last App in their list.

Well it looks very cheap.....expected better from Google.

For those having trouble getting it:

Go to Macrumors.com on your mobile device, click on the "Appstore" link in the article and download it. No issues, works great.

Call me crazy, but I'm kind of glad Apple came out with Apple Maps - because it forced Google to finally give us what we wanted for free (turn by turn).

With that said, I kind of do miss the Yelp ratings of locations. Hopefully Apple Maps will step their game up even more now...

That doesn't work for me, it brings me to the right page in the App Store app but when I try to install it says "The item you tried to buy is no longer available"

Yeah, pretty much. Apple wanted turn-by-turn and Google wouldn't let them have it.

That second poster you quoted is right.
