Fail - first two searches for local area Walmart and McDonald's both brought up multiple results in wrong areas or misses locations that have been around for years.

Ok first of all, why is there no iPad support. That is not ok at this point for a major release from a major corporation. Second. Lag. Also not ok. It shows how unpolished of an experience this really is. Beyond this, there is a huge lack of setting adjustment. 3d imagery is sub par as far as modern 3d maps. And no satellite 3d. Apparently you have to leave google maps for that and go to earth. Overall this app is very unpolished and as far as I'm concerned, it's no better than apple maps in turn of functionality and usability. And as far as the quality of the MAPS themselves, I'm surprisingly underwhelmed. The data on this app is not the same as it is on my nexus device.

Might show Apple in a bit of a better light.

Competition might be good for Apple.

This makes the iphone the Navigation device you can buy as now you have the option of anything. Take that Android.

I am not downloading it. The fact that they lowballed us for so long till Apple Maps came along.....

Apple Maps works for me where I am and I am sticking to it. And I don't use Maps on a daily basis.

I do understand others being excited about it.

Enjoy.

Is it too soon to complain about there not being an iPad version yet? Because if its too soon, I won't mention it.

I'm sorry, but do you two believe Google had any control over the stock Apple app? It was Apples app and they had full say over what features it had.

Uh, yes. They had almost complete control over the features. While Apple built the front end and the UI, the back-end (maps, imagery, POI data, etc.) was controlled by Google and its license.

I just downloaded it on my iPod touch (3rd Gen). What's funny is that it seems to work better than Google Maps on Android Jelly Bean.

Not for me. It's pretty chunkity on my iPhone 4 and iPad 3. Nowhere near as smooth as I've seen it running on Android.

It's nice having Google Maps back on iOS beyond the web app, but it feels kinda rushed to me at the moment.

Wow, the full deal - voice navigation and transit.

RIP Apple Maps. Might as well end that beta test now.

/uses full time Android *primarily* for Google Navigation...why they gave up such a competitive advantage is beyond me, but I'll take it (also have an iPhone for work).

I like much of it, but one thing I don't is the requirement to sign into a Google account to save favorite places. Not cool.

Itunes works

Use itunes on your computer to download it and it shows up on your iphone. So far I'm liking it!

Will be fun...

to watch lots of people download the Google App, complain about it, and go back to Apple maps.

:p
