Awesome!

I get my stars in google,
The maps look vector,
The maps look crazy fast,
This is awesome. I love the slide out for public transport, satellite, etc..

I'm sorry, but do you two believe Google had any control over the stock Apple app? It was Apples app and they had full say over what features it had.

Yes, Google did have at least some control over the content and features of the iOS 5 Maps app. Their refusal to agree to adding turn-by-turn unless Apple agreed to integrate Latitude and ADS into iOS was the contract renewal deal breaker.

Want ads in your phone OS? I don't.

to watch lots of people download the Google App, complain about it, and go back to Apple maps.

:p

Yeah, the interesting thing is that people always understood that Google maps weren't 100% perfect, but that's fine because that's how the world works.

But now the media has been drilling the message "all maps must be perfect!" into everyone's heads for 2 months. I also feel that this Google maps will get rated far harsher than past versions (of the SAME map data) have been.

This whole Apple maps mess has made everyone pickier, I think.

It's even faster than the app on my Nexus 4. No, it's not really enough to be noticeable in every day applications, but sorta funny none the less.

I just downloaded it here in India 15 minutes ago and now my brother is saying its no longer available.

Exciting to have it back. Looks plain to me so far. Nothing wow.

I like much of it, but one thing I don't is the requirement to sign into a Google account to save favorite places. Not cool.

I would of assumed signing in would be a requirement since it is syncing your favorites and searches from Google Maps using your Google account. It's a very handy feature since now you can plan a trip on your computer and have your places you favorite saved to your phone.

Awesome!!!

Got it from the link from the first post as mentioned earlier, no problems downloaded quick.

For those trying alternate methods, I can confirm that the following will not work if the original method does not work:

1. Finding related apps under Google Earth (or another Google App). While you will be able to find Google Maps, you will not be able to download it.

2. Opening the link from this thread. Same as above.

If it's not working via one method for you, it's unlikely another will work either.

Los Angeles, CA.

Tried downloading first time around 8:30 and was unsuccessful. Been trying ever since then with no success.

Installed through iTunes and synced with my iPhone 5, no problems whatsoever and I'm glad I have public transits back!! GMaps > Apple Maps anyday.

Downloaded 10 minutes ago. I'm in Vancouver.

The funny thing is that when I tried to move the annoying Apple Map icon away from my home screen, the iOS crashed ... VVTF Apple?

Again, this is just rumour and speculation.

None of this was confirmed in any way by Google or Apple.

There have been all sorts of suggestions about Google's demands - ranging from demanding illegal activity to wanting the word "Google" to appear in the name.
