Google News vs. Apple News on iOS

By the way do you know that both Google and apple news sort out the news based on your preference ... kind of news you regularly read..... so it's must be you ... Just saying ...

Some top stories go through regardless. Let’s not pretend anyone in here wants there to be news about another school shooting every week or so.

In Germany I prefer Google News.

Because Apple News was getting lost on its way to Europe.. Announced: 06/2015.. almost 3 Years now.. I highly doubt iOS12 will change that.

I don't need Google, Apple or anyone else to serve me news. BBC, Guardian, New York Times, Times of India, China Daily; all these I can go directly to source and it takes very little time - I mean, just a few minutes.

Just as with Amazon, if Google & Facebook fell into the sea and rotted, I don't think anyone would lose any sleep. The sooner Apple develops all the skills and assets to EXCEED the technology of the others, the better. I don't have the same feelings for Microsoft, so much - they're institutionally inept to a certain degree, but not a BAD company, just missed a lot of boats.

Slightly veered there, but life is short and I wanted to express it. :)

Gonna give it a shot - does it have notifications? I really want an app that shows me notifications for serious worldwide breaking news stories but I haven't found one (or an RSS feed that does the same). CNN and USA Today are filled with political nonsense and non-stories because they make money by driving traffic to their sites.

Does anyone know of anything that will only show you extremely important stories?

I’ll have to say I prefer Google news, since you know, it’s actually available in Canada....like c’mon Apple how hard is it to give us a news app...

Google and Apple are just (online) news stands here. They are not creating any news articles. They don't create news content. They are just publishing and curating news from the same articles you can already read from BBC, Guardian, NYT, LA Times, etc.

The difference is that they are presenting those sources all in one place, a convenience for many people. Do you people not understand what a newsstand is? It simply lets you browse all the different news sources in one place. I don't understand the great fret and animosity towards these apps. They do exactly what they are supposed to do.

Yes, I agree. It only takes a few minutes to be misinformed by the BBC, Guardian, New York Times etc. I look for as many first-hand sources as possible and try to avoid corporate media. Remember who owns it and ask yourself if they have an agenda. Look-up Oscar Calloway 1917. He argued against news companies being ‘bought’ for corporate interests. Also, check out Carl Bernstein’s work on Project Mockingbird.

I guess Apple news because it has Spotlight... which by default is on iOS.

You really think that when you select to read on a story in Google News that isn't tracked?

It's Google, and probably would add to why people may prefer Apple News.

However it IS an iOS app, so hopefully Location Services is "Off" and Google won't by-pass that.

The good old days.

Would really like to try Apple News but it is still not available over here in the Netherlands ... does anybody out here have a clue why it takes this long to roll out this functionality to the rest of the world? (same goes for Apple Pay which still needs to be rolled out over here as well)

I'm not a fan of news in general since so much of it is biased fact-distorting nonsense, from almost any source. I suppose Google News isn't a bad way to indoctrinate oneself, though.
Put on a tin foil hat then.
Come one, there are many good newspapers, clearly on one side or the other, and with a little common sense, you can easily understand what's biased in their news and extract facts. Just read from more sources when you're in doubt about something important.
