Figure I'd start this thread since I'm interested in the upcoming Pixel 10 and 10 Pro and the rumored launch date is in august, not that far away.

Anyone eyeing this phone also? My main concern is, again, the new Tensor chip. Yeah, they say the new 3nm TSMC processor will be more efficient and powerful, but by how much? I'm starting to think that the gains won't be as dramatic and big as we would hope, and it will still lag behind the competition.

Otherwise, I'm reading many interesting rumors about upcoming features, such as the much better video capture and stabilization.

Hopefully Google makes further optimization of the software so battery life can improve with those big batteries they are including lately. Design seems to be the same. I was hoping for a lighter Pixel 10 and 10 Pro.

What are you hoping Google will improve in the 10 series compared to the 9?

First OLED screen without PWM gets my money regardless of OS ha. However, based on Google's latest I/O the new Pixel is going to be HEAVILY influenced by AI so you either need to embrace it or learn how to turn off all of the privacy settings the will inevitably be buried throughout the OS.

Tensor G5 is a big unknown at this point beyond it will be using TSMC 3nm process and ditch Exynos cores. Possibly better GPU as well as modem.

This could be a huge shift for Google. It could be the first somewhat performant chip. I doubt it will be close to QC or Apple but I bet it will be a lot faster and a lot more efficient than any previous Tensor chip. As long as it has a decent performance lift and much better battery and thermals then Tensor will be a big hit.

People complain all the time how terrible the Tensor series has been and while I don't completely disagree you have to give any new endeavor like making your own custom silicon some time.

Apple's a series chips were not the best when the first gen was released. It took Apple some time to get where they are and Google is no different.

I bet by Pixel 12 performance will no longer be an issue for Pixel phones. After a couple gens on TSMC Google should most likely have a much better chip. I doubt Tensor will ever beat top benchmark scores ever because that isn't Googles focus. However, despite that fact it has been noticeable since the first Tensor that it needed a lot of improvements.

If Google would also use Gorilla armor glass and higher pwm frequencies then I would probably but Pixel 11. I think the Pixel 10 will be awesome but I would like a second gen chip from TSMC designed by Google. But if the 10 is really great then it would be a great time for a Pixel!

Does anyone know if they will update or upgrade the camera sensors??

If you’re talking about the M1 I would argue that’s one of the few mass changes in computer hardware that absolutely blew away expectations in its first gen. M2 was meh but M1 was such a huge leap people can use it today and have zero issues.

If the processor is good, this might be THE android phone to get

(I really hope they'll have an awesome processor this time, speaking as someone who plays a lot of games)

No I was talking about the a series chips in the cell phones that led to m series. There were a lot of steps to get where we are.

M series absolutely did blow everything out of the water substantially at the time and had been doing really well to stay ahead of the competition. Love m series chips!!

As far as expectations from the m series leading people to think each successive gen has to be leaps better than the last is certainly true. But that also happens when you release every year a new chip and device to go with it. People expect bigger changes gen to gen when it is now an evolution.

Same here.....i see AI as the next technology revolution that will springboard society. Much like when every household started getting a PC and connecting to the internet.
It’s as profound as the invention of wired electricity and certainly the internet.

But they’ve got the business model all wrong. Electricity and Networking are not products in and of themselves but rather power (literally!) a managerie of appliances and applications. They are a backbone to millions of other great things.

It’s the same with AI. It already powers lots of great apps and features, like the Magic Editor in Google Photos or recording multiple layers in the iPhone voice recorder.

The big Mother Brain is not the end goal: distilling it into agents to power everything else is. OpenAI need licensing of their models to actually make any money at all.

Google tread a dangerous tightrope as the better they make Gemini the less people will use web search (and see its adverts) which would tank their whole company. Sales of the Pixel 9 vs the iPhone 16 would indicate that Mother Brain AI isn’t quite the selling feature they think it is.

He's not referring to the M series of processor chips, but the A19, A18, etc. in the iPhone and some iPads.

The performance isn't a big deal if you don't use the phone for gaming. I use a lot of phones because of my job (I test mobile apps). I have a Pixel 6 Pro and this thing still flies like crazy. I would like to swap my iPhone for a Pixel too but there are too many features I can't sacrifice, like HomeKit, a browser with a proper ad blocker, services I share with my wife etc. I am disappointed that Google isn't ready to built the ecosystem similar to Apple, but well, different business approaches, I think.

Yes. The 9 Pro performs very snappy for someone who primarily texts, surfs the web, reads RSS feeds, listens to podcasts, and such. The battery life could be better though. If they move to SiC batteries or just get much more efficient, I will probably be going for a Fold this year just to treat myself.
