Didn't work me when I tried it moving from a 9 Pro XL to a fold.
Thanks. I ordered her a 9a instead. (Since I am not getting extra Gemini Pro from double-dipping on Pro phones. Keeps some extra money in the bank for a 10-series phone in a couple months.)

I'm thinking of switching from my iPhone 16 Pro Max to the Pixel 9 Pro XL. I'm just bored after years of iPhones, no real change, the poor AI show and the new glass OS is n't appealing. I recently tried the S25U and while it is a really nice device, the double app approach, Samsung vs Google just felt odd. Also, it felt a little too boxy and thick - plus the camera for point and shoot wasn't as good as the iPhone I felt. The Pixel 9 Pro XL looks (and from what I can tell) feels more iPhone, which isn't a bad thing - also, I prefer the OEM feel too and deliveries iPhone like photos. I'm already partly in the Google ecosystem as I use Gmail etc.

A couple of questions:
- How stable are the betas to run on your main device, the recent update and status bar icons seem cool, I prefer this look
- How quickly do you get OS updates (15>16) - I do not like how long it takes Samsung to get the new OS once released having been used to Apple updates
- I've read about issues with overheating, signal issues etc, how true are these?
- What's the battery like in terms of average usage etc

Any other info from phone that have done the same would be appreciated, thanks all.

I’m running the beta and it’s definitely driver worthy no issues on my end. There are a few of us on it and I’ve not heard of issues, It really has been excellent. Pixel phones your first in line for OS updates and monthly updates. No issues on my end with overheating or signal has been the same as my Samsung and iPhone battery wise. It’s been good enough for me. It’s not as good as my OnePlus 13 but on heavy days I just bump charge it I think for average use I think it will be fine. I also don’t play any games on my phone so I don’t know if the heating reports are from those that do play.

  • Pixel gets OS updates on day 1. Betas are very stable and polished. Every other manufacturer will have to take the OS from Google and repackage it, which sometimes takes a few months.
  • Signal issues were with the modem in the 7 & 8 series. The 9 uses a newer modem with no issues.
  • The 9 Pro runs a little warmer than a 9 Pro XL or 9a, but it doesn’t overheat. Different vapor chambers. You should have no issues with a 9 Pro XL.
  • Definitely test the camera if that is a concern. Pixel has a unique camera look that may feel flat or low contrast. It’s a personal preference. I still prefer iPhone for photos.

I'm in the other camp here. I currently have a Pixel 9 pro fold and for no real logical reason the iPhone is calling my name again.

I'm tempted to swap it out for a 16 Pro whilst they are relatively cheap given the 17 is just around the corner.

Resale prices for my fold are pretty shocking though given it's in brand new condition and only a month or so old.

The fold is great and all that but I miss some of the polish and integrations with my other Apple toys.

Wait 2 months for pixel 10 pro

Wait 2 months for pixel 10 pro
I mean... yeah, if you can wait, wait as long as possible. There is always something new in the pipeline. July will give us the Nothing Phone 3 and the Galaxy 7 Flip/Fold. August will bring the Pixel 10-series. And in September you can see what the iPhone 17-series brings to the table. I think OnePlus has said the 13S is not coming to more countries and the Open2 is not expected this year, so they are not reving their products this summer/fall. Of course, phones could be more expensive in the future because of tariffs and supply chain issues created, but that is a problem for Future You.

Its maybe a bit off-topic, but I need some input from you guys.

I am currently switching from my 16 Pro to an Android device and just got the S25 Ultra. Its really solid but after all I think the edges hurt my hand a bit. Since here a useres who used an ultra and Pixel, maybe you can tell me how your battery life and phone speed is in comparison?

I just dusted off my good ol' XL and gave Android 16 QPR2 a spin. So far, I'm liking it. They're doing glass better than Apple right now. I like Apple's idea, but the execution is a little off (too much frost on the glass, hard to read, icons look blurry, etc). It's overall a fast, smooth phone (love the 120hz screen), but the battery life still sucks.

Weird one, but after installing android 16 my pixel 9 pro XL got warm, to be expected, but now when you press between the Google logo and charge point, it emits a squeaking sound {like fun time on a bed} And Google have had it for nearly 2 weeks now... Time to chase them I guess

I knew getting a s25 ultra would work out lol.

video here.

Pixel 9 Pro XL on its way to me via eBay UK 😉

Found out yesterday I'm being made redundant as all UK recruitment is now to be managed solely from the Dublin offices (I work (did) for Meta) - so my 2 week long ownership of the Z Fold 6 has ended as it goes back on Monday/Tuesday next week along with my 15" MBA... 🤨😂

TBH saw it coming a few months back; so it's not a surprise...

But I want a completely separate mobile for my 'non personal' number, which is the one I used for my previous business that I ran up until 3.5 years ago and then used it through working for Meta; as I've set up my own little Recruitment Agency business to see me through the interim until I decide to look for a new perm job (I do not want to go at it again on my own; the last time around, all 14 years of it, was enough) - but for now it'll do

Never had a current Pixel bar the Fold; so looked for a new one on eBay UK and found one today for £595 delivered - sealed/obsidian and 128GB (all that's needed) - Spigen EZFit screen protector and Ringke Magsafe case arriving tomorrow via Amazon UK

I'll get some pics up when I can

Got android 16 on my pixel 9 and can't see any difference from android 15

How many features are still missing?

I know material 3 etc but thought would have the theme pack which was rumoured

As an update, it finally arrived back with me, and they have replaced the back glass, and it creaks like it did before FFS.

edit

they did a full phone replacement again, and this one doesn't sound like sexy time when you type. It also has android 14 on it, and was enrolled in the beta program lol, so def a reused motherboard.

I finally got the beta and I'm really not a fan of the 4g icon. It's a bit naff tbh, otherwise I'm a fan of the new look
