Google Releases Chrome for Mac Beta

Not sure which version of Chrome some of you are using versus mine, but I'm finding it much faster at rendering pages than Safari.

Not sure I like the interface as much as Safari. The tabs being flipped on top of the address bar is a little disorienting to me. Maybe it's just a matter of getting used to it, but I've been bugged by that same issue in the Win version, also.

A little irritated that even though it supposedly imported all of my settings from Safari it conveniently forgot that my Safari home page was not Google...

After using it for a bit. I like Chrome. On Windows it's my main browser but on my Mac i much prefer Safari. It's now my secondary browser though. Can't stand Firefox.

Safari is the fastest:.....

at benchmarks.

Real life browsing experience - my experience - Safari is slow, clunky and troublesome. I spend as much time looking at the damn beach ball as I do looking at actual content.

Not with Chrome.

It checks for updates frequently. Even when it's not running. I'm not a big fan of that action. That said, it is speedy, clean, and hasn't crashed yet. However, I can't give it a serious go until it has a bookmark manager.

it does the same on windows, one of the reason I didn't install it.

its google's way of "keep you updated", I call that big brother and say "thanks, but no thanks"

Google Chrome isn't installing for me. I've tried three different browsers (Safari, Firefox, and Opera) to try to install it and all fail. How did you guys get it to install??

Using Chrome now, it's stable for me, and the only thing I don't like is the ads I'm seeing now that I'm not using Firefox and ad block plus.

Said it before, I'll say it again: With the advent of search engines, bookmarks are to web browsers what TV Guide is to satellite television. Useless and obsolete. If it won't fit across the top of the shortcut bar you don't need it.

I find that Safari 4 is fast when you clean the cache, but at times I feel it gets really choppy and can bog down the entire system performance. Chrome seems to be ultra fast, and seems to interfere less with overall system performance, seems more efficient. Except when you watch Flash on youtube that's when things get a little hot on the CPU. :apple:

O'rly?

Did you even take time to research what you were writing?

EDIT: My own solution to ad-blocking is universal as I block them via the "block sites" feature on my wireless router.
I stand corrected! Well now, this leads to an interesting tension...

Does anyone know a way to edit bookmarks? If you go to tools, "bookmark manager" is greyed out. Not sure if maybe its just disabled in this beta?

I can't see it either either.

I imported bookmarks from Safari and it has a few bookmark toolbar folders, but I can't drag URLs from the address bar into the folders

Why does Command-Click open a new tab but hidden ! why can't they stick with convention and make the new tab come to the top automatically ?

I know it's a beta... but..........

its the mac- centric features that keep me using safari, although i will give chrome a spin for a few days.

in safari i enjoy

in-browser pdf viewing
dictionary
speak options
highlighting a non clickable download url, and having it start downloading by right clicking
cover flow in history
the clean look over all, like not having favicons all over the bookmarks bar
the ability to customize the tool bar.

um how is any of this mac-centric??? all of this is possible in firefox as well (not sure what "speak options" is though)

i wouldnt say its any faster then safari, and quite frankly, i love safari

sorry but your 'love' for safari means jack when chrome is obviously faster. take a look at any benchmark out there.

Can anyone PLEASE help me? Google Chrome refuses to install for me. I really want to try it as everyone here seems to love it. Help please!

I don't know about on my Mac, but I just installed it on my Linux laptop and it is running fantastic. Finally Linux users have an alternative to Firefox for browsing. Can't wait to get home to install it on my Mac and see how it compares against Safari. Plus I want to see if you can play videos at ABC, which you can't do on Safari.

Yeah, but you can't blame us PPC users for sticking with our faithful machines. ;) I'm disappointed there isn't a PPC version too, but that's the cost of progress I suppose.

Oh, don't get me wrong. I have an iMac G4 and G5 in my house, I love those machines. But the fact is technology moves on. I accept that. I also accept that I cannot get much more new software because this is an aged and abandoned platform. Technology is supposed to look forward, not behind.
