Google Reportedly Preparing Android Wear for iPhone and iPad

Smart move

Most people aren't even going to afford an Apple Watch - that puppy going to cost people to miss mortgage payments sadly enough.

A $200 Moto 360 with an iPhone would be nice

Yet another reason to buy an iPhone.

With iPhone you can choose Apple Watch or Moto 360. With Android you can't.

A $200 watch is nice but $349 is so expensive people can't pay ther mortgage?!

Wow so much thought out writing for a small paragraph I posted. Good thing I stopped reading after the first line. Chill.

So much thought out? Not really, I gave a specific example that demolishes your made up world of "if I own Apple everything is just perfect!" because I deal with it on a daily basis right now. Not too much to think about there.

Just remember, zealots from either side of the fence generally make no sense.

Just wondering if Apple Might not approve the app or at least take their sweet time doing so, having it "under review" during the first quarter or two of the Apple Watch release. After all, with them entering the space, they may not want to give competing products an in into the ecosystem?

Could easily imagine this happening.

Competition is great! When it comes to purchasing a smart watch, I will be able to look at all the options rather than be stuck to just one. If Apple wants to win, they will need to make the best product. I can't wait to see where this goes.

Cool. If this works well, I would definitely be interested. I think the round Android watches like the Moto 360 look way better than the Apple watch...

This is great news. I have little to no interest in the Apple Watch, but I have had my eye on the Asus Zenwatch.

And its much cheaper.

So are Apple devices now MORE 'open' than Android devices?

Having an Apple device gives me the option of BOTH the Apple Watch AND Android Wear watches.

While owning an Android, you are stuck in your 'walled garden' with ONLY access to Android Wear watches.

What? Apple 100% has the choice of developing on Android. They just choose not to do it.

So because Apple won't build support for its watch on Android, Apple is somehow more open? Lots of these devices have both Android and iOS integration.

I could easily see it as well and fear of a lawsuit wouldn't stifle this since it would be long down the road since the wheels of the legal system are easily blocked.

That ugly as hell Android watch next to the design of the iPhone is quite striking. Says it all really.

Excellent. The Apple Watch is cool, but does far more than I need it to. I need something with Pebble functionality and LG Urbane looks.

Just a hint .. there is more than one watch on the Android Wear side of things. Considering the design, that watch looks pretty darn similar (shape) to the Apple Watch.

Yeah, but they didn't really have a reason to not allow those at the time. Now they've got Apple Watch coming out...

Yes, and they'd be hit with anti-trust complaints. The app is following the app store rules so there's no reason to prohibit it, unless Apple was afraid that the google products were superior to theirs.

Brand Loyalty? Did you bother to actually read my post? I SAID I wasn't a candidate for an AppleWatch.......but from experience when I've bought competitor's products they weren't 100% compatible.

And what's wrong with brand loyalty? Do you have a problem with that? That's my right isn't it?

There's "brand loyalty" and then there is "absolute blind brand loyalty".
Apple should have done this with the Applewatch from the start and made it compatible with all Bluetooth devices, good for Google for actually understanding that a companion device shouldn't be in a walled garden.

Comments like those are the reason non-apple fans call apple device users iSheep.

The Microsoft Band and Pebble are both compatible with Android. Also, the Apple Watch will not be compatible with Android. So I don't really see your point.

If I have an Apple iPhone, I can choose whatever watch I want (Apple Watch, Pebble, Microsoft Band or Google Wear)...

If I have an Android Phone, my options are limited. The Apple Watch is not compatible with my phone, so I can't get it. I only have 3 so-so options, compared to an iPhone user, which has 4 glorious options.

Why would anyone want to be LIMITED with an Android Phone then? I'd rather choose the phone that works with everything, not one that is LIMITED. (Same goes for iTunes, too - Android phones can't use it either..... man, Android is SOOOO limited)

I don't see many buying extra straps for that pebble. Defeats the purpose of it being a cheaper alternative. I have a few watches but all have one band not like a collection. What happens when they are no longer compatible? It also shows that pebble couldn't make those sensors work themselves and put them into the watch so they are letting other do the work. Let's see how a smart strap will affect the battery life. Time will tell.

I could easily see it as well and fear of a lawsuit wouldn't stifle this since it would be long down the road since the wheels of the legal system are easily blocked.

Also lots of legal protections in Apple's AppStore rules and conditions. They could easily cite one of those "duplicates native functionality" clauses or something...

I'm guessing you have never been a homeowner.

Once the Apple watch has been released, I'll compare each platform; google, apple and pebble and see which one I like best. Competition is always a good thing.

I'll be interested in hearing your findings, but I doubt there'll be any real competition for one thing: Apple's build quality.

That's fair enough, but Apple reserves the right to reject arbitrarily as well on their own store front. Anti-trust wouldn't come into it, the thing Apple would have to lose there is the bad press that would result (if there is such a thing )

Reminds me of a popular saying a few years ago. "The iPhone will not sell well in China. It's too expensive."

I don't think price alone will be a big issue for the watch.
