With an Apple Phone, I can use Google Pay OR Apple Pay.
With an Apple Phone, I can use iTunes OR Amazon Prime.
With an Apple Phone, I can use FaceTime OR Skype.
With an Apple phone, I can use an Apple Watch OR Google Wear
With an Apple phone, I can use Google Maps OR Apple Maps

Go ahead and spin it however you want, but I have more options using an Apple phone than using an Android phone.

You can spin it however you want, that doesn't mean Apple is more open. Do you even know what open means in the world of technology?

No, it's because Goolge doesn't care **** about Android. They just want eye balls. Different philosophy for different company. If you don't know that by now you're just a G-sheep.

how is that anyway linked to what I said

they're changing their code for this reason. I never said boo about it. Good job applying your own bias to my statement and forming your own negative opinions about it.

yes. Google doesn't give a rats behind overall if you are actually useing their devices. That is not their business model. you shouldn't have to explain it to people at this point.

The more people, EVEN APPLE USERS that use google services in any way, the better for google. That is their business model.

it is different than Apple's. no better. No Worse. Just different.

Yes, and they'd be hit with anti-trust complaints.

Or they aren't because it isn't. Apple has defended vertical integration for years. You can bet that their lawyers went over the Watch to have that argument ready before the product was even announced.

Anti trust is about using skeevy methods to build a monopoly, or having one develop naturally, using it in skeevy ways. Particularly when you do it across market lines. The Apple Watch was designed as a companion to the iOS devices not truly a new market. Skeevy in terms of IOS devices would be more like yanking iTunes for Windows, barring all 3rd party softwares and requiring you to have a Mac computer to have an iPhone or iPad. Computers and mobile devices are two different markets. Using massive popularity in the latter to force use in the former would be anti trust hands down. Even more so than using Windows to promote IE ever was

When was the last time you could use an :apple: product with a non-:apple: product? Nothing has changed.

I use :apple: products all the time with non-:apple: products.

My :apple:TV works fine with my Samsung TV.
My :apple: iPhone works fine with Google Maps.
My :apple: iPhone works fine with Bose headphones. The volume up/down/next song/previous song button works fully ONLY with iPhones.
My :apple: MacBook Pro works fine with Linux software, I can run both OS X and Windows on it. I'm not stuck with one OS.

Seems like I can enjoy more with my Apple devices.

I can agree with this. Their an ad company so they just want their services facing as many people as possible.

I don't see many buying extra straps for that pebble. Defeats the purpose of it being a cheaper alternative. I have a few watches but all have one band not like a collection. What happens when they are no longer compatible? It also shows that pebble couldn't make those sensors work themselves and put them into the watch so they are letting other do the work. Let's see how a smart strap will affect the battery life. Time will tell.

I'd get the band that had an HRM on it... or if say Fitbit made one that adds all it's services from the Surge watch to the superior OS of the Pebble. Not holding my breath because Fitbit is as stubborn as Apple... just saying THAT would be the ideal device for me... Essentially a band could be added to the Pebble that brings over some of the better Apple Watch features (HRM, music storage/bluetooth headphone support

I love my iPhone and definitely prefer it compared any other platform, but don't act like it's open when Android is "closed".

Can I change my default email client to Outlook, or my default music player to Spotify? No? Case closed.

If iOS is definitely your prefered option then by definition you're happy with the defaults. So Android's "advantages" seems like a non-issue for you.

I use :apple: products all the time with non-:apple: products.

My :apple:TV works fine with my Samsung TV. Can you mirror your iPhones display to that Samsung TV like any other non apple device seeing as every other OS uses standard DLNA/UPNP/Miracast?
My :apple: iPhone works fine with Google Maps. If you search for an address in Safari or Chrome and click on directions, does it take you to Google Maps or Apple Maps?
My :apple: iPhone works fine with Bose headphones. The volume up/down/next song/previous song button works fully ONLY with iPhones. Any Bose headphones, or do they have to say "compatible with iPhone, iPod"?
My :apple: MacBook Pro works fine with Linux software, I can run both OS X and Windows on it. I'm not stuck with one OS.Can you do this out of the box, or do you need a partitioned HD with software to boot the windows software? You can accomplish the same thing on a windows machine ala hackintosh

Seems like I can enjoy more with my Apple devices.

No one is saying you can't enjoy your devices. Your original argument was that Google was a walled garden and Apple was now more open.

Smart move

Most people aren't even going to afford an Apple Watch - that puppy going to cost people to miss mortgage payments sadly enough.

A $200 Moto 360 with an iPhone would be nice

Those people should really reevaluate their life if a $350 watch is going to cause you to miss a mortgage payment.

Yet another reason to buy an iPhone.

With iPhone you can choose Apple Watch or Moto 360. With Android you can't.

^This.

I personally think the Apple Watch and the Moto 360 are the Best looking smart watches hands down. I always thought it was a no brainer for Google to provide android wear support for iOS as theres just a huge market with iOS it made no sense to not support it.

And its been the sole reason why i wouldnt get a Moto 360 but lets see what support comes with this Android wear ios app...

The company that should be afraid of this possibility, I think, is Pebble. They're already the smartwatch for people with iOS devices that don't want an :apple:Watch.

List please.
Correct me if I am wrong on any of these, I did a search for the name of the app + iTunes and if I didn't see them listed on the first page of search results I included them here

Action Launcher
Cabinet
Falcon Pro
Google Fit
FolderSync
Greenify
Google Keep
Link Bubble
Palabre
Reddit News
Bing Rewards Automator
Snap Camera (note: not the same as the Snap Camera! app as found on iOS)
Talon
Today Calendar
TV Show Favs
Weather Timeline (note: not the same as the weather timeline app as found on iOS)

And while Google Voice/Hangouts is available for iOS, it doesn't allow me to make a call using my Google Voice # from the default iOS phone app like it does on Android.

I own a pebble, and a Martian, I use the pebble more now. When Apple watch gets sold, I will jump to it. Pebble is nothing like Android Wear watches.

Pebble watches are supposed to be fully compatible with Android Wear apps soon if that functionality hasn't already been added. I wish I had known this would be coming several months when I bought my LG G Watch as I would have gone with a Pebble instead. Especially now that Pebble has announced this http://www.androidpolice.com/2015/0...ore-than-simply-hold-the-watch-to-your-wrist/

And for the last time, having more perceived options doesn't mean more open. Linux is the most open (or one of the most open) desktop operating systems out there and it's way more limited in terms of available apps/programs than Windows or OSX.

well this makes me lean towards android wear, because then I can change freely between phones. sounds good to me :)

----------

So are Apple devices now MORE 'open' than Android devices?

Having an Apple device gives me the option of BOTH the Apple Watch AND Android Wear watches.

While owning an Android, you are stuck in your 'walled garden' with ONLY access to Android Wear watches.

with respect to what smartwatch you can use, sure it is more open.

that doesn't mean you can generalize android as a 'walled garden'. if Apple shared the details with how the apple watch communicated with the iphone, I'm sure some dev could port it to android.

Very cool news indeed. With the Apple watch going for $350 for the bottom end model, Android wear has a chance to steal some of it's thunder since their devices usually go for $50-$100 less.

Google should have had this ready at launch. Really dumb business choice. You have an ecosystem that is known for affluent customers, and you wait until those customer's favorite company is about to ship its competitor to your offerings to announce support. Brick.

If I have an Apple iPhone, I can choose whatever watch I want (Apple Watch, Pebble, Microsoft Band or Google Wear)...

If I have an Android Phone, my options are limited. The Apple Watch is not compatible with my phone, so I can't get it. I only have 3 so-so options, compared to an iPhone user, which has 4 glorious options.

Why would anyone want to be LIMITED with an Android Phone then? I'd rather choose the phone that works with everything, not one that is LIMITED. (Same goes for iTunes, too - Android phones can't use it either..... man, Android is SOOOO limited)
You really must be joking

The Apple watch will be more tightly integrated with the phone.... So, I guess you don't really care about that. You do need to have the app running on the phone I'm guessing which is certainly not ideal (there are also restriction to what apps can do in the background on the Iphone).

Exactly. Ignoring the most profitable part of the market wouldn't have been wise.
